Madonna - Vogue (MTV VMA's 1990)
A great performance, just a shame it's mimed and the enhanced sound of the fans opening irritates me.
I remember at the time if you didn't have MTV there was just no way of seeing this performance in full.
I recall my Madonna-loving best friend being very excited when they included this on the VHS release of the video for Justify My Love.......or was it The Immaculate Collection?

absolutely fantastic performance and completely unique. I know Beyonce has gone for this look to promote her tour but Madonna was the first and best

It was the final cherry on what was Madonna's most creative year ever imho! 1990 Madonna was so god damn awesome. She really was the most famous woman in the world right here.

Seriously she embraced her QUEENDOM (1989 - 1990 arguably was her highest in critical, commercial, cultural attention ANYONE has come close to! EPIC!) by becoming a literal QUEEN and bringing it into contemporary culture! That performance was a defining moment in po pand performance history! So glad its on the Immaculate Collection DVD to experience <3

I first come across the performance in 2005, since then I must of watched it over a thousand times.
I've gotten more from it over the years and I think I understand it.
The dancers in the performance are the same guys who would 'vogue' in the NY gay night clubs during the late 80's which is were she got the inspiration from, so the song and performance is a tribute to them as well as the film stars that she mentions in the rap. I believe she was at the height of her fame and was and still is referred to as the Queen of pop which is why she chose to dress as one?
