For me Matt was the best, but I think he was given the best choreography - it was the most entertaining for me. I also thought Gareth was very good.

I wondered if I was watching the same routine as the judges when thy marked Matt so highly as although he used the hats he and Brianne didn't throw them about as much as others have in the past.”

The brilliant thing about Matt's routine was the characterisation but that was inevitable from having 3 different styles of music and three different hats that reflected the character of each of those styles. It was a great performance, don't get me wrong, but it was rather made easy for him.

Because it's Jayne and Chris, (mostly Chris), that come up with the routines, this is why I think he wants Matt to win. He doesn't really hide who his favourites are.

Matt was best tonight. I thought his routine was incredibly inventive and fun, really well performed. I loved the characters of the hats and got a fully deserved high score.

Gareth was also really great tonight. I loved how soft and beautiful the routine was, ironic when rugby is such a rough contact sport.

I enjoyed watching Matt and Luke's performances the most.

Not a lot between Matt and Gareth, but I voted Matt....

Luke was the best! I think he might avoid the skate off!
I'm not a fan of his but his performance had the most charisma, shockingly

I preferred Gareth. Liked the routine, great use of the prop and fluid, confident skating.

Yes and so,being objective,I had to give him the vote for best performance, but Beth and Gareth had the the most interesting uses for their props - they did everything short of shoving them where the sun don't shine.

Personally think that all the thought and effort went into Matts routine and the others didn't get as much thought put into them IMO it is Matt that seems to be getting favoured somewhat in terms of choreography etc whereas the rest seem to get thrown together and then the celebs get slated for not meeting the judges expectations whereas Matt gets praise for it when in actuality it is T&D that are responsible for it all.

I thought Matt and Gareth were the best - I voted for Gareth, I thought he edged it by a whisker. I also liked Beth and Dan only not as much this week.

I thought Beth used the prop the best but Matt and Gareth skated the best

I loved it

We were told that each competitor would perform with a prop appropriate to their experience but after tonight's peerformances I was left bemused.

Beth is an artistic gymnast not a rhythmic gymnast so wherein lay her experience with a hoop?
Samia might play a hairdresser in a soap but does she spend most of time in a chair?
Matt and hats! Is that what his acting career is all about?
Gareth is of course familiar with a rugby ball.
Luke is equally at home with a skipping rope ... but ...

Despite Luke's close acquaintance with a skipping rope in boxing training, to replicate this on ice was a challenge and Luke proved he was up to it.

Beth performed with a prop with which she had no previous experience and had to deliver an uninspiring routine choreographed by T&D. Her performance was immaculate - the choreography 'could do better.'

Matt - when I heard that he and Brianne had to incorporate 3 hats into their routine I looked forward to a genuinely challenging performance. Then I realised each segment of his performance featured one hat and I was astounded. What a cop out.

Gareth
- throwing a rugby ball around has been his living, his raison d'être for more than half of his life. What on earth did he bring to the table that tested his skating/performance skills?

Samia - she might be used to sitting on a chair (aren't we all) but that is very different to finding one's footing after being spun around on ice. I thought she did well.

In my opinion Gareth, Luke and Beth had the most difficulty in props.

Gareth may be used to the rugby ball but his partner isn't. She hadn't even held one until the start of their prop skating. One wrong throw and Gareth could quite easily have missed it.

Like's skipping rope could very easily have got tangled, or he could so easily have missed his 'jumps' and again became entangled. He may be a dab hand at it in his usual boxing training, but not on ice..

Beth's hoop, to me was very restricting. She had to keep hold of it, be tumbled in it, dance with it all whilst skating.

Samia was pushed around on the chair whilst she had a firm grip on it, skated for a few seconds on her own then Sylvain put her in to the helicopter move, she was the only one who didn't have to keep hold of their prop throughout the routine.

Matt's routine was ( again in my opinion ) the best of the night.

Gareth or Beth FTW

Actually, I was quite impressed with them doing that. I don't remember anyone else who has had the hoop doing that so I was a bit irritated by Robin's suggestion that it was predictible.”

Another bizarre judge's coment from Robin. Firstly, because its just a comment on T and D's work not Beth's. You can't mark down the student because you think the examiner set an easy question on the paper. It may not be an easy question , and the student has to answer the question set. Secondly, because everyone elses routine was even more predictable. Samia did some different things but had to abandon the chair to do them - otherwise she sat or kneeled very predictably on the chair . Gareth basically passed the ball repeatedly - it was difficult to be more predictable, Luke did 3 sets of skipping, and repeated moves with the rope. Matt just put the hat on his head or did the same moves with different hats for most of his.

I think that both Luke and Samia really upped their game this week and both included more solo skating, which was good

I agree with most of this

The only bit I don't agree with was that Matt's routine was the best of the night. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and thought it was inventive, but I did think that he and Samia had the easiest props, so that took a little away from the routines for me.

I enjoyed all the routines, but I think I'm going to vote for Luke, because he genuinely looked like he was loving it, I was really impressed with the skipping, and I was impressed with how he controlled the skipping rope when he was pulling Jenna around. Basically, I'm voting for Luke because it was enjoyable and impressive!

The other explanation in that is that he can't now write a routine for the better females. The last really good ones would be ones like Danielle's 9-5 routine - which wrote itself once you pick that music, Hayleys Jai Ho which someone external was brought in to choregraph, and Suzanne's Music. There's now a long line of top females led by Jessica, Laura, Chloe, Jorgie and now Beth who have been left to stagnate looking for a great routine after getting a fairly good one that showed their potential.

Its easier with the males because minimalist routines with lots of solo skating around, bare chests, and acting, however bad, few big tricks and little story, now gets both high marks from Robin and Jason and votes - without getting anywhere near the male bests of previous years.
