It was probably Matt and they didn't want people to know he's not getting the public vote.

He failed a task as you put it because of a medical issue not because he forgot his routine or slip or fell or wasn't good. Flying is not neccessary skill for ice skating/dancing and was taken out completely last year so Gareth's case is not as simple as you are suggesting or as simple as for example Sebastian's last year who went out after his solo skating skills test due to forgetting it. As they cancel the vote and it was due to a medical reason they could have easily have put four people in the final cut a ad break or 2 as they seem to be longer than the show and then eliminate the first contestant after the first round of routines one after the second and then two doing the bolero. All three who are in the final deserve to be there because of a number of different reasons but Gareth shouldn't have been eliminated due to illness or flying!

Whether flying is or isnt ice dancing the fact remains he didnt do it ergo he failed and was elimated quite rightly because he didnt. Rules is rules!

They're not going to cut an ad break or two (as much as I would welcome this). They depend on the revenue from the advertising companies.

People have been given a pass for less than Gareth and his medical condition but let's agree to disagree

I know but we could dream they really don't need to cut any breaks anyways to fit one extra routine just cut the chat down a bit and number of vts

but it wouldn't just be one routine ... they'd have to fit in an extra showdance too and some of the pros are already having to double up ... so it would make scheduling rehearsal time a bit tight

they'd also have to fit in an extra elimination section in the show where 4th place was eliminated

I wish Gareth had made the final under normal circumstances but the final's obviously scheduled for just three competitors

I was saying earlier that all 4 should have been in the final & flying shouldn't have been in the semi final anyways. Rkid was stating that Gareth failed at a task and should have been eliminated anyways & I was only stating that people have got passes due to illness and that Gareth didn't fail anything. I know that no-one has been given a pass into the final and I wouldn't agree with doing that either unless there was no elimination in the semi final.

There could have done their favourite performance each then eliminate one contestant three showdance then eliminate another contestant and then the bolero with the timeslot they have they could have easily done this including judges comment, vts and eliminations. They also didn't need to put 4 other skaters in each of the showdances either. They have changed finals for strictly and I understand it is harder for doi but its not impossible.

It'd be a bit naff to get all the way to a final and just get one 90 second routine (and a repeated one at that) especially if you'd rehearsed a big showdance with other skaters

Then they could do the showdances whatever works but they aren't going to do it anyway and its no more naff as getting to the whole way to the semi & getting kick out due to motion sickness. As I said before the three that are in the final deserve it but so does Gareth.

He's about as interesting as a tin of beige paint. But glad he's on the mend.

Look we are never going to agree on this you have your opinion and I have mine. You could see in the vts that he was willing to fly and that he could do it, he wanted to do the routine but was pulled out by doctors not by choice so to me that is not failing at anyway. Yes he didn't perform on the show but only due to medical reasons not by choice.

I don't know why they used the flying stuff- what has that got to do with dancing on ice and skating

A skills test would have been a better idea
