Friends: 10 Plot Holes You Never Noticed

http://www.fame10.com/entertainment/...ok.live.com%2F

10. Rachel Forgets Chandler
9. Judy’s Mom
8. Ross Actually Does Like Ice Cream
7. Joey Knows What Air Quotes Are and Adam’s Apple
6. Chandler Says ‘I Love You’ For The First Time…Twice
5. Their Ages Radically Change
4. Rachel’s Key to Monica’s Apartment
3. Chandler Does Know How To Cry
2. Chandler Knows How to Slip Money
1. Ross Didn’t Lose His Virginity to Carol

To be fair most of us on here have noticed these including Rachel meeting Chandler for the first time on 3 different occasions, their ages changing, Joey knowing what air quotes were and Ross not losing his virginity to Carol like he originally stated

6 isn't a massive inconsistency as the one Where Everyone Finds Out was Monica saying "I love you" back

Somebody even made a comment about it in the comments section along those lines. The "I love you" when Monica was wearing the turkey was said very quickly and then he took it back straight away so he didn't appear to mean it. It was said in a more you're great or you're wonderful kind of way.

The "I love you" during the episode where Phoebe is jokingly trying to seduce him was said more sincerely and from the heart especially as Monica comes out from hiding in the bathroom.

And he never takes it back....Clearly he has realised he does mean it and is now ok with saying it and being heard to say it

One I was thinking about just now is a bit bizarre

But I find it weird that they did the big build up of Chandler and Kathy and almost losing each other as best friends and then a few episodes later Kathy just breaks up with him and he moves on?

Kathy cheats on him with the co-star of her play and I think (even though we don't see it) Chandler breaks up with her

Flicked on CC between the football the other day. The one where Joey just started dating Kathy but was out on a date with Casey.
Joey calls Chandler to tell him to let Kathy know he'd be late because the car broke down. He explains he went to get transmission fluid but was surprised to find out the transmission had fallen out. Why go for the fluid before checking the tranny?

The bigger issue with that plot is that how did that continue on for two blocks without realising it, thinking that ran over a dog, without a transmission? In reality a transmission/gearbox falling out would cause the car to stop almost immediately.

But then this is just one of the things that the Friends scriptwriters created that doesn't really make any sense.

It's the same with Charlie. They obviously realise they want to pair them up with someone more important so have the break-up (and the reason for it) happen very quickly (I.e. In one episode).

I suppose the Chandler and Kathy story was more about Joey And Chandler than Kathy
But yes it seemed a bit silly they went through all of that just to have Kathy and Chandler fight and break up two episodes later.
Same with Charlie and Ross as mentioned and Joey and Janine

Ross and Emily didn't feel quite as rushed.

That was very odd, They moved in and broke up all in one episode. Was the actor cast in something else as it seemed he just had to be suddenly written out and it made no sense

Although now all these others have been mentioned maybe that is just how relationships end in the Friends world

Was going to mention that myself. Phoebe and Gary was the biggest non-event of any relationship that any of the friends were in. Very forgettable, especially the lame reason for their break up

Tag was similarly dull but at least he didn't move unnecessarily fast with Rachel

Another gripe regarding Phoebe & Gary. When Phoebe first started seeing Mike, Ross & Phoebe have a conversation about how Phoebe had never had a long term relationship. Phoebe then says that she's never lived with a bloke but of course she did with Gary.

However as it was so short approximately less than 24 hours as we saw her waking up with him for the first time after moving in that she doesn't class it as living with a boyfriend.

It was easy to forget about Phoebe living with Gary. I would never have thought of that when Ross has that conversation with Mike

I'd also forgotten Phoebe and Gary ever happened

Ross and Emily's engagement was rushed but their breakup was a bit more drawn out by the usual standard of relationships with non friends.
If anything it was painfully dragged out, did Ross actually see Emily in person from that brief fleeting glance at the airport to them finishing the relationship?

No he didn't or it was never mentioned if he did, But that was more due to outside issues than the writers.

Terrible end to that storyline it was a real turning point for the series

Helen Baxendale's pregnancy meant they had to go another direction. Had she not fallen pregnant, I do wonder what would have happened with Ross and Emily. Would she have stayed in the series to the end, or was Ross and Rachel always the endgame?

We may well have missed out on some good storylines had it gone that direction, equally we may have escaped some of the poorer ones.

I think Ross and Emily would have at least lasted until the end of that season together or just getting divorced etc. However Ross and Rachel was always going to be the end game (Yawn) but once the actress was pregnant they did the whole character destruction on her and got her gone asap

Making Ross give up Rachel was used purely to kill off any likeability of the character in the hardcore fans minds so they could just cut her out of the show.

I am not too sure of how true this was -or if this was just speculation but David Schwimmer may have been in contract negotiations during this time. I don't know if the plan would have been for him to go to London to be with Emily and that may have been why they introduced the character Danny(Inappropriate sister relationship) as a possible love interest for Rachel.

I thought they all negotiated contracts as a group? That was a big thing at the time that they didn't let anyone be the 'star' obviously that wasn't the case at the start but certainly was later.

Could be that the group contract thing happened after this and we are both right haha
