That's the one thing I dislike about FRIENDS the most and I usually skip those episodes.

I've just watched all the episodes again and still love it but there are a lot of mistakes.
The thing that always gets me is how incredibly selfish Rachel is - just to name a few: taking the name Emma when she said she wouldn't, stopping Ross on numeral occasions from moving on when she didn't really want him, messing with Joey when she didn't really want him, spoiling Monica's engagement evening and being the centre of attention re the pregnancy thing at her wedding, and travelling to England to interfere in that wedding . Clearly the writers intended much of this - Hugh Lauries character on the plane tells her she is a horrible person- and it is a testament to Jennifer A that she makes her funny and quite likeable. However I never quite warm to her.

I agree about Rachel, she does some awful things yet we root for her.

The difference I suppose is Chandler was advertising and interviewing for flatmates so he'd signed up to live with a stranger so to speak

Yea that is a fair point, Wasn't the flashback where Phoebe moved out set a year before Rachel moved in? So in theory Monica had lived alone for a year so clearly the rent controlled apartment was affordable for her alone etc

Yep! Totally weird.
But by the sounds of it Monica was always more of a friend to Rachel than she was to her so maybe this was the final gellar act of "Rachel will loovve me"

Or maybe it's the mother hen, put down by other women (her mother) role that Monica takes on,
She just let's Rachel walk into her life and "makes" the other friends look after her too

I think that might be my very favourite scene in the show. Gunter's creepy grin just tops Joey 'accidentally' belting Ross in the face. Brilliant!

But on the other hand the whole Joey and Rachel arc was worth it if only for the brilliant "I'M FINE" episode

Actually the I'm fine episode should've been the end of Rachel And Ross together he finally came to terms with it

I'm FIIINE with the Rachel and Joey non-relationship although at the time it was cringey. Even though she spurned his advances to start with I think over time she maybe came to think about the care and support he had given her, that sparked the 'dream' which then turned into real attraction. But then she realised it was simply more the idea than the reality - the reality being that yes, she cared too much about their friendship but also I think on a different level she came to her senses! That wasn't written but that's what I thought.

David Schwimmer is a comedy genius - I realised when I saw him do his first double take looking at a picture of Huey Lewis and the News, AKA Our Friend Tanya, in TOWT Dozen Lasagnas. He's always been my favourite and I cannot believe he doesn't do more comedy. I hated him as Rob Kardashian in that OJ Simpson thing

His facial expressions are what does it for me.

Agreed. Joey and Rachel was a very clunky non relationship but that episode is brilliant, all due to Ross of course.


That's a good point actually. The end of that episode with Ross and Joey where Ross comes to terms with Rachel moving on is a nice moment and would have been an ideal catalyst for them to progress.

But with all their history it wasn't really a surprise to see them get back together.



One gripe I have with Monica, not a continuity error or anything but just annoying, is the way she totally sucks up to Rachel's Mother in the Baby Shower episode.

OK so she made a mistake by not inviting her earlier. She makes her apologies and that's all she needed to do. But she then proceeds to make weird comments trying to suck up to her in an attempt to resolve the issue.

And just when you think she finally stands up for herself when she tells off Rachel's mother after Phoebe's pep talk, she immediately throws all that away by running after her when she leaves trying to apologize for that outburst.

Monica's behaviour is just really weird. All she needed to do was apologize. But I suppose that's how Monica's character was at that point.

I think at one point Monica says "she'll be the daughter she (Rachel's mom) never had".

Aside from the point she actually has three daughters, she says it in front of Rachel too IIRC.

But I think Rachel says it about Judy at one point too though in front of Monica.Can't fully remember.

Monica in the later seasons could be a really annoying character.

In Monica's defence though, Mrs Green was acting like a complete plank. She could have simply accepted the apology and been civil for the sake of keeping the peace, but instead she continued to be prickly towards Monica. Hence why Monica felt the need to keep trying to make amends.

Fair defence but Monica is an irritant in that episode

Watching the finale at the weekend was interesting, the first time I've seen it in years. I stand by it was pretty good, but what were the writers thinking with Monica in that episode? Everybody else got a nice wrap up. Monica - apart from the babies - got to pull apart the foosball table with her bare hands - what was her motivation for that? Why did she enjoy it so much? Smacks of jealousy of Joey and Chandlers friendship, and even if it wasn't was very unpleasant. Even at the end with paying the delivery guy to 'accidentally drop' the big white dog because she didn't like it. Wonder if Courtney Cox was less than thrilled when she first read the script. Yes, Monica could be unpleasant - they all could - but it was a real pity they did that to her for the finale.

Also interesting was how much they were obviously, and genuinely going to miss the show and each other. Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow in particular in the final scene did not appear to be acting.

Think you're reading too much in the foosball, wasn't anything sinister, some people just like ripping something apart. Also she was heavily pregnant so the writers probably couldn't use her as much as they wanted.

I didn't say you were? I was talking about Monica. But looking back I didn't word it correctly.

Woodbine meant that Monica loved ripping things apart with her bare hands as she can be quite aggressive when she wants to.

A minor gripe for me is when Rachel (who is a week overdue at this point) says the reason why she's home early is because her work told her to take her maternity leave there and then.

She was a week overdue, why would she still be at work? Surely her maternity leave would have started weeks before her original due date.
