Collecting a urine sample from a female dog

OK the vets have given me a little container - the size used for human samples and I'm supposed to collect a urine sample. I can't see how I can do this without using a larger dish or a funnel or something but then I'm worried about the 'intermediary' container not being sterile.
Has anyone had to do this and how did you do it?
Cheers

I mentioned in your other thread (I didn't read it thoroughly enough to see you were starting a new one).

My older dog had multiple UTIs after her spay.

I used an old plastic take away tray, cut down a bit and sterilised in boiling water for a few minutes.
I took my dog into the garden on a long lead and just pounced when she squatted (gloves might help is you're a bit squeamish!!).
Then you can use a corner to pour the urine into the sample bottle.

The traditional receptical is a clean litter tray if you have one - but baking tray, tupperware tub - anything large enough to not need much of an aim and can be flushed with boiling water. Alternatively - to sterilise you can use Milton Tablets like for baby bottles.

you could construct a fake lamp post out of sponge, and sit back and wait. It will be full of dog wee in no time

I do the same as Muze - sterilised plastic container.

So long as you're good at sneaking up behind you'll be OK

won't really work for a bitch

it's a much easier time getting one form a Dog, i just chased mine round with a kidney dish one day for college

anything you can catch a sample in will be fine, just sterilise with either baby sterilising fluid, or by boiling water beforehand

the sneaking up behind will likely be the most difficult part...

I always find sneaking up behind not too hard, it's the slipping the container under the dog that is more difficult and as soon as they realise they are off to look for a less public place - so good luck OP

I've been practising!
What works for me is keeping her on her lead till she gets to the favourite pee spot. And still with her on the lead, slipping a small baking dish under her while she does it.
Anyone fancy coming round for dinner?

Won't bring my hubby then....bread and butter pudding is his favorite! On second thoughts, perhaps on a day when he's been particularly grumpy I'll send him round!! :
