Apparantly Gareth has been pulled out of the flying by the medics as he's still being sick. He'll be doing his save me skate instead - I assume if he ends up in the skate off he'll just have to repeat it.

And how is that going to be fair on the others?
At this late stage if you can't do the required element then tough he should be out, why should be be given advantage over the rest by escaping flying, they could of all pulled the 'I can't do it incase I puke' card
Totally unfair IMO

I agree; the 'flying' is the required element, as it were. If he can't do it then tough; he should have been allowed to do one routine only and finished bottom of the leaderboard if necessary.

Also, he's had weeks to learn the skate off routine - the others have only had a week of flying.

The medics have pulled me out of flying for safety reasons.I'm gutted but can't take the risk.Hope I can impress with another skate instead.

I like Gareth but he now gets 2 chances at showing his skating whilst the others have to show a new skill that they might struggle with

It's not Gareth who made the decision in his defence - he tweeted that he was gutted. It was the medics - I guess they do have a duty to care & am not sure that I'd want to be sat in the audience with someone puking from 20ft above.

Sillier both ways, because the save me skates recently have been poor early week routines with no additions for increasing ability. Either he does something thats only worth 7 if done perfectly - or he's had time to upgrade his skate off skate that no one else will have had if they are in a skate off with him.

All that would do is feed sympathy votes. Just hope they learn from this & don't bother with it again - as many of us have said it has naff all to do with flying.

Fair enough but the producers should tell him he can only do one routine. I know it's difficult because it's not really Gareth's fault but it's definitely not the others fault and they're going to be judged on flying (which I can't see either Matt or Luke being great at) while Gareth will be able to stay firmly on the ice.

Should they now say that nobody will do the flying to create a level playing field? Probably not, otherwise all the hype of the flying will be lost.

Possibly, though again Luke would have a new skate off routine to learn this week whereas Beth, Gareth and Matt will have had longer to learn their routines.

It's a bit of a mess regardless - not one that is Gareth's fault though.

#DOI fans - Gareth Thomas is NOT doing routine on high wires after being sick today. He'll do 'save me' routine instead.

I'd rather see someone skating than some bizarre flying trick.

That line has turned up in the VTs every year too - how did they distinguish him from everyone else who has had the same problem? And if they started flying training a couple of weeks ago and he's got a complete block on it why didn't that turn up as an issue earlier?

That just won't be fair to whoever he is in the bottom two with as they won't send him home.

So we will have another ridiculous situation where someone who has done what was required goes home and someone who didn't stays.

If it's just motion sickness then he can take medication to dull the issue.

I am sure Luke is gong home regardless as was always going to be the case.

He has been taking some for the last 2 weeks since they started training with the harness.

He may gain a sympathy vote if people are unimpressed at Gareth getting a 'pass' while he's forced into something he might not be good at.

Hes a lovely guy and puts everything in to it, so leave him alone. I'll bet his huge physic would be a problem with that harness so not surprised he's out.

Hes very lucky to be in the Semi final anyway. Luke that is.

Yes he may. I can't help but think they should have given him something to prevent him being sick, there are such medications but just how effective they are I don't know.

Luke also suffers from motion sickness and heights yet he wasn't withdrawn. Not that this will matter to the casual viewer has that hasn't really been promoted - just mentioned in passing.

yes there are medications, but he's been on them for two weeks and they haven't helped - in fact, as they said in the VT earlier, its gotten much worse. Yes, Luke suffered as well, but he was able to do the routine - Gareth almost passed out once already and that was without being on the harness. Its not his fault, and its not by fault of him not trying or putting enough work in - he shouldn't be penalised for it.

Please no flying next year!
