Dog owners are exercised - 5 miles a day for me

Picking up poo is much less bad than changing a nappy

Trained dogs don't run away

Cats destroy wallpaper, plaster, sofas and anything else that they can get their claws on.

Cats poo in other peoples' gardens - dogs tend not to

Dogs come for a cuddle when asked, play when asked - not always on their terms

Dogs can lead the blind, hear for the deaf, help the disabled - cats can't.

Dogs are being used more and more as medical diagnostic tools because their noses are so sensitive they can smell tumours.

Dogs carry ammunition in battle, tackle criminals and find the lost....

Dogs will lie and pine for their owner until they too die - cats' just move on to the next person who will feed them. Dogs are loyal, cat's just aren't

I can take my dogs for a walk on the beach and it makes my heart sing with joy - not possible with a cat.

I'll stop now but there is lots more..............

The pets forum is getting very childish lately. There are just as many good cat owners as there are good dog owners, and vice versa. I'm a fantastic cat owner, my best friend is a fantastic dog owner.

Everyone just shut up and enjoy your pets, whether they be cats or dogs

Responsible, considerate pet owners are the best IMO whatever species they own.

Lol, if I spend too much more time on this fence, I'll do myself an injury

Cats for me every time, much more intelligent and no need for a licence or a chip though my cats are chipped. I do have a dog and he is great but he is also a silly stupid big animal that needs constant attention.

Each to their own - I actively dislike cats but if that's your thing then fair enough - there are far too many though and I believe that one state in the USA is actually going to start culling feral cats.

Same here, both are loved both are seen as members of the family,
I never get into this "cats are better than dogs, cat owners are better than dog owners" B/S because you can 100% guarantee that if we ALL had both, the very next argument would be "big dogs/cats/owners are better than small... etc etc, some folk just look for reasons to argue,

So true but as a dog owner with a teeny dog under 2lb and another a larger 27lb dog I think I could win the dog catagory

To be fair, most cat owners let their cats out to poo in other people's garden.

Most dog owners pick their dogs poo up after them.

In your experience...near me cats go indoors on trays our catloos or in own garden, dogs go on the pavement or private lawn or driveway, including those on a lead.

Do you live in a high rise flat?

Most people I know with cats let them roam the streets. I don't know of anyone who lets their dog roam the streets.

I'd love a dog but my wife feels sick thinking of dog poo but changes nappies, must be her maternal instinct.I'm not always at home to be able to exercise it.

Well I have done both and dog poo is so much easier to pick up than changing a nappy.

No, I live in a detached. Hence mention of private gardens, drives and lawns. It's not beyond belief that your experiences don't match mine. I didn't question your experience or ask any personal potentially derogatory questions.

Dogs have been known to attack people, cats haven't, that's why cats roam the streets and dogs don't.

also smells a lot less, depending on what you feed. a good dry food can leave a dog nugget with barely any odour at all

none of my dogs have ever knowingly stood in poo then wiped it everywhere, but babies who reach down into their nappies or pottys and... !

i've been attacked by a couple of cats.
i'm not sorry to say as well that i've booted one (not hard, but enough to discourage it) after it went after me first and then went after my elderly dog who was walking away, minding her own business.

I've also had to chase roaming cats off from our garden who were after my guinea pigs, rabbits and my sisters budgies
we invested in a supersoaker as well for this little issue.

my friends guinea pig had a very sore scratch after a roaming cat climbed onto their run and started swiping at them, and we can't be alone in this happening.
