So- so far opinion on here seems divided about BK's second reign. Some seem generally positive but are keen to point out the flaws are not gone (Mr Woody Sir) others think BK fans are blind and others are really enjoying the show. So what is everyone's opinion on what we have seen so far and what we know is coming up?

Iv liked the character interaction, leanness been used which is great as I think she's brilliant, johnpaul has slipped right back in place which is nice, as much as I loved Claire.. not sure about her comeback if they needed a 'villain' use Cindy she's been well overdue a meaty storyline. Mitzeees exit was awful I liked the fact she finally got riley in the form of his child, but it was to rushed and didn't do the character justice - as for her selling the pub.. as if she would do that to her best friend and her family. she wouldn't have dreamed to have done something like that when her family was so torn apart she wouldn't have destroyed a different family's life. Esthers transplant storyline has vanished haven't seen hardly anything of the recovery which is a shame. putting doug and johnpaul together is awful as well. why just because there both gay why cant they just be friends and introduce a new person for love interest's. Mercis breakdown was rushed over.. liberty is still alive.. now jaquie, Cheryl and Brendan are leaving

I do like
nancy and Darren (please dont make then cheat or split up)
Esthers attempted suicide (very sad)
looking forward to new family with gillian Taylforth)

I am really sad about Mitzeee, Brendan , Jacqui and cheryl all going though, but thats not really BK fault.

i think some characters are being handled better than they were - like leanne for example - and there seems to be more of a gel and interaction between characters again for the most part.....but i have some major issues with the storylining. mainly the horrid repetitiveness. far too often it feels like we've been watching the same scene all week. mitzeee's exit was criminally bad for that big a character, jacqui could potentially end up going the same way, and elements of brendan's exit have that same stupidity and repetitiveness to it aswell (namely walker/kevin/maxine, with walker being the biggest offender). i like the blakes but hate the savages, and mentally swicth off when they're onscreen. same for sinead and diane. and i don't care about the new characters so far, nor do i see me having much time to give to a set of male mcqueens when i don't particularly like the bunch we've already got.

overall, i'm going to judge how he's doing based on how well he handles the exits of these 4 major characters. he's already fecked up with mitzeee, so that's a point against him. if he does with brendan, i'll probably hate him.

Mitzeee's exit was too rushed, and she wouldn't sell the pub and throw her best friend & family out! I really don't think Texas should be killed off as a twist in this whole Will storyline, which probably only about 5-10% of the viewers enjoy. Throwing Doug & John Paul together just because they're both gay isn't too good either. Really dislike Walker & Kevin's useless updates on Brendan as well.
With all of these characters leaving like Cheryl, Jacqui & Texas, as well as Mitzeee I hope they don't get rid of my other favourites. Trudy being introduced and involved with Jacqui's exit is also a big mistake.
Apart from this, I am quite liking Hollyoaks!

These past two weeks I've really had to force myself to watch hollyoaks which is really unlike me. For me personally it has really lost something.

I should be loving the walker/Brendan storyline but I'm really not, it's boring and repetitive and I'm worried his exit will be ruined like they ruined Mitzeee's.
I can't stand Trudy and I'm gutte she is part of Jacquies exit as I don't if I can force myself to watch and if she is a taster of characters to come it will be awful, I really am not looking forward to Gillian Taleforth (??) and her 5 sons. I just imagine a McQueen/savage update and they're bad enough at the moment.

I know it's still relatively early days but I am very underwhelmed

He ruined Mitzeee's exit and he's completely dragging this Walker thing out to the point of absolute boredom.

I'm glad Brendan's leaving, even though I've never loved a soap character more. I dread to think what BK would do with him in the long run. He'd probably end up some fluffy homebody.

ETA: Don't even get me started on Will. Just don't.

I like Maxine, I think she is a good introduction to the show, however, i do think she worked better and was funnier when Mitzeee was there (that might change though, as it's early days yet )
I like that Theresa is being used more, however, I think the actress is quite capeable of a lot more than she is given and really want her to have a proper storyline rather than just the stupid boyfriend-girlfriend things that seem to go round in circles in soaps.
Love Phoebe, want her to confide in another member of the McQueen clan about her past now
Spoiler
Maybe Theresa!? I think that that could make quite a good storyline actually, IF done correctly.
Also love Sinead, hope they play her right over the next couple of months, genuinely think she can be redeemed, just hope they find a different way to do it than the 'I'm so sorry' infront of everybody else route.

