Does Marco get gays a bad name?
Bibbles
03-01-2005
Correct me if I am wrong but did Louis the dance coach on the Panto -not state that he thought that Marco's general behaviour was the sort of thing that got gays a bad name?
I will stand to be corrected as it was a week ago now.
He may also have said he was the worst sort of gay but I am even less sure of that.(i was drowsy in bed recovering from a broken leg-still am)
If so was he being reasonable?Marco does seem to have adopted some of the worst feminine characteristics as his own.

No he doesn't. Most definitely not.

I reckon that Louis is just jealous because he's an ugly little midget. He gives himself a bad name in my opinion.

Marco gives Italians a bad name..

Marco said himself that he didnt come into the show to represent gays, yes he can be a little camp but so what?
At the end of the day i dont think its fair for people to be that stereotypical.
In big brother theres been 4 gay guys.... Dan, Brian, Josh and marco and it kind shows that gays are all completely different! Yes most of them a little camp but none of them IMO give gays a bad reputation.
And what do you mean by the comment "marco has adopted the worst feminine characteristics"?

But did he really say those things?or did I mishear?

marco does not give aybody a bad name because he does not represent anybody. Im sure that people can see that he is his own person and does not represent an entire group of people.

Just like Jason does not represent scottish people
Just like michelle does not represent geordies
Just like victor does not represent black people
Just like kitten does not represent lesbians

I think Marco gives himself a bad name, through some of his actions - actions which have nothing to do with his being gay. But these things are subjective, and he is very likely extremely proud of himself for the self-same things that I find repellant.

I am sure that if anyone felt one person represented all gay people they are narrow minded enough to have narrow-minded opinions already.

No, the dancing trainer who ripped him to shreds does.

No. I love Marco so much I've decided to turn gay!

who cares really?

I find him irritating and affected, but other people seem to love him for those same qualities.

I'm also interested by what you mean by this:

What exactly are the worst feminine qualities? Please explain.

Hi Bibbles,
Sorry to hear about your leg, what a lousy way to spend Christmas ... I'm pretty sure I heard the dance coach saying something along the lines of Marco giving gay people a bad name. It WAS a while ago so I can't remember how Marco and the others reacted. Like the rest of you, I don't think any of the housemates give a "bad name" to their own sexual, ethnic, whatever group - it bugs me that Marco is seen as a representative of a gay man whereas Spencer, for example, is just a man and not seen as representing straight men. I'm a straight female, does this mean that Jade represents me? AAARGH!!!!!!

I thought the way the dance intructer kept calling Marco "girl" was as bad as anything Marco did.

Why are people being deliberately obtuse about this effeminate jackanapes?

Some of the posters above seem to be dumbfounded at the notion that there might be negative characteristics in a female.

Since this idiot revels in the term "lip gloss bitch" perhaps the people who are puzzled should try looking up a defintion of "bitch" "bitching" "bitchiness" etc.

Whether or not he chooses to represent one section of the community or another is irrelevant.........it is how he is perceived by the viewers of the programme that wwill decide who he represents.

The dance teacher was bang on the money.

Firstly I have not seen any posts where we could conlude FMs are dumbfounded - just respectful queries to the OP to clarify what he/she meant.

The term lip gloss bitches is said in fun - I guess having a sense of humour that matches the group helps understand this, but either way it is not seemingly malicious.

How he is percieved decides who he represents? No - there you are completely wrong - those deciding who he represents would depend on their perceptions - and it is wrong to attribute the behaviour of one individual to all members of a group in this case. It is called prejudice and it is ignorant. The dance teacher was obviously being a small minded as you.

The dance instructor is blatantly trying to build his part, lol!
Only reason he probably said that was because he knew it would get televised.

My opinion, anyway...

He's a lovely camp seal boy, or an annoying git, either way he's a tad more interesting than many of the bb bores, and his sexual preference has nothing to do with it

Yes of course it was and we all saw what fun there was to be had by that happy "group" on "fight night"

Heh heh. This is a trick paragraph isnt it? You ask a question then answer it with a resounding No which you go on to qualify by restating (in your own words) the very assertion which you have just denied !!! Hah Hah very droll.

Anyway the dynamics of mass entertainment are such that participants in this type of show will always be categorised to a greater or lesser extent by the perceptions of the audience. Yes, we all know that they are not exact copies of the groups they appear to represent but it is convenient for both the audience and the producers to place them in some sort of category. It is this very dynamic which fuels most of the debate on this Forum.

Now this may seem small minded to you but it is actually part of the human condition. You have yourself provided an excellent example of this trait by deciding that 2 people you know next to nothing about are small minded and prejudiced.

What arrant hypocrisy !!! Your feet may be firmly placed on the ground but your head seems to reside firmly somewhere else !!!

I think I was thinking of his delight in bitchiness behind peoples backs and also his hiding behind other people when physically threatened.I was also thinking of backstabbing at the time but I think he never did that on thinking back to BB5.
I know not all women or gays are like that but the characteristics which are fairly unworthy are generally considered more feminine than masculine. It was a remark after the main statement and question.

he didnt do that in big brother, yeah he said stuf about jason and ahmed behind their back but then he said the EXACT same thing to their face too so its not backstabbing!
i dont think its fair to say thats a common feminine characteristic!
I mean a prime example is this forum.. on here IMO some of the blokes are a hell of a lot more bitchy than most the females!

MARCO IS GAY ?
Well no one told me!

But seriously...
Marco is Marco: The ones that give gays a bad name is ALL TV companies.

It is they who say that you can't have a gay person on the screen unless:

1. The first words out of his mouth must be "Hi, I'm GAY!"
and
2. He must be so camp that you worked it out for yourself well before he announced "Hi, I'm GAY!"

One poster has said hear that most Gays are "slightly camp"
Well on TV they are but out in the real world there are 10,000 of gay men who act and look and dress exactly the same as straight men - but you are NEVER going to see that sort on TV - Otherwise people may start to see gay men as normal people and we can't have that can we?

My god! Next they will want to get married like normal people as well !
