Such a shame Gareth didn't make it!

When you look at how much skating Gaynor actually did I would say that Luke is a lot better than her and she won the bliddy thing!

Had Gareth not been withdrawn then Lukey boy would be toast. He got through by default. Not much glory in that.

Well that's a bit ridiculous, of course you can compare it to series 1, it was still the same show after all

Yes you can. Bonnie and Matt, Lisa from Steps and John Barrowman were all pretty good in series 1...but couldn't compete with someone from a very popular soap.

I think you are getting your series mixed up somewhat Lisa was in Series 2 not Series 1 and I didn't rate her as a skater anyway.

Bonnie was all about the lifts and tricks and its her fault we got saddled with the stupid flippin headbanger as it was the push for to do it. Bonnie didn't actually do much in the way of skating.

With John Barrowman I reckon he had other commitments and basically wanted out because Stefan wasn't that great and got saved over him in the skate off which was a huge shock.

With Gaynor whereas her skating was not of the standard that is now expected as said with the first series there was no benchmark there had been no previous series to go from it was feasible that a slightly weaker skater could go on to win. I think people were taken as much by the connection between Gaynor and Dan as they really performed well and her skating although basic was of a reasonable standard and I don't think she won on the back of being in Corrie as she had been out of it for a while by that point.

I don't think Luke is really as bad as people make out. I admit he's not up to the same standard as Matt, Beth, and Gareth (when he's well), but I don't think it was such a travesty for him to be in the semis, he was better than Samia, after all.

It's a shame Gareth couldn't make the finals, but it's not like Luke knocked him out, it was purely medical, and I for one, would rather watch Luke in the final, than have Gareth risk his health when it could be something serious.

Perhaps if Oona had a stronger fanbase, she could be here instead of Luke, but other than her, I really can't think of anyone this series who should be there instead

Agree with this wholeheartedly. Luke may have got to the final by default but that's hardly his fault.

I think I'd rather have Keith here now than Luke, but Luke rather than Samia. I don't mind he was in the semi-final but wouldn't have wanted him to get through to the final if Gareth had been able to skate but completely messed up for example. But I'm not overly bothered that he's in the final. Pity he made it because of Gareth being so ill though.
Couldn't possibly say if he's the worst finalist though as I can barely remember who skated last series apart from Jen' cos she bashed her head and Sebastien

I don't think he's any worse than Gaynor or Stefan (series 1), Donal (series 4 - I know I'll get hung, drawn and quartered for this but I think the only difference between the two is Donal got half decent routines) or Gary (series 5) so by no stretch is he the worst finalist ever.

Gareth should have been there, though, and it's stupid that it was flying, not skating, which hurt him.

People are going on about how Luke got through by 'default' who is to say Luke was in the SO?? , they never made it clear who Gareth would have been up against

I think it's almost certain he would have been up against Luke - he was in the skate off last week & usually in the semis the voting gets more sensible so I doubt if he would have got a vote bounce or anything.

I know ITV usually announce the voting figures at the end of the series - I wonder if they will announce the results for this week given that they effectively cancelled this week's vote. Gareth could have topped the vote and still been in the skate off.

When watching the show I thought they should have just put everyone through automatically. Gareth may not have been able to skate next week anyway but it wasn't communicated clearly. And from what Philip was saying it was like if Gareth hadn't been in the skate off then they would have had one so we could then have ended up with only 2 finalists.

Barrowman always comes across as very compettive in anything he undertakes so I doubt that he 'wanted out',

I've heard him talking at conventions etc, and he still sounds a bit peeved about being voted off.

Though he has said that in hindsight getting voted off probably did his career some good because it boosted his profile ; people are still talking about it

But the thread title says nothing about '...with the exception of series 1'.

I agree, Fudd, especially with the BIB. The routines this year have been below par.

IIRC Gary wasn't a bad skater but he was self-conscious throughout and it took weeks to get him past this, Coincidentally I think it was the same song that Luke skated (not flew) to this week (What About Now) when he finally managed it.

I think Luke has improved week by week has been trying hard and seems very keen and is good to watch. Why shouldnt he be in the semis.
