The Flying Routine - Medical tests needed?
bingoman

If Dancing on Ice returns next year and include the Flying Routine should the Contestants have a Medical before taking up the Flying element of the show just make sure they Healthy and it is safe as im sure the Producers and Torvill and Dean not want the same thing happen another Contestant after Garteh illness this week

Or next year they could just axe the Flying Element from the show as it is possibly Dangerous for some of the Contestants and the Health and Saftey of the person has to come first

It is a lot less dangerous than the skating that they are already doing....or don't you remember Keith Chegwin breaking his shoulder and cracking three ribs.

I'd scrap the flying solely on the basis it has nowt to do with skating.

Am sure they have a detailed medical before doing the show.

...and I doubt many of the celebs have ever flown by wire before, so if it does affect them adversely, how would they have known beforehand?

Personally I would prefer to see it scrapped. How much time did Luke or the others spend on the ice? Its their skating I want to see - save the flying for show dances.

I've never liked the flying, I don't think it's fair on the male celebrities and it doesn't really have anything to do with skating. They obviously pushed Gareth this week hoping he'd get over it, but he's just got weaker and weaker.
If DOI is back next year I think they'll scrap flying after tonights show. I don't think it was in the show last year and I can't say I missed it.
The contestants said they hated it, the judges (well Jason) said they hated it and any viewers I've spoken to hate it too.

I don't watch DOI so I only know about this from reading headlines but as someone who gets really bad motion sickness I immediately thought it sounded incredibly stupid to take someone on a programme to skate and then effectively penalise them for having something they can't control that has nothing to do with skating.

I wonder did the celebs know it was in the show this year when they signed up, since it hadn't for a year or two?

The medical advise in my opinion was more for the safety of the girl who might get a skate in the face because Garath was unwell or we might of seen him vomit abit.

Been sailing a lot in my life and Ive lost count of crew we have just had to strap to the deck and leave to vomit and feel like they are dying, sea sickness/motion sickness is very delilating and horrible but it wont kill you.

But then I did wonder if Garath migh actualy have positional virtigo. I had it and it makes the world spin when your head is in certain positions. I ask this as with sea sickness the second a person hits an stands on dry land they start to recover.

I'm disgusted they even allowed Gareth to practice flying on the day when they knew how ill it made him. They should have made other arrangements.
The poor man looked really ill when talking to Phil, I felt so sorry for him. I thought he was going to drop on the floor he was swaying.
I honestly have never like the flying routines, what do they have to do with skating? .
I just hope that Gareth is okay, he will be gutted that he thinks he has let his fans down i Imagine.
If the show is on next year, I hope they drop this routine, it does not show the performers skating skills and is quite dangerous for the partner left on the ice.
I also hope they drop the team/group routines, I wish they would just stick to skating.

I think that once Gareth had been physically sick and things weren't getting any better, they should have dropped that routine for him on medical grounds. I'm sure the public and the other contestants would have been understanding about it. As it is, persistently trying to make him do the routine all week has come to him having to pull out and might even have undermined his health. It was really quite awful to see him being so ill every time he was flying, it should have been stopped.

I think they should scrap it. It has little or nothing to do with skating.

That comment was horrible. Purely horrible.

So because they are getting paid they should automatically carry on and do their routine and almost faint? If Gareth had of passed out on that ice, he could have seriously done damage
