Just small inconsistencies. Phoebe before telling Rachel that Paolo made a move on her, she says "I never lie". However, she has lied many times throughout the series. But to be fair, it would be difficult to carry on someone being completely honest for 10 years.

And then Joey's intelligence... and Santa.

Now, was it just me or was Joey quite wise in TOW Phoebe Hates PBS. He made some very valid points and he actually made Phoebe look quite thick in his "there are no selfless good deeds" speech. Compare that to the later Joey, it's a HUGE difference. In the same episode...

Phoebe- "When you say the truth about Santa, you mean..."
Joey- "That he doesn't exist"
Phoebe- "Right" and queue Phoebe's shocked face.

Then in TOW Rachels Other Sister, Joey seems pissed off at the fact that he didn't get to meet Santa because he was not there for the Days of Our Lives Thanksgiving parade thing. So it seemed to me that he did believe in Santa here.

But my point to sum up is that Joey was intelligent enough to make Phoebe look stupid in the PBS episode, when we know in general, Phoebe is so much more intelligent.

If you have the boxset unedited DVD you get to see them interacting with some of the pharmacists in that convention. The scene is hilarious, I don't know why they cut it for TV!

Joey not understanding air quotes.

He tells Ross he doesn't know what they mean in S9 (when he wants Ross to punch him for accidentaly proposing to Rachel) but he uses them back in S6 when he's just got the 'Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E' role. Of course it's entirely plausible that he'd picked it up from someone else, but it just struck me when that S9 episode was on the other week.

Mind you it would be nice now to have another series to watch, like SOAP perhaps which i found hilarious too, I think Friends has been on a loop for how many years now on Comedy channel?

Think it was a different convention. Ross' one was about palaeontology, Joey and Rachel sneaked in to a pharmacy one.

Did you also notice Rachel stole the name badge of 'Kate Miller'. Joey briefly dated a Kate Miller in season 2 or 3.

My gripe is regarding Monica's behaviour in TOW Monica's Thunder. OK, we all know that Monica loves being centre of attention, eg. when she gets that promotion in Steaks and Eggplant, and she is boasting, etc... we all know that. She likes it when she succeeds and when she is spoken about positively. Fair.

BUT, in TOW Monica's thunder, she seemed a little out of character. She took it a little overboard, yes, it was her engagement announcement celebration, but Monica ALWAYS was extremely supportive of Ross and Rachel being together, and she wanted them to stay together, and when they split up, she (along with others) were actually devastated. So, IMO, her being so angry at them two hooking up in this episode was out of character. If it was two other characters, I understand, but with Ross and Rachel, I don't. Would have thought she would be "OK, it's my party, but that's great", not bite their heads off and go off in a huff.

Also Rachel really did steal Monica's thunder at her wedding, by telling her that she was pregnant! Surely that could have waited a day instead of Monica having to spend a lot of her dream wedding counselling Rachel.

This isn't really a gripe, just an observation, but it's something I had never noticed until a recent rewatch.

In the first 2/3 of season seven, Matthew Perry's delivery of most of his lines is completely unlike Chandler in all the other seasons, the lines are slow and drawn out and it's like he was trying a new style of talking. Think of lines like when he was dressed as Santa "Your dad never dressed as Santa did he?" or when he got new glasses "You knew I didn't wear glasses right?"

It's throughout most of season 7, by the wedding it's back to his oldself, and then season eight and beyond, but it's just something I had never noticed before.

Throughout season 6 and 7 Matthew Perry was having a lot of problems with an addiction to painkillers. That might account for it.

Agree with this! Also they didn't do anything in front of the group. If Monica let it go then no one would have known and it wouldn't be a big thing. She made it one

Having just watched the episode on Comedy Central, I think that nowadays the storyline with Ross dancing with all those kids would have been a bit inappropriate

Not really, in reality it should be perceived as harmless, but sad state of society that people will look at it 'that way'

Totally random gripe, not even really a gripe, but there is a scene in an early episode where Phoebe is eating a pop tart and staring into space. Ross asks if she is going to finish it and she is so spaced out she doesn't respond and then seconds later offers it to the group, to which Ross replies that he might like it.

Aside from it being fairly random and pointless, would people really offer and accept a half eaten Pop Tart? Surely being so cheap and accessible, would it not be easy for Geller to just get his own than wait on a rancid second hand version?

That's absolutely ridiculous. Based on what exactly? That a man is dancing with kids at a family function? He's not exactly twerking on them and bumping and grinding is he.

They're close friends. You never 'shared a coke' with someone or finished a sandwich or had a bite of something - in fact doesn't Chandler have a bite of Joey's sandwich in another episode? I don't see the big deal.

Did I say it was a big deal? Hell, the whole thread is based upon being silly little things that are generally not a big deal.

All I am merely saying is that something like a box of Pop Tart would be something kicking around the apartment and would take very little effort for Ross to simply get his own.

Chandler does indeed take a bite of Joey's sandwich, but he takes the first bite, not some chewed dog end of the sandwich.

The sandwich analogy leads me to another minor gripe, since Joey was seemingly carrying the sandwich around for what seemed to be a couple of hours or more, surely by the time he offered Chandler a bite it would not have been that pleasant. As I recall it was a hot meatball sub with melted cheese, surely it would have been cold with congealed cheese by the time he offered a bite to C.M. Bing.

One of my big gripes is how judgemental Monica is when she thinks Phoebe is pregnant and tells Rachel "how stupid do you have to be in this day and age to get pregnant?!".

I always put it down to the plot shift where he went from sarcastic loner to a more sensitive guy once he got together with Monica.

It certainly shouldn't be looked at that way as its a funny story, but it would be considered "that way"
