Looks like they have been tainted as well with horse meat, tho I don;t think I will stop buying them tbh as they are quite nice

Well this is a bit embarrassing for Ikea. Last year they ditched Swedish food brands in favour of their own brand. The reason for this?

"..to give Ikea more control of the food products on offer on Ikea stores in order to guarantee production and quality standards." -thelocal.se

I've always thought that was a load of dogs b*llocks.

I used to go to IKEA to stock up on Kalles Kaviar then they stopped selling it. Never been since.

Oh yes, I completely agree. All about money saving I suspect.

We used to buy Marabou chocolate but now they just have some German made crap.

I've just heard the news. Ikea meatballs are one of my favourite foods and there's no way I'm throwing out the bag in the freezer - they tasted fine to me . Mind you, if my sister (a breeder of horses and campaigner against the live trade in horses for meat) finds out, she'll probably kill me!

I think we can safely assume that traceability in the entire European food industry just doesn't exist in any reliable form and the only way to be sure of what's in our food is to make it entirely from scratch (and even then be good at ensuring that what the butcher sells as beef really is beef!)

I've always found them a bit chewy and can never get the splinters out afterward.

You're crazy. The horse meat thing wouldn't bother me but the potential presensse of dangerous chemicals in the horse meat would! I'd bin the lot.

Quite right! Beef & Horse are supposed to taste roughly the same. I would be happy to eat them as well.
