Recording Sky Without a Subscription?

I have Sky+HD and sometimes record via the scart onto a combined HardDrive/DVD Recorder so that I can keep some favourites on DVD rather have to buy box-sets etc. If I cancel my Sky subscription I know that the Sky boxes own recording function is disabled.

Will I still be able to record via the Scart as described above?

Short answer.....

Yes, but only the fta/ftv channels.

Yes.

Or you can pay Sky about a tenner a month to keep the record functions alive on the Sky box.

The only issue with recording via the SCART to your DVD recorder is of course that you cannot record anything other than the channel you are watching. If your TV has an aerial connection then you could watch a Freeview channel on that when recording from Sky but other than that there is no way to watch one satellite channel and record a totally different one.

If you want that then you either have to pay Sky to keep the record function or invest in a Freesat recorder which would be a simple plug for plug replacement of the Sky box, pretty much.

Two unsubscribed Sky boxes? Can be picked up for a fiver (or less) all over the place.

One for watching, one for recording.

Thanks for everyone's responses I wasn't expecting them so fast!

I know I only have the 'free' channels when I cancel sky I don't need any subscription channels until September when I want to watch (and record the NFL on Sky Sports, although I will miss a lot of snooker that is on Eurosport 1 & 2.

As for recording one channel and watching another I have 2 HardDrive/DVD Recoders one in the bedroom connected to a standard definition sky box and the other connected to an aerial with inbuilt free view and as already said connected to the Scart on my Sky+HD box, this means even without the Sky+ recording function I can record 2 different channels while watching another no problem
