I have nothing against Matt but he shot himself in the foot, it was a mistake to start bitching about the show he won.

I must admit Olly Murs is now starting to annoy me a little because he keeps talking about how he isn't respected like he should be because of coming from the show and fair enough express this, but he has mentioned it a few times in recent months..

Matt has taken the "male winners curse" to an entirely new (subterranean) level. No other winner--male or female--has been outsold by the runner-up of their series and the third place finisher and the fourth place finisher. Rebecca, 1D, and Cher Lloyd have all shifted shedloads compared to Cardle.

He's still done better than Mary Byrne (#5) and Wagner (#6), though. Small favours...

I don't agree at all. That news story has been circulating at different times everywhere but it's essentially all the same news story probably even coming from the same interview. It's also not Olly's fault. It's like when Perrie always gets asked about Zayn in interviews. It's probably the same with Olly. He gets asked this question a lot.

And even if he is saying it a lot. So what? It's absolutely true. The music industry is full of vile snobs like Jake Bugg, Noel and the Brits bigwigs. The Brits denied Leona four awards the year she went big. Unbelievable really.

People liked his voice, and they seemed to like him at first... I'm sure everyone thought that he would be a successfull winner at first.

Weirdly, his behaviour seems to have turned people against him and his voice (look how everyone complains about his falsetto when many people admired it during the X factor).

I think it was a case of his material after the show not being up to the quality of those three, at least in terms of appropriateness to their target audience. His debut single was just bland, and I can only vaguely remember what it sounds like. At the same time What makes you Beautiful is probably only second to Bleeding Love in terms of memorability.

Lets be honest, they had big plans for 1D from the moment they created them for the show.

for someone who supported 1D from the start, it ain't weird...

1D are no doubt a business marketers success, hence they picked up the Brits marketing award.

If you consider Matt only amassed 1 million copies of When We Collide in June 2012 and James managed it with Impossible in under two months, I don't think so.

not defending either X Factor artist - both releases are to do with the show not the artist. Find it difficult if you can assess a true fan base until JA actually releases his own material? Who knows - it may do equally badly.

I do think it is about the music, people loved him singing poppy ballads-mid tempos like JTWYA and FTEISYF, but when he left the show he went back to trying to be a credible indie artist like before the show, people wont have appreciated the change. Its the same with Joe, he changed music styles and lost support until he went back to the same style as XF. The only winners that have done well are ones who stayed the same as they were in the show. LM have stuck to pop,r and B and a wee bit of pop music with rocky edge, with strong harmonies, they are the same as the show. Leona stuck to big ballads on her first album and did well and alex stuck to ballads and uptempos, which she did on the show.

The winner's single is by no means indicative of future success.. look at Little Mix doing well now after having by far the worst performing winner's single ever. Where are Matt Cardle and Leon Jackson now whose winners singles performed much better?

Doesn't have to be Chris who does better than James, Ella and Union J potentially could.

No matter how many copies the winner single has sold, it's irrelevant (I'm sure most of the winners will tell you that). The winner single being popular has more to do with the song and the show itself than whoever the winner is let's be honest (and in James Arthur's case, there's also the charity factor as well no matter how JA fans pretend it doesn't matter at all).

Anyway back on topic, I did quite like Matt on the show, but when he released his own music I just found him very unlikeable for some reason, whilst 1D and Cher have actually grown on me since the show finished.

Matt is trending on You Tube at this precise moment, with an album track - http://www.youtube.comwatch?v=swCHwFwOWtM. Brilliant track and video works well. I believe Leon Jackson has carved out a nice career for himself focusing on production.

James also has gone worldwide and is #4 in the Australian charts. Did 'When We Collide' do any of that? Has any winner's single so far been released globally? Nope. Except Alex's, none!

Did Syco/Columbia release 'When We Collide' outside Ireland and the UK? Perhaps that is why Matt did not have much luck with the track in Australia.

Ok, except you've missed my point entirely. Why do you think Syco never released When We Collide outside the UK?? Why do you think they did with Impossible? Easy, because Impossible was their most successful venture yet, way more than When We Collide! It basically demonstrates that Matt was a failure and James is a success (thus far).

Tired of these Matt vs James debates...

I agree it silly to compare matt and James.. Different shows etc etc
But i do think that the reason the released James's single outside the Uk is because times have moved on ..the UK market is shrinking just look at album sales ..international sucess have become much more important to get a return for the money ..both songs were chosen for both these artists ..i dont think any other x factor winners single has been released outside the uk..but i could be wrong
With James the have been intelligent ..good song released in europe ..where they do watch the x factor youtube gives him a much broader base to work on in the future much better return
Good marketing in my opionion

Even better marketing actually was putting Ella instead of James for the NTAs. That way Britain at least remembers both of them for even a short while. They've done well to give enough publicity to both artists. It's a win win situation for Syco.
