Have to confess I'm trying out my new toy, I treated myself to the new Kindle Fire. I have no willpower.

I can't tell you how long it's taking me to type this although it does have this clever little dictionary thing where it gives you words to choose so you don't have to type the whole word.

At least it's cheering me up as I'm feeling really rough, I have the lurgy in the form of a throat infection. Voice has totally gone now and now my ears are sore and eyes are watery.

Off to serve jacket potatoes now, one of my comfort foods.

Catch you all tomorrow. Have a good evening.
Sorry you are unwell Lena
hope you're feeling better today
and got lots of rest xxxx

lena I haven't tried coming on here using the kindle fire...maybe it could be my next trick....

And georgy I m not that interested in Brangelina........although I must confess to not being that impressed by the pair of them when he walked out on Jennifer Aniston....So are Brangelina's kids all home educated then? My oldest daughter loves Angelina Jolie...she inspired her first tattoos...so I too have reasons not to be too impressed with her....And I hated lara Croft....what an irriating characterisation and interpretation of womanhood....but...

my splinter seems better now.......the redness has gone down....

Just sitting here watching Outnumbered...I love this comedy...How are we doing in the Olympics...

Morning all

O/H has had to get up early so guess (no prizes) who has had to get up to get him up?

How is your finger augusta?

Just had an email from friends in Australia - they have such hot weather (40 degrees) that they don't go outside at all - except to go shopping. Too hot even for them to go to the beach. Drought in California, rain here - really screwy weather. Wonder how John copes in all of this, but then he is still a youngster. . .

My social life is really buzzing - two funerals in 3 days and in different parts of the country. What a bleak outlook!

Anyway, must say cheerio to o/h - more later.
So sorry you're having so much sad news lately
really would like to give you a hug
sending my love and wishes

this weather is very strange, i think the rain is getting everyone down
i,m taking my son out to lunch tomorrow, will be nice to get out

Hows the finger,

not sure about the kids education, must be home educated, no school and the oldest is now a
teen. She drags them around the world,
with nannies, but they seem to have no interaction, with other children.
Which can't be good
and as for the tattoos, i feel the same as you

as for the olympic we are doing well in the mens curling, gold or silver will be won by them,
and the women still have a chance at a bronze

Seconded

See now, this is further proof (if it were needed) of the essential good nature of the JJAT.....we even support each other's football teams

Have heard from daughter in S Africa by the way.....she sent me a photo (via WhatsApp ) of her in a helicopter, looking very glamorous It seems her hosts are looking after her well. And at least one of us has managed to escape the rain for a bit

Time for some rest now I think. Sleep tight all

Lindy xx

PS Enjoy your lunch tomorrow Georgy. And nyannie, keep up the positivity, am thinking of you x

Morning all

Not feeling great this morning. Blocked nose and real pain in my sinus - going back to bed for an hour.

Booked the hotel (tried for a B&B) but they are all full so had to go to a more expensive place but they do have parking. Will be glad to have some closure on the sadness.

O/H is home today and we are going to our market town - he has to get his glasses fixed and I am desperate to poodle around a bookshop and John Lewis. Bridges still closed but the Army is in the next village helping to clear up all the sewerage and getting rid of excess water. I wonder when the trains will be running normally again.

It could be worse - we could have the snow and ice they have in NY.

Well, best get going.

Have a lovely day everyone and keep warm and dry! It is raining here again.

Will watch the figure skating later - some very good women skaters.

glad you are feeling a bit better today nyannie...

well my car is mended and returned....yes......the shopping is done, so the dogs can eat for another week....

good news about the curling, and watching the figure skating seems a good idea.

Just as a matter of curiousity, I always thought that Heat Magazine and OK magazine were owned by different people, and not really the same kind of gossip sheet..... I saw someone saying they were owned by the same people, has Heat been taken over by Desmond and co as well ?

Evening all

A bit late, I'm afraid! Have been reading back and am glad to hear everyone seems to be coping with the many and various challenges before us......The flooding sounds bad where you are nyannie, we don't have a full train service to London yet but your journey sounds worse.... Still, as you say, snow and ice would / could be worse....

I saw some of the Olympics today. The extreme skiing was fantastic , as were the figure skaters. I loved the artistic expression of the Italian woman, and thought the Korean girl was unlucky to miss out to a very talented young Russian skater. And didn't the curlers do well? It's the turn of the men tomorrow. Good luck guys!

Have been working this week and actually really enjoying it. Not sure I'm really cut out for retirement.......

Anyway better get some rest.

