Lana Del Rey says her forthcoming second album has "moved on to a more spiritual place lyrically".

Quote:
“The American singer, who now lives in the UK, has recently been writing new music in Santa Monica, California, for her new release.

She said: "It's a little more stripped down but still cinematic and dark."

Last week the star, whose real name is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, won the award for best international female at the Brit Awards.

'Slow progress'

Speaking to Newsbeat after her win, the 26-year-old said: "I've been working on it really slowly but I love everything I've done.

"I've been writing in Santa Monica (California) and I know what the record sounds like. Now I just have to finish it.

As soon as I write the words to a song, I can paint exactly what I want the picture to look like

"Musically I've worked with the same three guys."

Lana Del Rey's debut album Born To Die, released in January 2012, was the fifth best-selling album around the world last year, shifting 3.4 million copies.

Frenchman Yoann Lemoine, or Woodkid as he's know on stage, directed Lana Del Rey's Born To Die and Blue Jeans videos and the singer says she already has a vision for one of her new tracks.

"For some reason the videos are still the easiest things that come," she explained.

"As soon as I write the words to a song, I can paint exactly what I want the picture to look like.

"I have a song called Black Beauty and I've already talked to people about making it."”

Born To Die/Paradise were far and away my favourite albums of 2012 and having witnessed the amazing stuff she doesn't even deem worthy of a release I have very high expectations of this album.

I think this is the album that will really make her a main player in the game. I cannot wait.

It'll be interesting to see what she comes up with for this album. I plan to buy Born To Die Paradise Edition at some point.

Interesting. Born To Die was rather dark and Paradise was a bit lighter.

Happy she is still keeping the cinematic vibe.

Born To Die = AMAZING.

Paradise = Listened to it twice and sadly have no feelings of wanting to play it again.

I do love Born to Die, one of my favourite albums of 2012, Paradise less so but I'm still looking forward to this album

Really looking forward to this. She is a fantastic talent and I hope the album continues where BTD left off quality wise

That is quite bizarre...Paradise is a natural extension of Born To Die I would say the the songs on Paradise aren't as "commercial" as BTD but that isn't a bad thing in my eyes.

Anyway, I'm almost orgasming at the prospect of a brand new Lana album!!!!

I thought Born To Die had far too much filler but loved Paradise so am looking forward to hearing the new stuff. She has the potential to be amazing.
I hope she takes a step back from the 'Lolita' type image also as it leaves me a bit uneasy, but hey! just great new music will suffice.

I can't wait for the new album and I am still stunned by the amount+quality of music she has produced in such a short time. Hope it’s another flawless collection of songs!

I do find it interesting how some fans love Born to Die, but aren't so fond of Paradise and vice versa. Personally I love both! But I suppose if you are more into Hip Hop and modern Pop sounds B2D will appeal more, if you like things more stripped back with actual piano and guitar more apparent in the mix (like a rock/indie album) Paradise will be more your thing.

Either way there’s an incredible variety of soundscapes on both of them. I’ll never understand people or critics out there who say all her songs sound the same. They’ve clearly not listened to many of them!

To my mind she does not do a bad song and I wouldn't say any of them are filler-from any of her albums for that matter. To me something as brutal as Gods and Monsters is just as beautiful as the ever outstanding Video Games. The pop styled This is What Makes Us Girls just as stirring as the ever epic Born to Die. Body Electric is quite literally just as electric as more well know tunes like Blue Jeans or National Anthem. Diet Mountain Dew’s hip hop production just as "real" as Ride's driving orchestral beauty.

She's got a solid fanbase now, managed to combine artistic with commercial success and does stunning live shows. Whether they love her or hate her she always generates the headlines. Hell it may be shallow to say it but her winning the Brit award felt like one hell of vindication too after all the B.S. she’s had to take. Lana Del Rey makes some of the most incredible music out there and long may that continue!

In my opinion the whole of Born To Die is amazing! Off To The Races and Born To Die I could listen to on repeat over and over such is my love for them. In the same breath, I still think Paradise is amazing. I'd only heard live versions of Body Electric until that was released and the studio version is one of the best songs of last year for me.

Can't wait for the new album, Born To Die will take some beating though!

I can't wait. She's one of the most promising new artists of the past few years. I still think 'Paradise' deserved to be a full album though. It was THAT good.

She's amazing, hope there's more than paradise edition, which I liked because of her but didn't love and don't listen to as much as born to die

Hmm. I think that at the moment I like Paradise better than Born to Die. It's hard to compare them, though, and I enjoy listening to her live performances on Youtube more than to either of the albums. If the new album is "stripped down", that could be just the sort of thing I'd like.

This makes me so excited, Lana is my favourite artist at the moment and has been for the past year. Ive listened to Born to die on repeat nearly every day i love it so much!, i loved Paradise too! not as much as Born to Die but still loved it! she just has such an amazing talent for writing songs and so many standouts such as Born to Die, Video Games, National Anthem, Radio, Without You, Ride, American and Bel Air i think are just exceptional!!
