Karen Barber has spoken out about her frosty relationship with Dancing on Ice co-star Jason Gardiner.

The duo were reunited on the judging panel this year, despite falling out publicly in 2011, and Barber revealed that the duo have not bonded or grown closer during filming for the current series.

"We don't really do off set because we rehearse the show, then we walk away and we do hair and make-up and come back for the live show," she told This Morning.

"I'm focusing on what's happening in front of me - and it's just that knee jerk reaction to him sometimes! And afterwards you think 'OK' and the next day arrives and we go back into the next week... but we don't have time to socialise with each other, that would be awkward!"

When asked for her comments on Gardiner, she said: "He's an interesting personality, let's say that! He has his funny side, but then he has that side that's very unpredictable and nobody's safe.

"He pushes my button and you either accept his insult or you say, 'No, I'm not having that'."

Barber said that she had tried to be respectful to her co-star, but argued that Gardiner "doesn't shut up" and that when she is speaking "he can't help himself".

Does anybody else find this so contradictory and hypocritical, she claims she is 'respectful' yet why does she sit there looking like she's sucking a lemon every time he speaks, make sly digs about his scores , and what about when she made a point about the presage lift and he only talked over her once. I think she realises that Jason brings the controversy and that she needs to try and get as much attention as people to keep her in the limelight when she is far from faultless. I know Jason and her had the falling out in 2011 but can't the woman just let it go?

OP if you were in Karen's position and someone insulted you to the same degree would you just let it go?

Karen was more than entitled to question Jason on the non lift and yes if she disagrees with his critique then I don't expect her to be sitting there with a huge smile on her face that to me would be more false and hypocritical.

I haven't seen any sly digs about the scores and although I'm not anti Jason persay I have to agree with her questioning some of his marking this year especially of Beth as she has gone each week and done as he has asked and he then decides that its still not sufficient anyway but ignores others doing the same thing i.e IMO Gareth not changing facial expression in a routine and therefore not performing IMO got high marks from him but Beth trying to express and perform got marked down.

Jason doesn't particularly seem to like sportswomen. He didn't treat Kelly Holmes or Sharron Davies well either and I doubt he'd have been any better with Chemmy Alcott if he'd been on the panel last year. I know I'm possibly making assumptions, given that I'm only talking about three people (Kelly, Sharron and Beth) but it does seem to be a bit of a trend with Jason to dislike contestants who are sportswomen.

Totally agree with you I think he has an issue with sportspeople in general but especially sportswomen as you have indicated.

I hate to use Gareth as an example of the bias shown by Jason but he is the one I guess I see it most with as he has done really well although he is not my favourite and I can see his progression . Yes he skated really well on Sunday but IMO he didn't once change his expression in the routine, had his mouth open and kept nodding his head (which Luke was also guilty of) these are all things that Jason has torn into other celebs for over the years yet was completely ignored on Sunday night, Beth on the other hand was told to put more effort into acting and performing we know she can skate and do the tricks etc so she has tried to do that even Ashley was commenting on the fact she was performing more yet Jason still tears into her for it not being enough.

I honestly think if Beth goes out and does a performance worth a 10 Jason will still mark her down purely on the basis that she is a sportswoman, plus I think it really riles him that she isn't reacting to him she is taking his comments without being argumentative and I think he gets off on upsetting the celebs and seeing them lose it like with Luke that is when he seems to think he has won IMO.

He doesn't get that with Beth and I think that is what he is trying to achieve either to make her cry or to make her lose it with him and I hope she doesn't A give him the satisfaction and B goes on to win just to spite him although IMO she does deserve to win anyway.

I wouldn't have assumed anyway that Karen and Jason would have much socialising time anyway as is Jason not commuting back and forth from Madrid anyway so not sure how long he is actually around for each weekend. Personally would love to have seen how Karen and Louie actually worked together on the panel as I think that would actually have been quite funny.

She said she tried to be respectful. Not that she unfailingly is. Neither is Jason. Clearly neither has let it go.

I don't think Kelly Holmes and Sharron Davies are fair comparisons to Beth, in that both of them were fairly rubbish and deserved to go out early. Admittedly some of Jason's most famous offensive comments were made about them, but it's not as if he exclusively reserves rudeness for female sports stars either. AND in the one week Beth gave a truly gorgeous performance, he marked and commented on it accordingly.

So I don't think that we can draw the conclusion that Jason is biased against all sportswomen based on two rather poor performers and one who really isn't doing herself full justice in every routine. I know there are people queueing up to say otherwise about Beth, but performance is a subjective matter and subjectively I'm (slightly horrified to be) on Jason's side on this one.

As for head nodding, that's something that the pros do in routines as well - Brianne, for example, is guilty in practically every fast number she's ever skated. So I imagine it's part of the choreography, although I'd agree it's about as attractive as the headbanger to watch, particularly when performed by those with little sense of timing.

What I don't understand is you say Beth doesn't perform yet Gareth is not actually performing either IMO yet that doesn't seem to be an issue. He did not change expression once during his routine last week and I would have expected some change of expression not one solid expression throughout yet Beth is trying and IMO she really did perform in her charleston number I appreciate her last routine was slightly more limited but there were still moments of performance in it and she gets told she isn't performing enough. Even so I haven't really seen Gareth change expression that much throughout his routines same as Matt keeps getting the style that suits him whereas Beth keeps getting stuff that does not really suit her and is hindering her being able to shine against the boys.

It does seem to be one rule for the others and another for Beth and that is what I have the issue with. Also I do think Jason does have a problem with sportwomen yes he was reasonably nice to Beth one week but even so compared to how he is with the others i.e Matt it was still hardly gushing praise.

I think Jason had a preconcieved idea to dislike Beth before she even skated and I'm sure I read in an interview pre DOI that he was already scathing because she was from the sports background. Yes he is rude to other people over the years but it is particularly sporting stars he is especially venomous towards and especially the female ones.

I know Brianne is guilty of nodding as well and I don't think it is choreographed as such it seems to be a habit some of them have gotten into over the years yes the pros should maybe be reminded about it but technically it is not them that is being judged as such.

BIB I find the head nodding really irritating (sorry ) is it actually part of the choreography? its sooooooooo un-necessary IMO but then again, what do I know lol - I cringe when they do it - its awful

Oh I don't know, Jason does seem to pick up on choreographic bad habits so I guess so can we. The one that used to bug me was all the pointing at each other but that seems to have all but stopped.

I don't think Jason has a problem with sportswomen - but I do think they have a problem with him. Sharron Davies (mentioned above) was dreadful & Kelly Holmes wasn't a lot better, but right from the start they made it pretty clear they didn't like (or expect) to be told as much.

Jason's criticism of Beth is her lack of performance not her has a person, and I find it hard to disagree. Even after she has skated, when standing with Phillip, Jayne & Chris, there is seldom much expression on her face.

Yes I do too and she seems to get the male pros's that are good, strong, confident skaters who can do big lifts but lack the finesse and the ability to interpret some of the slower choreography!