Not so keen on the whole Brendan/Ste/Doug/Walker/Kevin thing or the Cheryl/Nate storyline though.

Agree with all this especially the BIB - which we've already seen to some extent, as Brendan is a very watered-down version of the character he used to be. So, I'll miss him like crazy when he leaves, but at the same time I'll be relieved that he'll be gone before any more damage can be done.

I'm not too impressed with BK's work so far. It's the opposite of Emma Smithwick's style - she used to have non-SLs that were sped through in a couple of episodes, and BK has non-SLs that go around in circles for weeks on end. Neither style is particularly entertaining to watch, imo.

BK also seems to be obsessed with getting rid of all the new characters who've been introduced since his last run, and thinks that turning the clock back and introducing more 'hunks' is the answer to everything. Nothing happening that makes me think it's worth staying tuned for

This last week has been tedious, as the Walker stuff started too soon and is being dragged out, but other than that i'm enjoying Hollyoaks at the moment. It actually feels like Hollyoaks again. I had to stop watching for a while in 2012 as it became so boring and focused on the sixth formers, but this year I've not missed an episode so far.

Overall, I am not well pleased with what BK has done to the characters. The only good character SLs were basically set up for him before he came and there was only one route to follow. Then there are those whose path was chosen but they have been changed and spoilt. The new characters and pending new characters, hold no interest for me.

I had high hopes tbh. Now, I don't know whether I care if I watch it at all. I keep tuning in in the hope that it will get better. But every night I am disappointed.

I was hopeful when Bryan Kirkwood came back to Hollyoaks, the prodigal son... the one everyone praised and loved. The man who put Hollyoaks on the map.

Yet, I've been surprisingly underwhelmed at the poor storylines and the amount of poor character he's put at the forefront. The only decent character he's brought in since returning (apart from John Paul) is Jim McGinn a man we rarely see. Nate is simply a boring old plot devise, which is something Kirkwood loves but something what a lot of viewers like myself hate. Kevin is just awful and I'm struggling to like Maxine, I loved her with Mitzeee but I'm finding her really unlikeable since Mitzeee left. What about Patrick and Siena? Promising but we haven't seen nearly enough of them yet to properly judge for ourselves.

Don't get me wrong though, he's done one or two good things along the way; Doug has once again become one of my favourites.. I'm hoping for some big storylines from him in 2013. I'm also finding Leanne funny... which I never though I would do and I've surprised myself in realising I really want her to stay in the show. He's also axed Rob, which was a very good deccisson. I'm liking the interaction between characters like Cindy and Dianne and Seamus and Darren.. something which I felt was missing under the Smithwick era.

Talking of Seamus, what exactly is the point of him? I like him, I know I shouldn't but I do. The only thing is though ever since Brendan came out to him he's done bugger all... which is a real waste as Fintan is a fantastic actor. He's also ruined Walker.

We'll just how to see how it goes... but I'm very much 50/50 a the moment...

I initially came to Hollyoaks during BK's first era - after being a casual viewer for a couple of months The Dog fire got me hooked. Having recently watched some 2006-2008 episodes it reminded me why I enjoyed it so much at the time.

I know Lucy Allen got a lot of stick for her year in charge, hence Marquess's decision to almost reinvent the show, but I never disliked her as much as I did the subsequent year. I think now Kirkwood is trying to recreate the same kind of dynamic that he originally developed for the show and personally I'm quite enjoying it at the moment. The dynamics of the village feel less forced to me and I'm enjoying the character interactions and the little nods to the past.

Having watched the last week it felt much more like Hollyoaks as I remember it than it has in a long time and I'm actually looking forward to the next few months. I'm not exactly sure how long we've been seeing BK's work for now, but it does feel like he's building groundwork for future stories by rebuilding a bit of community in the village first as opposed to jumping in with a big sensationalist story. I'd really like him to do an interview really so we could have some idea of what we can expect long term.
