In another similar scene when he is using Charlton Heston's shower because he stinks, Charlton asks him to get out so he can talk to him. Joey puts a towel around him and as he sits down you can clearly see the outline of the trunks he is wearing through the towel.

I don't get why Ross was so happy to tell Phoebe that he didn't get an annulment. Why couldn't Ross just take the occasional joke about divorces?

I just took it to mean that Joey loves all kinds of food, junk food mainly, but he drew the line at candy (wouldn't they call them candy rather than sweets?).

This scene annoys me insofar as Rachel hasn't read the book so she wouldn't understand that quote.

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" hardly gives a plot away, does it? Yet she acts as if he told her the final outcome.

Yes, she might have seen the movie, in which case, why all the fuss? She'd know the plot anyway!

If Cups was a made up game, then how did Ross beat Joey? I assume Joey didn't let Ross win and neither of them knew the rules

In a later episode, Joey shows he is adept at learning rules of a complex game in the episode where he is practicing for an audition for the game show Bamboozled.

So it is slightly feasible that although Chandler was making up the rules as he went along, that Joey memorised these 'rules' and then by coincidence (farfetched, admittedly) Ross got lucky with the hands he was dealt.

1) In the "Manny" episode the Manny asked Ross why he had a problem with sensitive men and Ross said it was because his Dad was a rough, macho type who used to mock Ross for being so sensitive when he was a child. But Ross' dad is a recurring character on the show and is quite obviously not that type of Dad at all but a big, daft, affable dope.

2) Similarly in the one where Joey has a date with Rachel she gets him to reveal that he has always had an awkward, strained relationship with his distant Dad. But, again, we have met Joey's Dad in an early episode and again he is a gentle, dopey fella with whom Joey has a very easygoing, good-natured relationship.

3) In the episode where Phoebe and Monica go into business together Monica is revealed to have major assertiveness issues because she hates displeasing people, and Phoebe has to fight all her battles for her. But actually Monica's main personality trait in the show usually is that she is very socially dominant and always bossing the other Friends around. This is made explicit in the episode where the girls fall out when Phoebe says that she thinks Monica is too harsh and Rachel too much of a pushover. And then again there are plenty of other episodes where Rachel does not act like a pushover at all.

4) The episode about Chandler being emotionally dead and unable to cry. This is a fairly late episode as he is married to Monica. But emotional coldness has not been a noticeable trait in Chandler at all up to that point (as it is for, say, Sheldon in Big Bang). In fact there are plenty of previous episodes where we see Chandler being very emotional, such as the one with the Wedding Ring or any time Joey moves out/into their flatshare. In fact Chandler is just quite a volatile character in general.

It was just a joke (on Chandler's part and the writers') about Chandler and Joey's co-dependent relationship. As if they weren't just flat mates but had some sort of parent/child or husband/wife vibe.

I think this fits in with Ross' character, which often has a very suggestible, childlike side and likes to join in wholeheartedly with whatever lunacy the gang is up to (for example he often goes along with Phoebe's childlike whimsy such her music/the keyboard episode).

Joey obviously came up with some sort of garbled, half-assed version of the rules and Ross the enthusiast just went along with it.

Ross is generally very intolerant of Phoebe's quirky nature (Evolution and the Cat for example)

Similarly Ross refuses to join in when the gang enter the lottery

One I thought of from another thread. It always was a bit annoying how they'd pair up characters that didn't interact much up for the sake of it. An example is Chandler and Rachael with the cheesecake episode. I just remember think WTF at the time lol.

I felt the opposite. I really liked the cheesecake storyline and it made me wish they had actually paired up Rachel and Chandler more often.

She never seemed to like him that much at all

He set her up on dates with colleagues, And he gave her career advice so it wasn't that out of character for them to spend time together

I like the Cheesecake episode *because* Chandler and Rachel didn't have tonnes of screen time just them. It was random though!
Another story they had together was the Joanne episodes

Ross would have been better for helping Chandler with the ring because he knows all about that. Also it would have saved us from that awful story when Joey and Ross try to cut Chandler out

Why weren't Joey and Janine allowed to dance together, even though Ross and Monica were despite being brother and sister?! Also Monica tells Jack and Judy in the one where Ross gets high that Ross no longer works at the musuem. But Ross had a new job by this point so surely he would have told his parents that? And when and why would Jack and Judy have gone into Joey's apartment and walked in on Janine changing? Still that is an underrated moment at the end of the episode

Im assuming coz Janine was a professional dancer the organisers of the show wanted to get the best shots and she looked better with the other guy. Ross and Monica were awful and just tagged along so it was better to keep them together and away from the real dancers. I'm surprised they weren't chucked out tbh
