UK Chart is corrupted by radio play
So when a song is aired 47 times a day on capital or banned from Radio 1, it affects the chart. Quote:
"The Hot 100 has never been a purely sales-based chart, incorporating data such as radio airplay since the '50s," managing director Martin Talbot told BBC

I really don't get your point?
the UK top 100 is based on sales alone, the US chart has always been based on airplay and sales and most recently streaming |

The US charts are very, very corrupt and don't reflect public interest in music because radio airplay is dominated by record labels.
UK radio is also dominated by record labels, however it does appear to be to a lesser extent (UK radio generally doesn't seem to have a problem with publicly blacklisting certain artists or songs), but since the UK charts don't take radio airplay into account it makes little effect. Though you could debate heavy airplay generates more sales and therefore corrupt chart positions. |

You got a bit confused there didn't you. But Radio play in the UK does still have an indirect effect on the charts. But it also means that if a song gets promoted through another medium or through word of mouth, it can still chart very well, which I think is better. US radio executives have too much power and it goes to their head. They do actually blacklist people on US radio..For example, they did it to Britney Spears, which is why many of her songs charted very low on the top 100 Billboard for a certain period.

Radio airplay itself isn't counted in the charts. It still had a lot of effect on the charts though, as radio is the main driving force behind sales. We see it all the time, when a song shoots up the charts as soon as Capital FM playlists it.
