And sadly the miracle never came to pass...... Sorry Lena and Arsenal
Thanks Lindy, it was a tall order really.
Well done to Fabianski though for saving the penalty. We all sat here marvelling at the way the ball just sat there spinning on the spot, I've never seen anything like it.

Now we need to bounce back and concentrate on the Premiership, we've let things slip and we have some big matches coming up, starting with the North London derby on Sunday.

I live with someone who has spreadsheets for just about everything, he knows where every single penny goes. To be fair we probably wouldn't be where we are today without his careful watch on the pennies.

I have been known to hide receipts now and again.

I always shop with a list and stick to it for the most part, although I do take advantage of offers when they're on. Actually forgot my list last week, felt very odd going round without it. Amazingly I got everything that was on it.

Off now to give the big match my undivided attention and pray for a miracle.

Morning all.

I too go with a list and I too look out for 2 for 1 on things we regularly use. We make a lot of our bread but I do buy bagels. I also buy Christmas presents throughout the year - if I see something I think someone would like, I buy it. Although now it is a much smaller present list. Buy food and plants or theatre tickets as most people I know are decluttering.

I am sorry Arsenal lost - but hope that England can win the rugby crown this week.

My fritillaria have sprouted and they look lovely!

im so glad to hear you are feeling more positive.......

Is this going to be your final move do you think? Its so odd isn't it how differently people see moving. And also how different times affect it. Growing up in the late 60s and 70s many people and families moved frequently.... council .housing estates like Harlow , were built on the premise of familes moving home to accommodate different family stages, so start in a small one bedroom place, move to a 2 bedroom when children came, a 3 bedroom when more children came, and presumably the idea was to move back down the houses again, as people aged and families changed. But as the housing stock all got sold off, I think everything changed!!

I think I am like you , we constantly spend too much .....on silly things...we waste far too much food for instance...I too need to make a budget and stick to it sensibly...
Interesting post Augusta I agree there has been a lot of dislocation (literally) over our lifetimes, which leads to a lot of people not really knowing where they're from......and it's not a huge leap to also not knowing who you are

We have moved quite a lot basically because o/h always has itchy feet, and in the past has wanted to move for his job. I am the opposite, for me my home is my home, and I will accept it despite it's shortcomings ( which in our current house are many!)

So.....there's no way of knowing whether this will be our last move.....

By the way if we were moving closer to London that for me would be great. I think it was finding out that the village has no street lights that was the last straw on Sunday Though I will come to love looking up at the stars, no doubt

Have a good day everyone

We don't have many street lights at night - Our Council , like quite a few others, has turned them off to save money. They are only on the lead up to main roads. I love to see the stars in sky - you see so many more where there is no light pollution. I don't think there would be too many problems as most people drive at night rather than walk.

Our cul de sac isn't lit, so I usually take a flashlight with me if we walk to a friend's house for dinner. Isn't too bad as the lights from houses help as does the flashlight.

We didn't have street lights until the council started dumping houses all around us and to be honest, I would rather not have the street lights as we wouldn't have all the houses. I don't go out much at night, guess you can tell.

I am sure you will settle very nicely in your new home - it may take a bit of time, but you will. I too want to be closer to London but we won't be looking for about 4 years. I am just hoping we can afford something closer with activities and shops that I can walk to. I feel very isolated here. We moved here so my o/h didn't have a long commute and didn't have to drive on the M25 every day. I on the other hand commuted to London for over 5 years and it almost killed me - 2 1/2 hrs each way. Off at 6.15 in the morning and home at 7.30. Never saw the house in daylight for most of the year! Thank goodness those days are gone.

Evening all...

commuting it odd isn't it.........I have done it to a certain extent..and its like most things, its tends to just take over and you get on with it.....I don't think I really have a problem with commuting...but its the other things that need to be done...like the shopping and housework....If I could just come into an immaculate house with food on the table, and dogs walked, I would happily commute......but not both!!

whatever is it with some parents....and the names they choose to give their children...Like Angel or Troy, for children that are nothing like an Angel or norse god.....!!

Maybe its just me, feeling old....but Im starting to see the side effects of only using phonics......spellings....are becoming very phonetic.....So its getting harder to read. Im having to reread things and say them aloud in my head to make any sense of them. most confusing....!!

I agree with you about commuting. Our house looked like a bomb hit it as I didn't do things during the week - I was too pooped! In the end we had to get a cleaner.

