Well, it was a lovely weekend and then BAM -
Got more bad news. Another friend has died. He and his partner live in back of us. He died on Thursday in his sleep - only 66. Luckily his partner has a daughter and other family who have rallied around. I just don't think I can take any more bad news this year - it has been a bummer so far! what a sad start you've had to this year sending my wishes your way xxx |

Thank you for all your lovely get well wishes
it was so nice to read i,m a bit like lena and saying thank god for the sport on tv, with this illness not so much the motor racing, i know this is one of lena fav things but the Rugby for me on Sat, where i shouted something i never thought i would before ![]() it went a bit like COME ON FRANCE ![]() and i just knew i couldn't trust them ( 2 lousy sh*tty points, and one lesson in passing needed) ![]() i also found myself cheering for Aston Villa and by the way, if the cricket doesn't improve they will find themselves ......... on ignore ![]() hope everyone has enjoyed the sun and got out and about sending good thoughts, for your week

Morning all
georgy - I was like you with the rugby and feel the same way. Hope you are feeling better too! I feel so badly for my friend's loss but she does have a very supportive family - I will try and bake a cake to take around for her later this week. Went to a local craft village yesterday. Turned out to be pretty ordinary. Has motivated me to actually do some painting! Hope you all have a lovely day. |

They are a much darker red than the natives. They are like the American crayfish, destroying the native variety and doing damage. They keep breeding too - I would hoover them up asap. |

this thread is so educational......
I saw some ladybugs out yesterday and was surprised as it seemed really early for them....but I wouldn't want them in the house. We went to a garden centre yesterday and although it was ok, its kind of betwixt and between, its trying to be very up market and exclusive with a wonderful farm shop full of lovely foods...but....then lets the whole thing down with paper cups if you want to sit outside in the sunshine.... ![]() Georgy I hope you get rid of this nasty chest infection, there are some horrid viruses around out there.... Did anyone else see the Nasa space programmes ? We caught the one yesterday and it was incredible to see the international space station flying around the world at breakneck speed. As I vividly remember the space landings on the moon as a child, I have always been interested in space exploration and thought of it as quite exciting.... |

Yes, we saw the program - was amazing! Man needs to find new galaxies to move to when the earth dies (horrible thought to lose this beautiful world) and I love to see all the astronomy programs. I know when I saw the Brian Cox program and he mentioned this it sent shivers down my spine even though I will be nothing but ash by the time it happens. I just hope all the knowledge is used for good. I thought Dermot was a good presenter too - think he is wasted on X-Factor and all of that. Had an interesting result with my dry clean carpet. Had to change vacuum bags - the 'test areas' look cleaner and certainly don't have a nasty smell but I do think you can only do a 'patch' at a time. |

The ladybirds/bugs you are finding inside and ouside are NOT native to the UK. They are destroying the native ones. I have found them round my curtain hooks in the bedroom. As they aren't the native species I vacuum them up and use bug killer spray around my windows. They BITE too! I speak from experience. I heard about them on Gardener's Question time I think.
It sounds cruel, but I would kill them. They are a much darker red than the natives. They are like the American crayfish, destroying the native variety and doing damage. They keep breeding too - I would hoover them up asap. i assure you the ones that have made it into the house were sucked up very quickly ![]() i was more worried about the ones all up the outside walls hundreds of them ![]() but if they are not native to this country and are killing our own now i won't feel so cruel about power hosing them

the Space programme was on channel 4 , last week and the live show was on sunday evening....
im trying to put together some ideas for jewellery, and its the balance of having good ideas alongside learning how to do things...its actually so hard to join gemstones to silver .........in a good setting, so this is my main focus at the moment, as I love the colours and textures of gemstones.. I will try and sort some ideas out for our next thread meet up...which im looking forwards to.... |

My theory is that they get in in the summer when windows are open and then lay their eggs. I have found some in the winter by my curtain railings - disgusting!

So what books are you all reading?
Ive been re reading the first Divergent book as I saw that the film Is starting to be promoted, but could do with a few more suggestions. Lovely day out in London today, I love doing trips out. Just wish I could live my life doing things like this, instead of the usual day to day things,!! I did my good deed for the day when I got back to my car and reuinited a stray dog that was running around the car park, with its owners....it had run down the path the wrong way from a nearby field, and I think it was a bit worried....!! I love these kinds of random acts of kindness... So it was the budget today....anything interesting......Im quite intrigued at the idea of a new shaped £1 piece.....I wonder what it will be like? And what will I use in the supermarket trolleys? |

Morning all.
I am reading SNOW by Orham Pamuk, Hemingway's Boat and just finished A CITY OF WOMEN. Very good. Not feeling great so plan to spend the morning in bed reading. Then tackle the mountain of ironing!!! Good thing for us in the budget, you don't have to buy an annuity and the Isa limit has been raised - not that we have lots of money - but it is good to know. Hope everyone has a great day. |

evening everyone.........
Just saw that one of the teachers from Educating Yorkshire...dedicated his award to Michael Gove....but.......he was using an old fashioned meaning to the word.. apparently in previous times...dedicated meant.....shoving something in a rather indelicate place....!! Isnt it odd how words change their meanings over time!! What kind of day have you had today? The options are .....Outstanding, Good, satisfactory and inadequate. I think I am going to grade my day Today as inadequate....in so many different ways. I quite enjoyed my work. But gave out the results of an inspection, from a few months ago.....and the result was inadequate...so I thought I would give this grade to the entire day. In 4 different areas of course .. The weather...inadequate...cold and very windy. The traffic on the roads.....inadequate...too much of it , and the lorries wouldn't get out of my way quickly enough. The company....inadequate...nobody smiled enough, especially considering its the International day of happiness The food .....inadequate.....my pizza was disappointing. After one such inadequate day...I wonder how I am going to feel tomorrow? Will it follow on from today and be disappointing and inadequate? Or can I somehow find some deep reserve of optimism to make tomorrow into a better day? I know that I work and feel so much better with praise and constructive criticism mixed in with plenty of encouragement and support. So why in heavens name are schools teachers and even though it is indirect.....the young children within them, being labelled as failures? or inadequate??? How is this meant to inspire or create the right kind of atmosphere for any meaningful improvement??? |
