I wrote to Sainsburys to see if their Swedish meatballs, which I love, have been tested for horsemeat and apparently they were and were found NOT to contain horsemeat.

I think we can all agree that is absolutely amazing!

What's the difference between Swedish meatballs and the regular kind?

I can't quite get my head around buying ready-made meatballs when it's so easy to make your own, to be honest.

Swedish ones are smaller, more seasoned and with onion and stuff. these ones are actually quite processed bit I happen to really like them!

Even if they were found to contain horse meat I wouldn't be too worried, as horse meat is just like any meat, perfectly edible, but I don't eat horse and don't like the idea of eating it.

well they showed some condemned horse on the Channel 4 documentary with abscesses and all sorts, going in for human consumption. put me off, i can tell you

Often on live horse transportations horses lay dead for days with open wounds from being trampled on,having been on the road for several days without food or water, the dead horses are covered in urine and manure and they don't even bother to wash it down when they start cutting it up..So would you like a slice or two?

The usa sends 167,000 horses each year to canada and mexico who then sends to france and belgium, usa horses have never been for human consumption because they use very strong drugs alot of the drugs are band in the EU ..Horse killers don't care whether it's fit for humans or not they only care about the money

90% in one shipment of horses alone showed signs of disease, it's not just horses it's happening with cattle,sheep, pigs it really needs to stop it's cruel and barbaric....

I work for Sainsburys and had all our beef products tested and none of them had horse meat in them.

Despite this, customers are not buying them. This shows how ignorant customers are and think all lasagnes have horse meat in them.

What you are saying is awful but I meant to say horse can be eaten just like pigs, lambs and so on as some people seem to think it can poison them or something like that, just because it's horse and they are not used to seeing a horse as an edible animal.
Yes, if they treat horses in that way, I would be concerned of course (and as Nickelback has said it happens with other species as well) but if they were treated like living beings, with respect and handled safely then I wouldn't have problems.
It's a fraud to sell a burger as being made of beef and it comes out it's made of horse meat instead, people should be angry about that, no doubt, but it's not like horse meat coming from a healthy animal and handled properly, can automatically give you food poisoning or who knows what else.
I wouldn't eat horse meat, if I were aware I am being given horse meat, but I am just trying to say it's not like they have been putting rat meat in beef products, it's still a meat that humans do eat, in other european countries for example (evidently in the UK it's not common at all to eat it).
I repeat what happened with beef products here is in my opinion a fraud; I pay for beef I want beef.

I just don't get why some of you British seem afraid of eating horse meat.
I know for the majority the problem is you don't really know what's in your food and if it's fit for human consumption but I have read about people scandalized about the prospect of eating a horse.

Who said we're afraid of eating horsemeat? I haven't said it, I would love to try horsemeat, I'd just prefer a steak from a well bred horse and not some offcuts from a diseased old racehorse.

Not you in particular, just some people in other threads on here, I could find the thread if you want or in real life, can't say everybody would be scared or wouldn't want to try it, I know I wouldn't.
Well, if you happen to go to Italy, you can find horse steaks for sale in a supermarket, guess they they don't come from diseased animals , they say horse meat is particularly rich in iron, so recommended if you lack that.

Since i was nine,I've loved and cared for horses all my life, it would be unthinkable for me to ever think about eating any horse, Just like a dog or a cat, a horse has a personality, when you call it's name, mine have always coming running to me, horses do bond with their owners....The uk, like Ireland love their Horses they don't see them as something to eat, they are pets....If a supermarket started selling horses i would never step foot in that place ever again!!!....

Eating Horse can be a Health Hazzard... Alot of the medications we give to our Horses, Makes them unfit for Human Consumption anyway...Why do think every Horse owner Has to have a Horse Passport???... It's to stop Diseased and Medicated Horses From entering the Food Chain...No Horse can Be slaughtered without a Passport....In the usa they don't have passports so anything can get in the food chain...In the usa they have some pretty nasty Horses Diseases...One which can can put a human in a coma and have brain damage and there is no Cure for!!!

I don't eat horse, never will, as like you, I see them like I see a cat or a dog. I might have given the wrong impression.
A cow and a lamb, for example, have feelings like a horse too, they suffer, get scared and some have been known to bond with humans but you eat them a lot here... I know of somebody having a goat for a pet!
I wouldn't eat a lamb, it's a baby and I find it cruel to slaughter one as stupid as it may sound.
I do think racehorses are mistreated and pity them... many die while racing, they are given drugs, it is horrible.

It's nice to know you think like me
