That's what I think. I have nothing against Samia, she seemed nice, but she was not a good skater and it was frustrating to see her be carried around the ice, hiding her incompetence.”
In fairness to Samia had she spent all of the routine either sitting on, pushing or pulling the chair - she'd have had no opportunity to demonstrate any other skill and would have been heavily criticised and her marks would have reflected the criticism.
She was the architect of her own misfortune but I still think she could have mastered more solo skating had T&D given her routines that slowly built up her confidence.
It was the same last year with Jennifer Ellison . Her lines, flexibility and elegance produced some of the most artistic routines seen on DOI. She didn't need to be told how to place her hands or feet or hold a pose - it was as natural as breathing to her. So why did tale the easy way out and load her routines lifts and tricks? Jen showed as we approached the final stages of the competition that she
could skate. Unfortunately it was too little, too late.
The same applied to Bonnie Langford. She was as light as a feather, incredibly supple with a lifetime's dancing experience - but did she learn to skate? Not during the series - though she proved herself more than capable by continuing her lessons after the programme ended.
Beth is in danger of falling into the same trap - her solo skating is equally as good as Matt and/or Gareth but T&D aren't giving her the opportunity to show it.
imo it's the easy option - as it was with Bonnie, Jen and Samia.