Very misty out today. Was going to go to town but feel really tired for some reason. Think I will have a lazyish day and catch up on some ironing!

Have a lovely day all.

oh wouldn't it be amazing if we could all live together in the same village and be neighbours!! what a wonderful thought...

Glad you are feeling a better now georgy...xx

The mist this morning was so eerie....it both beautiful and scary to drive through.
I was driving to what must be one of the most isolated places in Essex...literally miles from anywhere.......... Its making me wonder what on earth has happened to this missing plane...where on earth is it?

I don't know if I like the idea of no streetlights or not? I love the idea of not having any light pollution, and not needing lights at night, and on starry clear nights you don't really need extra lighting. But on the unlit roads near us....its the pedestrians and cyclists that bug me, especially those at dusk and twilight who are out without lights on them. If you are driving it can be hard to see them...

Morning all.

So sorry you aren't well georgy - methinks you have been doing too much - as usual - and not looking after yourself.

I'd move to your village if I could afford it, but think if we can, we will move to the Woking area when o/h retires - I hate to think it, but suspect we won't be able to afford to move anywhere!

Think you are absolutely right about the cyclists. Around here I have yet to see any cyclist with a helmet and reflecting or light clothes. Terrible!

Gorgeous day today - just put some cayenne pepper in the flower beds to see if that will deter the pesky squirrel I have been waging war with.

Will be watching rugby today. Hope England score massively.

Have a good day everyone.

Sorry to hear you've been so poorly georgy I wish you a speedy recovery. It's
miserable feeling so ill when the weather's so lovely. I know just how you feel as I'm now laid low for the second time in a month.

I think I have what you have had. I thought I felt poorly a couple of weeks ago, now I feel absolutely awful. One minute I'm boiling next I'm shivering and to top it all I've woken this morning with cold streaming out of my left eye. Going to risk a shower in a minute as I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards. Hoping a little steam will open my airways a bit.

Oh Lena, how miserable for you

There have been some awful bugs around this year......perhaps the weather hasn't been cold enough to see them off.... My younger daughter had something similar earlier this year and says she's never felt so bad (she's young, give her time )

Anyway I hope you feel better soon xx

It's the start of the Formula 1 season this weekend down under in Melbourne's Albert Park. I wonder if John is watching?

For some reason they showed qualifying live on Sky 1, so I set my Sky box to record it. Will have to make do with highlights for the race though on BBC.

I have to say the new regulations have produced some of the ugliest cars I have ever seen. Jeremy Clarkson was spot on when he likened the nose on some of them to a sex aid.
Where has the lovely sound of the engines gone, now they sound like mopeds. Horrendous!

On the plus side Vettel is down in 13th, well out qualified by his new Aussie teammate
Ricciardo who is on the front row. He can't get away from those pesky Aussie's.

It's a lovely day down here, but I'm stuck indoors.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Thanks Lindy, I feel better than I did yesterday, but I had a restless night. It's very hard when you're already boiling and you're lying next to a human radiator, bless him.

Hope you're feeling more positive about your move now. I rather like the idea of no street lights. They've just changed ours to led's which produce a bright white light, it's a bit like walking in a full moon. The light concentrates downwards, so we no longer get the halo effect that we had with the neons. It means we see far more stars than we used to. Mind you we only have one street light at each end of our walkway.

Well, it was a lovely weekend and then BAM -

Got more bad news. Another friend has died. He and his partner live in back of us. He died on Thursday in his sleep - only 66. Luckily his partner has a daughter and other family who have rallied around. I just don't think I can take any more bad news this year - it has been a bummer so far!

Slept better last night, though a coughing fit woke me just after six struggled to get back to sleep after that.
My lovely o/h is going to the pharmacy shortly try and get something for my poor eyes, I now have conjunctivitis. They're very sore.

Another beautiful day and I'm confined to barracks.

I need our lovely thread doctor nyannie.

Oh no how sad.....

I suppose death is inevitable, and to be honest probably preferable to the way my neighbour has gone ...in a home with dementia after only being diagnosed a couple of years ago...

but.....that is sad to hear....

Oh, nyannie, I am so sorry to hear this Such sad news, and 66 is no age to go

I guess your neighbour will need all the support she can get......and you'll miss him too, being so close at hand.

Take care of yourself and as you say, live for now ( I realise I have a nerve saying that after some of my recent posts) ...

Love, Lindy xxx
