The triplets napping in the coffee house was another... interesting... parenting choice

This isn't a gripe as such, but even though the later seasons weren't as strong, there were some pretty good, and dare I say it, clever, lines that were thrown in that get lost among the mediocrity. For instance, in The One In Barbados (one of my least favourites), when Monica (whose hair has clearly been affected by the humidity at this point) walks over to Rachel and Phoebe to discuss something important, Phoebe says "I'm sorry, are you leaving the Supremes?" I don't know, that to me was excellent.
I loved that little part too

I was wondering if someone can answer this for me, its not a gripe but a couple of queries I have:

I've only ever watched the London episodes on the DVD box set and have never seen them when they air them on TV. During the opening credits of the first London episode when they are getting ready to leave America they show clips from throughout that London episode including when Monica pops her head out from beneath the covers whilst lying next to Chandler. Did they show that clip in the opening titles on its original airing and during the subsequent repeats as that is a big spoiler and would spoil the impact that scene would make to the viewer?

During one of the earlier series they use to show a clip in the opening titles of Joey jumping into Chandler's arms (Shaggy & Scooby Doo style) whilst answering the door to someone in their apartment but I have watched the show so many times and I have never seen that part during any of the main episodes. Usually the opening titles consisted of events that happened in previous episodes but that I cannot recall ever seeing.

It wasn't on the airing here (I had same boxset) but its included after that.

That was season 2, and I think it was the episode where Joey has a stalker from the show who thinks he is really Drake Ramoray. (If I am wrong I am happy to be corrected)

I'm not sure how ivf works, but I do know women that have underwent treatment and they need to wait at least 2 weeks to find out.

She said something about it being really early when she did test so not to get their hopes up but I doubt it was medically accurate. Don't mind being proved wrong though if anyone remembers the timeframe

No worries, although I'm not 100% sure on the second.

It was a video box set I had and came with scripts as well.

Another thing, I'm sure somewhere along the line Chandler makes out he has not had many lovers and has only slept with a couple of women (I may have got the figure wrong) but he has had a few namely the Italian woman who is already married and had other boyfriends, Julia Roberts' character, Kathy, Janice of course, the woman he met at the sleep clinic who kept shouting out in her sleep, the woman he used to make out with back at college that Ross also liked. This is all before he gets with Monica (there may have been more that I forgot)
This was from the "What If..." episodes so the fact that he's actually had more women is irrelevant as those episodes focused on "what if...." scenarios e.g what if Monica was still fat, what if Phoebe was a successful Executive, what if Joey never got fired from DOOL, what if Rachel married Barry, what if Ross was still married to Carol and what if Chandler was unemployed.

There is another one I think it's the one where Monica says he is the best she's ever had he says it's her that makes him good and if she doesn't believe him to call the other women and "it wouldn't take long". Or maybe that was in the "what if" episode as well.

I do think it's interesting how the guys roles play out.
Chandler is a messed up commitmentphobe but he seems to have girlfriends and ridiculously high standards (the Mr Heckles Episode) but he becomes more "lovable losery" as time goes by.
Ross was also the "unlucky in love" type so after Chandler and Monica got together he took on those kind of storylines more and more.
Joey, you would expect to be more of a commitmentphobe than Chandler but his thoughts on relationships are rarely talked about, one or two episodes. In the one with Phoebe being upset because she never had a relationship (wasn't there a puppet guy at one point?) She points out to Joey that
He never had one either and he's thrilled about it. You get the feeling though that Joey would have no problem marrying the right woman and having a rake of kids whereas for the most part that terrified Chandler.
I'm just rambling now.

Back to the gripes

You're right that was the 'What if' episode but in other regular episodes it was implied that he hadn't had many girlfriends. Maybe he meant long term ones.

That's another gripe as Chandler says to Joey when he was trying to think what to buy Kathy for a birthday present: "What did you get (insert girls name) for a birthday present when you were going out?" Joey says: "She never had a birthday while we were going out". Chandler's reply was: "For 3 years?". So yes Joey did have a long term relationship (with a girl whose name I can't remember) but yet in the episode you've mentioned it was said he never had a long term relationship.

Late to the thread too, and don't know if it's a gripe as such, but Carol's wife Susan wasn't mentioned much or seen, to my knowledge (and recollection) during the last few series.

Obviously the actress (Jessica Hecht) left the show, but I always thought that it strange that her character was seemingly wiped out. Especially when the Carol-Susan-Ross storyline was so prevalent in the series.
If I'm right, Susan wasn't seen since The one that could have been (Series 6) and Carol wasn't seen since The one with the truth about London (Series 7).
Ben wasn't seen since Series 8 in The one where Joey dates Rachel, don't recall him being mentioned when Emma was born either.

I saw a picture of Ben the other day all grown up. He's just as ugly as he was then (as is his twin).

Friends has some terrible sub-storylines, almost all involved Joey. The Hand Twin, Talking French and the prosthetic foreskin are three examples. Joey went from being the Italian-American stud who got all the girls to thick as pig crap in all of two series.

There were two (or three) actors which played Ben. Charlie and Jack Allen played the young Ben (series 2 to 5) and Cole Spouse played the older Ben (6 to 8)

And to Lozzer, Ben was mentioned in the season 9 premiere when Ross has to correct Jack about Emma being his first grandchild.

In all fairness, Joey was always seen as the good looking one all the way through the seasons - he always had girlfriends etc.

The sub-storylines are where the writers really experimented with wackier comedy though, and sometimes it worked.

One of my favourites was Phoebe and the fire alarm.

Also, the fact that dippy Erica didn't know she was having twins...erm, don't they do pregnancy scans in America??
She explained when the dr said there were 2 heartbeat s that she thought it was hers and the babys.

That did make me laugh. When she threw it down the garbage chute then afterwards there was a loud bang at the door and a voice said, "Phoebe Buffet?" and she replied, "Fire Alarm?"

I'm pretty sure there would have been more mention of it than that!

In fact, I would not have a baby in Friends world - Erica didn't know she was having twins, nobody knew that Rachel's baby was going to be born breech and they sexed one of the triplets incorrectly! (Chandlers a girl, Chander's a girl!). Their pre-natal care seems crap, lol.

Yes, I know, it's just a TV show

Another gripe which annoys me is how once Phoebe finally met her dad, he was never seen or mentioned again. Surely after all the time Phoebe spent trying to track down her father, he should have appeared more frequently

Amazing thread! Kudos to the OP. This one is quite petty but something I noticed....in season 5 Phoebe teaches Joey guitar with names she made up herself based on her hand movements for each chord, and clearly abhors the use of the correct names. However, in season 2 while engaged in oneupmanship with professional singer Stephanie outside Central Perk, she asks if Stephanie knows all the chords, including A and D minor...
