A Few Questions On Apples, Mainly Which Bits Of Apples Should Not Be Eaten?

I know this may sound like a stupid question but I haven't found any consistent answers on this on search engines and a fair few of the links seem to take it as a joke.

Is it just the core and pips of an apple that should not be eaten or the bits of the apple close to the pips/core as well?

What about ther skin of the applle, ok to eat?

And finally, what would you say are the healthiest apples nutrition wise to eat?

I know people who eat all of the apple. They do the same with peeled onions.

I have known people who ate whole apples and didn't appear to suffer any problems as a result.

Personally I wouldn't eat the core. I do eat the skin though. I thought the skin was supposed to be a particularly healthy part.

Eat the apple, including the skin. Give it a rinse first. Discard the stalk, core and pips. No difference between apples as far as I know nutritionally.

I've read a few links where its mentioned the pips might be poisonous and or contain chemicals that are not good for humans hence why I asked about should we avoid the bits near the pips and core too.

I think the rumours about the pips comes from the fact they contain traces of arsenic - hence the almondy flavour. But it is traces - you'd have to eat shedloads to actually do any harm.

So long as you chew properly you can eat all of the apple, personally I dont eat the stalk, pips or the hard cuticles around the pips.

RE BIB: That's what I have been doing but what do you mean by chew properly? Is there a certain way to chew as well?

I mean chew properly - like your mum used to tell you
Because those bits are tough you don't want to swallow them whole.

Quite often eat the core if the apple is really nice, but I don't eat the stalk though!

Oh and I always peel my apples.

I always twist the stalk off, wash it, cut into 4, cut out core and then eat.

I think it's traces of cyanide that the pips contain, but so minute that they won't harm you. I've eaten apple pips many a time, but then I love almonds.

I eat all of the apple without a problem. And have done so for many years.

I didn't know the pips tasted of almonds. I like almonds. I've going to eat some pips from the fruit bowl at work tomorrow

They contain traces of cyanide not arsenic. I have never detected the bitter almond taste though.

I eat everything apart from the stalk and any brown soggy bits / bruises or maggots.

Everything but the stalk, I eat the whole apple, pips, core the lot.

I'm a terribly fussy apple eater.

I like to peel it carefully so that the skin comes off in one spiral, and then I cut wedges out of the flesh of the apple.
I discard the peel, the core and the pips.

I don't think any part of the apple is harmful though.
