TOW the Princess Leia Fantasy -

At the beginning of the episode the friends walk into Central Perk to discover other people sitting on the couch. The don't know what to do with themselves and leave. That scene was seemingly completely disconnected to the episode itself, they wore different clothes and Monica seemed perfectly fine and happy, despite being depressed over Richard in the rest of that episode (I know this is horribly nitpicky )

TOW No ones ready -

Chandler and Joey are bickering over who should be sitting in the chair, Chandler goes to get dressed and comes back to demand Joey leaves the chair, Joey does but takes the cushions with him, Chandler says the he has stolen the 'essence' of the chair. Joey goes to get dressed and discovers Chandler and hidden all of his underwear - then Chandler acts as if he stole the underwear as a reaction to Joey stealing the 'essence' of the chair, even though Chandler had already hidden the underwear, before Joey took the cushions.

I don't see why that would have to be connected to anything else. It was just a fun, one-off joke about their dependency

Evidently Ross is already in the dirty video store when Joey turns up to specifically look for Phoebe's films. To try and prevent the others from knowing this, when Joey and Ross return with the videos, Ross starts telling this story that he saw Joey going towards the shop, ran in ahead of him and then pretended he knew he was there all along, as a way to deflect from the truth that Joey caught him in there.

It's just the silly childish voice he uses and the fact that the way he tells it makes him look more guilty of being a weirdo/pervert than if he had said nothing.”

That's the joke! That's where the comedy comes from!

I think they come across as more horrible to British viewers than they would to viewers in the US. In the US they would be seem more as strong, assertive women rather than "horrible"

If you look at other wives and ex-wives in US shows, many of them have a similar sort of cold, humourless, no nonsense attitude towards their men. I therefore think it may be a cultural thing.

(think of The Good Wife, The Wire, The Shield, for example)

I get that. It's more the silly voice that gets me. He uses it a couple of times, another occasion is in a flashback episode where he is telling his parents about his new girlfriend Carol.

Two and a Half Men is the perfect example of this. Judith's attitude towards Alan is even worse than how Carol and Susan treat Ross

That's a good comparison.
I think that Judith, Carol and Susan etc aren't really characters as such they are just plot devices - evil ex wife making the poor down trodden lovable loser miserable.
The same thing happened to Emily once she was done with Ross. She turned into the evil bitch making Ross homeless and so on

Not a gripe but does anyone else love TOW The Football?

It's really unique compared to the other episodes as it's mostly filmed on an outdoor set and there's a couple of musical montages (Let's Get Ready To Rumble) plus the comedy is absolutely spot on. So many subtle little things that are hilarious.

Yes, one of the most underrated episodes. Except for the Dutch girl Joey and Chandler fought over, it's just the main 6 and the rivalry between Ross and Monica is brilliant

I read that the scene was an in-joke as the people sitting on the couch were the show's writers.

Yep, and Ross and Alan are similar in a number of ways

1. Both divorced more than once
2. Both have sons
3. Both are in science based jobs but aren't real doctors
4. Both very cheap characters
5. Both have sibling rivalries (though Ross is the favoured sibling while Charlie is the favoured sibling in Two and a Half Men

Plus the stupid scrapes they get themselves into,Ross and his leather pants/fake tan and Alan running around in his y fronts

Alan does that a few times. Consider Alan to be a cross between Ross and George Costanza, especially with how cheap he is

On a side note, as Friends is repeated to death on CC and it gets fairly good ratings. i'd like to see what the ratings would be if it was on once a week at 9 on a Sunday or even if it was on one of the freeview channels

I've just rewatched the 'Pivot!' episode, and I think it would really be quite easy to get the sofa around that corner (god knows my parents have got furniture through trickier spaces!).

You don't need to pivot the sofa at all, and carrying it up the first flight is counterproductive - just get enough people so you can shift the sofa straight across the first level, then tip it on it's end to carry it straight up the next flight. There's plenty of vertical space!

To be honest, i think sometimes it can look easier than it is. My friend lives in a flat and wanted to get a sofa. We looked at the stairs and corners before we went "sofa shopping" and kept in mind how big the space is. Ended up buying a small 2 seater.... despite it looking like it was easy, we were there for 3 hours with the help of 3 others (so 5 of us) trying to go round the corner , it just kept getting stuck in stupid in between spaces!

I hate the episode where Phoebe thinks that British guy is Monica's soulmate. Phoebe and Monica are so disrespectful to Chandler in that episode

To quote Phoebe 'It's only Chandler' but yes it is ridiculous

I would guess lower, Because people watch it because there are usually a few on. Once a week would mean years worth of episodes, I will occasionally watch a few at once but i wouldn't bother if it was one a week

I was in the same boat when I bought a new sofa. Even though I did countless measurements before buying it and it "should" have fit, no matter what the delvery guys did, we just couldnt get it through my hallway and turn into my living room. I the end, the shop offered to take it apart at the warehouse, redeliver it and then fix it all back together when its in my lounge. Only £50 but worth it. Of course, its stuck there now so if I move it will have to be dismantled again or left lol !

Things have moved on now though. You can easily get flat pack sofas which look and feel as good as any "normal" sofa so no need to go through all that hassle. My friend has one and you would never know.

At least the talc/phone scene slapping the forehead was funny.

Phoebe's behaviour towards Chandler in the latter seasons was, at times, bordering on pure hatred.
