Too much hype on Beth

I don't understand how everyone is loving Beth on DOI. She is so dull and never puts personality into her performances. Gareth on the underhand is really into it and works his socks off every week, the final two should be Matt Vs Gareth, anyone else agree?

I think some of the fascination with some people is that she is an Olympian. I'd never heard of her before DOI, and still couldn't tell you what sport she took part in/won or whatever.

Others just like her skating. I do too; I think her skating is pretty good, but like you I don't see any personality in her performances. There have been occasions when she has tried, but there's more to performing than making the odd "face" and nodding!

I hope she makes the final, because I think she is a better skater than Luke, but agree - Matt & Gareth as final 2.

Yeah right she has pretty much been ignored throughout the series so hardly hyping her up just because she has finally got some decent coverage in the papers. The boys have had pretty much most of the coverage and been focused on the most on the show itself.

Plus Gareth IMO does not perform one facial expression with an open mouth and nodding his head throughout the routne last week is not a performance. Yes he skates well but honestly not seeing any performance there.

Do you honestly think Beth is not actually working her socks off either? I think you will find she is working equally as hard as Gareth is.

Personally don't think either of the boys are anywhere near as good as some of those in previous years but due to the judges hyping them up it seems that people are being led to believe they are the greatest ever. Matts routine for example was nowhere near deserving of the 9.0s it got. He did not actually do anything that complex with the hats while moving and it was actualy Brianne doing most of the work. Gareths well I said above. Fair enough this week was not perhaps her best but she has certainly upped her game and is trying to perform and do all the judges have asked of her and think Jason was too harsh. Again it is not Beth that is responsible for the choreo so why blame her she performed what she was given brilliantly you want to moan about dull routines then moan about T&D and their lack of imaginative choreo.

Plus I'm sick of it being a male winner the girls seem to get short shrift on the show these days and it would be nice to see one finally take the trophy again and I think Beth is more than deserving to be the winner.

I can just about understand not knowing who she was before DOI, but how can you have missed the constant references to her being a gymnast? It's mentioned quite a lot, especially as she is able to do hand-stands etc with ease. They have also made a point of saying that her gymnastics game face, is the opposite to what is being asked of her now.

I actually think that because she does hand-stands and gets into position with such ease, it gives a bit of a false impression as to how hard it is. When previous contestants have incorporated much lesser gymnastics moves into their routines, much has been made of them practising and pulling it off. Beth just does it.

IMO, the final should be Beth, Gareth and Matt. Right now I'd like Beth to be one of the final two, not least because I think a male and female celeb provides good contrast and keeps it more interesting, although Gareth and Matt are already pretty different, so I'm not that fussed.

Really don't see the fascination with Gareth, last week he had his mouth open for most of the routine and his expression never changed, hardly what I'd call performing, and sick of Matt he's way too arrogant, Luke I find a bit boring to watch. Technically Beth is the best skater left and what she sometimes lacks in performance she more than makes up for with the rest of the routines.

Hard work is admirable and undoubtedly in rugby his effort and determination paid off. Unfortunately when it comes to the poetry and elegance required of an ice dancer there's been something missing.

Much as his supporters might proclaim his ability to portray grace and finesse - I'm reminded of the phrase:

Quote:
“If wishes were horses beggars would ride.”

As for Matt - he leaves me cold. Where is this wow factor that others see in him?

Beth does need to improve her performance skills - but technically she leaves the men standing.

I'd like a Gareth v Beth final

personally I think Matt is over hyped on the show .. just because he can skate with speed it doesn't mean it's good or pretty

IMO his skating is erratic and sloppy and his hunched/squat posture and his odd stance where his legs are wide apart makes his skating unattractive to me

Gareth's not great on the performance side but his skating is cleaner and more graceful than Matt's

Beth needs to show more personality but she's a good skater let down by her choreography

Beth is struggling to show enough personality to please Jason and Ashley but that's in part due to the poor routines she's being given. I'm sure if she had something to really inspire her it would help. But I don't find her boring in the least when she's allowed to show what she can do. I do like Gareth. Matt is a good skater, he seems to be getting the best choreography! so that certainly helps him but I agree about his posture, he is often hunched.

I don't think Beth has been overhyped in the slightest , she's still there as she's proven to be the cleanest skater with the least mistakes . I agree that her routines have been trick heavy but that's not her fault and the fact that she performs the tricks so easily should surely be working in her favour . I think that she's suffering from Louis Smith SCD syndrome where the perception seems to be that as a gymast she should be miles better so she's marked down automatically . If she were given the scores that she deserved then she would be a shoo in for the final .

I think Beth's very good, and certainly a worthy finalist - but I personally much prefer both Gareth and Matt. I hate when people say that she is undoubtedly the best of them all as if it's fact, when that's just their opinion!

NOT just an opinion in my case but also based on the opinions of many of the professional skaters I have as friends on Facebook some of them are also coaches so I kinda think they may just know what they're talking about.

If Beth makes the last two then she will be out of the hands of T&D and Dan will be responsible for the choreography.

I look forward to that.

Beth is a fantastic skater, perhaps the best female technically for a long time, but not quite as good as a performer. Would like her to beat Matt and Gareth, who are good, but nothing special.

I agree with that too!

I'd like to see Matt and Beth as the final two. I think Matt is much better than Gareth although he (Gareth) has improved a lot.

I don't find Beth over-hyped. I think she's easily the best technical skater left, whereas Matt is the better performer - but that's just my opinion!

Totally disagree and will say it was a completely unnecessary comment and Matt is the one being majorly overhyped
