If it's not for something specific like 2D gaming then I would just recommend the official controller unless you're looking for something really cheap since they are well and above the quality of any 3rd party one I've tried. If you can buy one of the chrome series which I've seen retail for £29.99 then that would be a great choice.

I picked up an official wired pad for my PC and that works great as a backup for my 360, the cable is really long and doesn't cause any problems at all.
They're cheaper than the wireless controllers anyway but I nabbed one for £12 off eBay. |
