Ross managed to win over Bruce Wills in the end. Similarly to my gripe about the way Rachel's dad has a go at Ross, Rachel's mum majorly irritates me when she patronisingly tries to move in with Ross and Rachel later on in season 8

Yes of course! Any posts that I put in here are obviously a bit tongue in cheek. They are obviously going to inflict a certain level of creative license on the story, for me, I think this thread is just about pointing out the most ridiculous of them in jest!

He does try to sneak out, but it's all in the same room from where he ends up boarding (so in reality that would be the departure lounge!)

Just watching the episode now on CC and Ross was asking to swap with Chandler as he had picked Monica for secret santa but as he was getting her something for Hanukkah he wanted to swap and get Rachel something instead

So basically Ross wouldn't get Monica a Christmas present now? or any of the other friends for that matter and the same for say Chandler wouldn't buy anything for anyone other then Rachel

But in previous years we've seen or its been mentioned that they each by each other gifts so they would get one present from each friend.

Like I say its not a gripe and I suppose you could envision they've made that pact for this year but still just seemed like an odd thing for the Friends to do.

Well yeah, Secret Santa is to prevent you buying gifts for everyone, you just buy it for the one person. So everyone gets something but you don't run up a big expense.

I think they said at the start of the episode it was because some of them were broke so it was a good idea for that year.
Ross I guess wanted to swap as he already would be getting Monica presents for Hanukkah so instead of buying her two sets of gifts he'd be buying her a Hanukkah gift(s) and a Christmas pres for someone else.

I'd never heard of Hanukkah until that episode, so any mention of it now makes me think of Ross in his armadillo costume!

On that note why did Chandler show up wearing the Santa suit when he knew Ross wanted to wear it himself...Oh Ross and Chandler and their costumed antics - doodee and the pink bunny, 007 and Batman's suits, Easter Bunny's funeral oh the fun of it all.
Its a shame we never got to see the multicolored robes Joey had in mind for the wedding though.

That episode did however create one of Phoebes finest moments:

"Oh my God ... now I've seen EVERYTHING!"

This one is more of an annoyance at Comedy Central.

It really annoys me that in the episode where Monica and Chandler find out they are unlikely to be able to conceive naturally, the show then cuts to the cliffhanger scene of the end titles over the fountain etc.

The original cut, as shown on DVD and E4, then cut to one of the funniest scenes ever when Phoebe was giving Rachel a Scottish massage. "Put your face in the hole lassie!"

Not sure of thishas been answered, but here's something which I don't know whether it was written or was an improv

"Blue Blazer Black". The general feeling is that Perry actually messed up the line and Aniston and Cox responded in that way and the writers left it in, but others believe that either the joke was supposed to be Chandler messing up his line or Aniston's and Cox's response were written beforehand. People in the comments on YouTube seem to be arguing over it too.

I think it was improv. Monica was out of character, it seems more like Aniston, Cox and Perry's responses rather than Rachel, Monica and Chandler's.

Underrated scene The dinner between Ross/Rachel/Paul and Elizabeth when he finds out how many times he has been married. "Oh sorry, you were talking about Emily!"

I've not paid too much attention to that moment previously but it certainly seems like it was improvised. Matthew Perry's face after messing up the line says it all! The "You know what I meant." "No, you messed it up" exchange afterwards is the sort of thing you hear actors teasing each other with on TV blooper shows.

It most likely was improv I would guess

I 100% remember it being said in an interview that it was improv, he genuinely mistakenly said it and they kept the scene in!

It's only having that fact pointed out that I realise it was improvisation. I think previously I'd watched that and just assumed I'd missed an earlier reference to Chandler's inability to tell jokes!

Bruce Willis was a great guest star. He definitely deserved his Emmy award for it.

My only gripes were:

1. Monica got too skinny and bit screechy with almost every line she delivered in the latter seasons.

2. Phoebe didn't get with David. That was a beautiful love story and a wedding in the snow for them would have concluded their story perfectly.

3. When they put Monica and Chandler together they seemed to segregate the Friends into two's and three's so there was less interaction with all six of them.

Saying that though I love it and have the box set next to the telly so can watch them any time without adverts!

Definitely true. A lot of the time, especially after Rachel got pregnant, the group split into 3 2's ; Chandler and Monica, Ross and Rachel, Joey and Phoebe

Or Joey and Rachel and Ross and Phoebe either together or separate
I think it was nice how they addressed in the episode with Phoebes birthday where They were all late except poor loyal Joey. But he did get his dinner for six : D

Also I realized that most of the seasons began with a Rachel/Ross storyline.

1. Ross asks Rachel whether it would be OK if one day he could ask her out.
2. Rachel's jealousy over Ross and Julie.
4. Ross and Rachel make up after the letter, and have a row at the end when the truth is revealed.
5. Ross says Rachel
6. Aftermath of the Vegas wedding, he tells Rachel it is all taken care of when they are still actually married.
7. Ross and Rachel kiss... stealing Monica's thunder
8. Rachel is pregnant with Ross' child
9. Rachel has her baby with Ross
10. Rachel and Joey try to tell Ross that they kissed.

Almost every season begins and ends with a focus of Ross and Rachel in general. Phoebe gets none of these apart from the end of S3 when she finds out who her birth mother actually is.

It's odd that I've watched many episodes of Friends over the years but can barely remember David's appearances other than in the ninth series.