Sleep tight all and take care

Morning all
st
Sun is out and I've just been in the very very soggy garden. Off to get my hair done - wish I felt better.

Had to get up at 5.45 this morning to get o/h out the door - he had a very early start today.

Having a quiet weekend and I really am going to tackle the study. Want to move the ice cream maker out of it. I want to sell it so now that the spring is almost here. . .

Busy week next week - need to call the roofers, fridge helpline and organize contributions in friends' name.

All my bulbs are sprouting which lifts my heart.

Have a good day today.

im impressed you get up in the morning for your OH nyannie, Mine is perfectly capable of getting himself up!! Im not really that much of a morning person.

Its absolutely beautiful here today, blue skies and sunshine for the first time in weeks.

Lindy Im glad you are working if you enjoy it, I wouldn't necessarily, but we do need a wide variety of different people doing different things.

At heart Im too much of a dreamer, and find it hard to work within certain aspects of the 'real world' which is probably why I love books , tv and films so much. And even watching other people on reality shows, which is pure escapism!

how long has this thread been going? its pretty fantastic really!

The internet is a powerful thing.

Maybe John James needs to use it a bit more.

I'm not a morning person either! Well, you can probably tell that from the times I post......

I tend to prepare things the night before, and leave out breakfast etc for the family, and sometimes lunch in Tupperware in the fridge. Then I can relax the following morning, knowing I've done my bit!

It's been a really busy week, looking at houses and having viewings. Fingers crossed, I may have some news soon

For now I need to put out breakfast and get some rest.

Sleep tight all

Im looking forwards to some good news.........we need things to be cheerful about.

I like your level of organisation, I did manage to do things like this when my kids were small, but now I kind of let them just get on with it.. I do buy everything and make sure the fridge is stocked up with everything needed for packed lunches etc though. Its usually only me and the dogs and cats that need breakfast though..

we watched The Fifth estate film , which was fascinating.

it is a fascinating story, about the story of how wkleakes came about, told more in the film from the perspective of Daniel, who was the more technical and idealist of the pair involved at the beginning of the story, explaining how they rose to such prominence, and why he ended up being forced to leave wkleakes by Assange.

And im getting into The Voice on Saturday nights which is also fascinating. I have no idea who is going to win, but it is interesting to watch and predict which ones are likely to be successful, which ones might be a one hit wonder, and which ones wont do much at all..

Fame is such an unpredictable game. and I have no idea which or what makes someone successful , to some extent there are some factors that seem to be important, but I think maybe confidence and personality is key. And that is something that cant be created or added into the mix. You can have a singer who is note perfect, but who doesn't have a personality that is sparky enough...which is a shame.

But I also have a feeling that in reality, people actors, singers etc who are going to be famous and who choose to be famous, would be in any case. because they tend to stand out in some way and be distinctive, charismatic and popular.

So jealous going to Twickenham. I watched some of the match on TV - got too tense for me so switched over.

My reading glasses just broke! Need to get them fixed!

Tulips and daffodils and crocuses up. Lovely day

it is a beautiful day..........I have been missing the sunshine so so much.

I was reading something that said how the author of the books, The hunger games got the idea whilst channel surfing between an unnamed reality show, and the news reports about war....What an interesting reason to write a book!!

I will miss the winter Olympics as well.

how are all the floods ....and travel disruptions ? We haven't really had any issues here, but a lot of the problems haven't been that obvious on the news...

Well, it was a beautiful day - lots of showers this afternoon.

Roads still closed as there is still some flooding! Feel trapped that I can't go into London or Oxford.

Have a lovely evening all.

its raining here again tonight........

well I think we have booked a summer break in Tenerife this summer. It hard cos me and my OH don't seem to share the same idea about holidays. He gets so tired all he wants is a lazy beach holiday with sun and sea and swimming pools. Im not keen on the heat, and would much rather visit somewhere interesting, where I can go sightseeing and do things.....This is very much a holiday for him, but Ive never been to Tenerife, so it might be interesting. loads of people have enjoyed holidays there...

Raining here too

I'm sure you'll enjoy your holiday Augusta. There's something of interest everywhere and if push comes to shove there's always a book! Relax......and breathe! x

Hi nyannie, you are very unlucky that public transport is still not fully up and running where you are Are there any other routes you can take? This surely can't go on much longer......x

Hi Lindy
The other route has a replacement bus through Staines! Feel a bit trapped. Hopefully things will be better next week.

My glasses broke - well actually the straight part came off - will have to go into town to get them fixed tomorrow.

Sun is shining so feel much better today although will have to go to GP to get my ears checked. Think I have another infection in them. Oh joy!!!!
