I'm not a great fan but I've come across diluted with vinegar nore that straight from the jar.
I'd rather have mint jelly. |

I've never even heard of putting vinegar in mint sauce, but then I don't usually opt for mint sauce. It just seems...... odd.

You don't. But I think the OP is talking about adding extra vinegar to ready-made mint sauce, as he says that his wife 'just puts the jar out'. It seems odd to add extra vinegar - it's already got enough in it! Unless it's to make the jar last longer - as some downmarket cafes do with their ketchup. Seems a bit tight to me.
I dilute it a little with hot water to make it easier to put on the meat. |

![]() I'm always tempted to put it on new potatoes and peas regardless of whether lamb is on the plate as well. |

Vinegar. My grandma used to make mint salad, which was finely chopped lettuce, cucumber, radish and spring onion, mixed with mint sauce and vinegar. Love it!

Usually add malt vinegar and sugar. Depends on the brand though. They can be very different.

probably old fashioned, but fresh mint with vinegar and sugar.
if its too thick out of a jar, then let it down with vinegar ---- other uses for vinegar. thinly sliced cucumber and onion, marinated in vinegar for a couple of hours. With your bread and butter and pork luncheon meat. |

Yes, out of the jar, into a bowl with some malt vinegar to thin it down a little, with a bit of sugar.

Doesn't anyone make their own mint sauce any more? You could do it in the time it takes faffing about with shop bought stuff. Mint grows like a weed anyway and if you can't grow it, it's available in the supermarket all year round.

Vinegar and sugar is for making the stuff with fresh mint. If you have all that why would you use a jar?
