She belongs to the Petrie Hosken school of broadcasting. A description of which is too rude to post.

And again no for Ian Collins - too blokey for Drive. And James Max would be no better.

According to James W on Twitter he had no idea he was going to be sacked - and a lot of people are tweeting how pissed off they are with LBC.
As I am.
I sometimes wonder if Global gives a tuppenny damn for their listeners.
And how bizarre that they should sack a presenter like Whale. It makes you wonder what on earth their end-game is.

But for tonight I am just very sad to see such a familiar voice depart from the airwaves.

Here are the (entirely fictional) odds on the new drivetime presenter as offered to me by a shady looking man in a very suspicious hat:

2/1 fav James Max
3/1 Ian Payne
5/1 Iain Dale
10/1 Ian Collins, Clive Bull
12/1 Daisy Sampson
50/1 Jon Gaunt, Danny Baker
150/1 Tommy Boyd
250/1 Alison Bell
1000/1 Nick Clegg

Other odds on application apparently.....

I agree if i did twitter i would be on there tonight with words too rude to repeat on a family forum for LBC.

I too am sad a presenter of the calibre of JW deserved a lot better treatment.

Just hope the new presenter cuts the mustard otherwise Five live drive for me.Who knows what their end game is.

That's why, rather than him go altogether, I'd wish he was on something less news-driven. However, regarding relationship to Murdoch, Ferrari trumps all. Wasn't he heavily involved in getting Sky News off the ground and a big favourite of Murdoch himself? Not to mention his involvement with Fox.

True.

That's the nature of news-driven LBC though. Same old news means same old topics. Same old traffic system means same old traffic updates and snarl-ups/accidents/tube repairs in same old places.

“Ian Collins would be the best person to take over.”

Ugh. The further Collins gets from talking about Spangles and kids' holidays, the more unlistenable he becomes. I'm not sure he can carry a show on his own either. He's always relied on interaction with producers or guests to an extent that I don't think he could do Drive Time.

Ian Payne is to nice for the listeners. Maybe that's what LBC wants. Presenters bow down now.

Nick Abbott anyone?

I bet steve allen will get a few emails asking why he's left?

I thought something was up when Ian didnt say he was sitting in for James.

It's about time Clive was given a peak time day slot. He knows the audience and can get a good topic discussed properly.

I feel sorry for James Whale, he'll still be on Sky News on Sunrise on Thursday mornings i expect. Now, It's time for the call from 5 Live to get him back on air.

When Whale kept going on about poor old Rupert Murdoch when he got a custard pie in the mug was the day I fell out of love with Mr W. "He's just a poor old man!" he'd bleat, and "What if this happened to a pensioner on the street. How would you feel then?"

So I don't mind a change. I'm hoping they are bringing Henry Kelly back. <<<---- JOKE

No too wacky for that time of day,and would amanda be there for him to bounce off.

Having listened to James Whale for years much of what he said was tongue in cheek i laughed when he said Murdoch was a poor old man did you not.?He has a point about a real pensioner in the street though.

Hope not, she used LBC as a quick stepping stone to ITV News and wasn't remembered as she left.

She had a voice that sounded like the screech of nails on an old blackboard

She used to be charles kenendys personal press secretary probably got the voice by screeching at him to throw the bottles away.

I didn't like James Whale, but I don't expect to like every presenter on LBC, I just expect them to be good at what they do. I didn't like JW's style and I'm not especially sorry that he's gone, but I don't like the way that LBC gets rid of people, it seems rather cruel. One day they're there and presenting as normal, next day they're gone, without any notice. Not nice.

Were the rating that high though ? i'm not in a position to comment as i haven't seen figures for the drive slot before JW but from the latest RAJAR graphs the figures for that slot look ok but not brilliant. I would personally of thought that they should be higher especially as breakfast is reaching number 2/3 in the commercial ratings now.

Ian Collins would be a good choice so would Duncan Barkes but in my honest opionion James Whale would be better,he also did not let slippery politicians off the hook with weasel answers on plenty of occasions.”

Ferrari is a well polished act though and while i'm not a fan he is great at what he does and he had great figures as well. i would love Duncan for drive, i personally think he would fit great but i have a feeling LBC see him as a night voice and that the promotion he will get eventually will be 10 - 1.

5live is pretty much the only place left for him apart from BBC London but i think he's still far to "shock jock" for any of the BBC even though he's tamed his act a lot for LBC. If Whale were to join the BBC he would have to be completely different and he wouldn't be aloud to get away with having a solid opinion, he would have to fit on the fence a lot more. Is that something The Whale can do ? Only he knows.

Personally i can see the replacement being The Max, if he doesn't get it then i can see him replacing O'Brien in the not to far distant future.

hope he returns to the 10 pm slot on talksport .he is badly needed there as it's a dire 24/7 sport bore now i doubt jon gaunt could fit the job in now that he has a new T shirt and pr company on the go

NF is one staunch Murdoch stooge as is his great mate, Kelvin Mackenzie. - 2 peas in the same tabloid pod. Both of them were at the forefront in launching Sky TV.

Disagree. Collins may be a hard right winger, but knows his way around the political scene a whole lot better than JW does. He's also good at letting callers finish their point instead of constant interrupting or cutting them off needlessly. Whether he can handle the political heavyweights in an interview situation remains to be seen but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt

Oh but the irony!

Now he knows how it feels to be cut-off without warning.

I've never like James Whale and I'm delighted that LBC have got shot of him.

LBC has a shocking lack of female presenters compared with male ones so I hope they will replace James Whale with a woman.

My only criterion is whether a presenter is any good at radio rather than their gender: sadly Petrie & JHB don't help the argument for more female presenters.

Good grief! Partial agreement. I enjoyed his TV show, many years ago, but his radio personna is a bit abrasive for me. I don't often listen at that time anyway, so I can't say I'm bothered by his departure.

Who knows why LBC didn't renew his contract. He comes across as a fully paid up member of the awkward squad, so perhaps they simply couldn't agree terms. He does seem to take more time off than anybody else. I doubt if LBC have decided to let him go simply on a whim.
