Which phone for my work mate(budget)
Got a work mate asking me what the galaxy mini is like and is it any good, well I'm an iPhone user so I've no idea, but a quick google told me their probably not the best for that kind of budget? He didn't tell me what he wants to spend but clearly it's not a big amount if he's looking at the mini.
He wants it on contract. (Can't remember which network he's on) So a contract phone that's in the same price plan bracket as the galaxy mini? If any? |

If he's on O2, they carry the Nexus 4.

The far superior Nexus 4 for free with similar contract will cost 32 p/m. Sadly there's quite a gulf and I think budget means between 100 to 150 quid phones so maybe 10 to 15 quid/m contracts? |

Yeah hes like 53 so hes not bothered about it being top spec as long as its good at being a phone and something he can browse the occasional webpage, download a few apps etc and have a half decent camera.
At the moment hes using an awful phone i dont even know what it is, looks like a blackberry but its not. And yeah i guess the contract wouldnt be more than £15 if were talking galaxy mini |

Let's assume he's on O2, according to their website he can get the Galaxy Mini for free on a 22 p/m contract (not advised as the Mini is no where near SGS3 spec).

The Nexus 4 only really works if you buy it outright direct from Google then pair it up with a great value SIM deal. The Nexus 4 at £289 works out at £12/mth over the course of 24 months and you can get some truly amazing 30 days rolling (i.e. no long commitment especially given the fact the OP's mate is nearly as ancient as me lol) for £10/mth so effectively £22/mth for an amazing phone and no real time commitment. |

Yes, I currently have a Nexus 4 with Giff gaff 10 p/m contract.
For 15 p/m you'll have to ask him yourself, how big are his hands? I ask this because my dad is a similar age, a bit older in fact but anyway, we got him an Xperia U last year but I think the screen is a little too small for his hands and plus the older gen tend to like bigger writing. If your workmate doesn't mind doing redemption then he can get this, Optimus 4X HD, it's about 17 p/m after redemption. I wouldn't normally recommend it but as he's a new user and the fact the phone is going so cheap given the tariff I think it's actually pretty good value for money. Alternatively, we can try Samsung Galaxy Advance, after redemption is 12.50 p/m. |

Tell to beware of signing contracts in a shop. Better to order online as you get at least 7 day grace period to return if he doesn't like it, some places like Phones4u don't allow it unless there's something wrong with the handset.
