So unlike BBUS,this one doesnt have a HOH room atm
All in all a good opener. It's impossible not to compare but I'm glad they have put a few of their own touches in, even if the crowd were mighty annoying. I've liked everything I've seen of Arisa so far and she didn't really disapoint, although if they are having a studio audience I think she needs to remember she's addressing the viewers at home, not the people in the room. It does look like budget may be an issue when it comes to competitions. The HoH twist was a neat way to avoid an opening competition, while the Veto Comp though fine for later in the series (though it didn't work too great on TV) was a bit cheap for the opener. Now going forward the comps don't have to be big budget to work (indeed some of the best US ones are actually the cheaper efforts!), but I think they could have set the benchmark a little higher for the opener. As for the twist - it was a missed opportunity IMO. It lasted less than an hour (and barely a couple of minutes on screen) when really they could have pushed it much further. I'd have used the "Secret HoH" as a twist throughout the week, with their nominations being announced to the house by Big Brother, who wouldn't know who the Secret HoH is. However they'd be a further twist. Instead of the Veto Comp the two nominees and four players chosen by them (or all players except the HoH) would be told whoever can identify the Secret HoH wins the Veto - and then they have two options, should they wish to use the Veto. They can either let the Secret HoH choose the replacement, or they can put the Secret HoH on the block. If nobody correctly identifies the Secret HoH the HoH wins the Veto. (Obviously for this to work the Secret HoH would have to be chosen in a less obvious manner than the phone call). All in all though a good opener - like the theme and look of the show, the house is great and they've found themselves a good host, while it was edited together quite nicely and had a few touches which distinguish it nicely from BBUSA. My only disappointment (and it's slight) is I don't think the live set is as good as it could be - Arisa seems to be stuck in one position in front of the doors throughout. |

The show appears to have the look of BBUK, with BBUSA gameplay. The house seemed to be a little too open planned, it needs a few more odd corners to make it easier for the HG's to plot each others demise. The host seemed to have difficulty standing up straight, leaning forward rather often, too high on heels, or....something?
2 HG's stood out for me; AJ and Peter. Deliberately pitched social games might take them a fair way along. Of the women, Danielle and Jillian seem to want to be particularly pleasant to the men. Use or be used, girls. Topaz gives off a "driven" vibe, I think she might have to work to stay onside with the other women. But the idea that the greatest gameplayer around could still be undone by random crap, like that HoH phone call is simply ridiculous. I'll probably continue to watch the episodes, even if I don't stay up till 2am for the "privilege". |

I enjoyed that.
![]() Arisa calling Gary "Gary Glitter" was rather awkward, I guess they're not aware of him in Canada?

Just watched the premiere. I thought it was good
the house reminds me of our version though as with the stairs and the Diary room. But i think the house is to open plan one thing i like about BBUS is the fact there are corners HM can plot against each other. But you know this is only the 1st season and the 1st episode i think there will be teething problems. Not keen on an of the HG at the moment i thought the twist was rushed i think they should of let it go on a few days longer. |

Not quite sure what to make of that premiere. HoH decided by answering a phonecall? An unfilmable PoV competition? The open plan house that doesn't seem to have much room for scheming? Hmm.

Definitely had some plus points.
Got them in there quick, and no ditzy model wannabee types, probably because they a bit older than BBUKs usual fare. |

The house isn't particularly more open plan than the US version. Although it looks different the diary room, lounge, kitchen/dining and backyard are in virtually the same places relative to each other. The main difference is the bedroom wing, and though a bedroom less than in the US it's worth remembering the first bedroom is completely open to the house in the US house. The US have their spare room used for various things too (gym, sauma, arcade over the years), but Canada has the extra outdoor space too - so that cancels each other out.
Scheming isn't so much about having places to hide - it's about having opportunities to talk, and there is more than enough space in the Canada house for housemates to find themselves alone together to talk game. |
