I hate Politicians i dont want them on the show
If I was officially the project manager, I would just make the decision to have politicians on the show as I think this kind of programme won't work without them. However, as I'm only acting as PM while Jordan isn't here, I don't think it would be fair of me to do that, so we have to reach some sort of consensus on this. What does Eliza think?

I don't think that works AT ALL with what we've already discussed, quite frankly. I think a soaps section would be very odd.

Oh right, I see where you're going with that now. It's a two hour show, how about we divide it into four half-hours? Like this:

Part 1: News and current affairs. One, maybe two news stories are analysed and discussed by a panel, which will usually consist of one politician, one notable person (like a celebrity or someone just involved with whatever is being discussed) and one member of the public.
Part 2: Media (I think that's a more respected term than showbiz.) Intellectual discussion of TV shows, films, books, and the way things are explored within them.
Part 3: Get involved! We hear members of the public's ideas for doing something practical, like money-saving or starting a business or creating recipes - something different each time. Maybe there should be a section for people to send in home videos as well, that could be appealing.
Part 4: A general summary of all the discussions in the rest of the programme, including all of the feedback that has come in from viewers during the show (assuming the show is live.)

And for the whole show, people can be encouraged to get involved and get their voice heard, and the most interesting comments can be discussed in the last half hour/20 minutes of the show! (The sections don't have to be exactly what I've said, that's a general way of how our programme could work though.)

Are you prepared to drop your objections to the politicians? I'd be grateful if you did, because that will make it easier for us to move on - as I'm not PM in an official sense, I don't want to make decisions over anyone's head. If we use politicians and it all goes tits up, you'll be able to say in the boardroom that you objected to that idea.

Apart from the politician thing, I think we're all on board with these ideas (although obviously Jordan can overrule what we've come up with if he so wishes.)

Okay, let's assume that we'll be having politicians, because we need to move on. Emma, I know it's not what you wanted, but we'll back you up in the boardroom if it turns out you were right.

Let's discuss presenters. I think we should have one male and one female presenter. Obviously we can't choose presenters for definite as it depends on their schedules, but I have a couple of suggestions for people to approach. These are both people who are quite respected, good presenters and involved with current affairs programmes on the BBC already.

My suggestion for male presenter is economist, journalist and presenter Evan Davis. He is the presenter of Dragon's Den, and The Bottom Line on Radio 4. He knows a lot about finance and economics - he has written books about them and everything - and he obviously has a lot of experience with presenting.

My suggestion for female presenter is newsreader and TV presenter Ellie Crisell. She used to be the main anchorwoman on Newsround and now she does the 8pm news bulletins on the BBC. Obviously as a newsreader she is involved with current affairs, she has a nice manner about her and is pleasant to watch.

I think these two would work quite well, and would be good bets to approach for our show (although obviously we can't make a decision for definite because it depends on their schedule, their salaries etc - it's just a suggestion for our pitch.) Their Wikipedia articles are below if anyone would like to know more about them:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evan_Davis

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellie_Crisell

Oh and if we were using these, ours would presumably be a BBC programme as the presenters are already employed by the BBC (and I think it should be on the BBC anyway, as I think it would work well there and possibly better than on other channels.)

Maybe Caroline and Olly for the media bit. But I have to agree with Evan Davis and Ellie Criswell. They are both good, well respected presenters.

Yeah, we should have a media presenter - there might be a good bit of footage that takes place outside of the studio. Any suggestions?

You mean you think that we should have two people who are already known for working together?

I think she'd be great for our show. She's bright, she's friendly, she's attractive, but not so attractive that it looks like that's the only reason she's been picked and she's done shows like this in the past.

My only concern with Caroline and Olly is that out of the four people we have - Evan, Ellie, Caroline and Olly - three out of four of them are under the age of 37. I'm worried about having predominantly quite young presenters, as again we need people who will appeal to old people, so it's good to have a mix of ages.

The BBC has often been criticised for ageism in its presenters, particularly with female presenters. In a way I'd sort of like to turn that on its head and have an older woman doing outside-of-studio presenting, but obviously only if we found the right person. We wouldn't want to shove someone in just for the sake of it.
