I doubt they are told twists & turns of every week when they sign contracts. I mean Colin a pro didn't know he was supposed to choreograph Bolero if he got to the final

As for the he milking it, playing on it. people take note real medics pulled him from the show therefore shows us something is really wrong with him.

I think they should have put everyone through iniially & if Gareth was well enough to skate next week then fine but if not then we have 3 finalists anyway.

I have no doubt that Gareth has an agent whose job it is to scrutinise every contract he signs for the dotting of i's and crossing of t's before he puts pen to paper.

Whether Gareth knew he would make the semi finals is immaterial - it was part of the commitment and he defaulted on the agreement.

I've no doubt that his constant sickness caused much discomfort and dehydration - but I'm equally sure that with the end of routines liable to precipitate sickness, loss of balance and memory he will soon recover his sense of well being.

I do hope so.

I think it's worrying that Gareth was complaining of bad pains in his head and not even remembering what had happened. It was right that he didn't carry on and he probably needs to get checked out by a doctor.

I may be wrong, but I took it to mean that after the lines closed and he was in the bottom two, because he was too unwell to perform again, that meant he was automatically out of the show.

The reason they pulled him was owing to him not remembering what he had just done. If they had pushed him to do the dance, when his brain and stomach was obviously reacting, ITV would not have a leg to stand on if he passed out in flight or worse. It is a skating competition and surely the health and safety of the contestants should take priority over the show. At the end of the day, he was withdrawn from the competition and votes were not counted.

What a shame that one of the consistently strongest skaters is out of the skating competition for being unable to fly about on a wire. I do like the flying element but if its going to disadvantage a strong skater, I'd be happy to see it dropped as it seems unfair to go out of the competition for something that he had no control over.

Yes becase it seemed to come as a shock to him in the VT.

I'm guessing as well he was bottom 2 because Andy (Anthea's skating partner) said that Robin and Gareth needed the votes otherwise they were out because Gareth couldn't skate again

Have you seen the contract...do you know that it specifically states what all the contestants have to do each week to the nth degree? I think I know the answer to that.

I'm sure Phil said Gareth would have been in the skate off.


Contracts are iron clad now. Companies wouldn't open up themselves to the possibility of being sued but handing over anything but. I would be surprised if something as risky as flying wasn't mentioned.

I'm not saying for definite that it was there - just that I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

Well odd if Colin expressed such surprise at doing so & then concern as he had never choreographed before.

And no I haven't seen the contracts but I am not going around claiming Gareth should have know what he was letting himself in for etc.

I know you did express your sympathy for Gareth earlier & I really feel you should leave it/have left it at that. No need to still try & put any blame for this at Gareth's door.

I think whether he knew or not beforehand that he would be flying if he got to the semi finals there is no way he could have anticipated it making him so ill - everyone said they had not seen anyone react so badly before. He's a tough cookie and I'm sure he would have expected to deal with it as Beth and Luke did. His was an extreme reaction so unpredictable. I am very sorry he went out in this way but under the circumstances it was the right decision.

I do hope he is OK but, yes, he made the right decision in the end.

I was very surprised when Colin professed such inexperience. Indeed not just surprised but also disappointed because I supported Laura that year and felt his lack of choreography skills handicapped her before she put blade to ice

He should have done his homework.

It's possible that Gareth had an inner ear problem related to a blow to the head during his rugby days. This would only show up under extreme conditions, and once disturbed, the vertigo would take several days to settle. So he'd be assuming he'd get used to the flying, and probably insisting that he kept trying, but actually getting worse.

It was an unfortunate and very unusual set of circumstances. Couldn't have been predicted, and hard to diagnose until after the event.

I think it's more age-related. Luke (25) would also have had many blows to his head but he wasn't as sick as Gareth who's 38. Even Beth who's a gymnast was sick initially and she's 27. The only one who didn't seem to have been sick was Matt and he's the youngest at 23.

Well said, I'm sure if he'd known he'd have expected to be able to grit his teeth and get on with it. He did try, he wasn't cowering on the floor refusing to go up.

I don't think it's to do with age, some people are affected, some aren't. I'm over 50 but can go on theme park rides (eg Nemesis) again and again and again without a break, I don't think doing the flying would be a problem at all as long as I felt safe. Of course I would have been out in week 1 as my tense, fear-of-falling skating style would look horrid!

Hoped we'd seen the end of that ludicrous flying.
