Me too, I tend to keep well away normally.

Mine meows like crazy as I unlock the door. She then runs around my feet jumping to her hind legs to try to get me to stroke her all the while purring like a mad thing. She generally shadows me around the house all the time I'm in and ends up sleeping in my room even if I leave her asleep downstairs when I go to bed.

My cats poo in my garden, they go where they feel secure and unthreatened - why would they choose to go somewhere else? My Tabitha rarely left my garden.

A dog, however, has deposited some poo on my front path this evening (again) and, when walking my friend's dog, he wees against every passing tree or lamp post and poos in embarrassingly public places. I come across more dog excrement when walking down the road than cat excrement - in fact, I have never known a cat to poo on a public path, they have too much dignity and self respect.

I like dogs, even love them, but I don't really think you can compare dogs and cats because they are completely different.

cats tend not to poo inside the house - normally after being litter trained - but are not necessarily cleaner than dogs. they dont need walking and dont bark (except mad ones) so are slightly less trouble.

when they get all rubby and purry then the claws also tend to come out ! scratch scratch. maybe a 70s cat who got hold of a copy of the joy of sex and passed it on to other cats ....... they just looked at the illustrations without reading the text ........

Why feel the need to say one is better than the other? Both can make great companions. Depending on your circumstances, temperament, upbringing etc you may prefer one to the other. I grew up with cats and that's probably why I prefer them but I've also seen dogs enrich the lives of many people.
