ive almost finished cutting the grass and weeding all the flowerbeds in the garden. Its not massive but it takes a bit of looking after. I like cottage gardens, but so do all the weeds.

isnt it odd weather this year though, ? Im sure this time last year I had started to plant things out, but this year its still far too cold. The bird feeders are full up, so hopefully when it does get better weather, I can plant out a few annuals.... What colours should I go for this year?

Hi JJAT - I'm back from my USA holiday - loved New Orleans and the Louisiana swamps - just like those great Dave Robideaux books by James Lee Burke. But the alligators kept diving for cover when they saw me!

Hope everyone had a great Easter - wonder how many eggs John got? I only got one - but it's just a memory now...

Don't recall any Mary Renault books about Arthur - but there was a great Mary Stewart trilogy which started with Merlin as a boy in the Crystal Cave. Wonder if i still have those books lurking in the darkest places on the bookshelves? - just off to look!
Welcome back Giddy
hope you had a great hols
never been to New Orleans, but sounds a lot of fun

Good afternoon JJat

Hope you,re all well
and had a very chocolate easter

sorry i haven't been around much
but in the middle of a Flat hunt for son

shall read around and catch up

Morning all.

How are we all today?

Whatever I have has gotten worse and I can barely talk and I now have a really tight chest and cough. I am going back to bed with lots of water. Haven't slept well as I got up twice with a very very dry mouth.

Hope you all have a good day - goodnight!
Oh no Nyannie
poor you, you've really had a tough 6 months with your health

Thanks for your good wishes - it has been tough and I am completely fed up!!!! Saw the Dr today - I have viral laryngitis. More inhalations, more water (I've had about 3-4 litres today) and if it doesn't clear by next week, see them again...

What part of London is your son looking in georgy? I love Fulham, Earls Court and Putney although my friend lives in Holloway and it is very handy - loads of buses going everywhere.

How did you get on in the garden augusta? My daffodils are coming up and the postman delivered some of my bulbs today. For the summer. Got lots of dahlias.

Feeling rotten so I'm back to bed.

Hopefully see you all tomorrow. Have a nice evening.

Oh nyannie, sorry to hear you're so poorly. Viral laryngitis sounds nasty.
Get well soon.

Sounds like you've been busy augusta, I bet your garden is beautiful. Cottage gardens are so pretty but I like to keep things easy for myself (I'm a lazy gardener) . My beds are full of evergreen shrubs, ornamental grasses and ferns. Even my trees are evergreens. I do push the boat out with pots in the spring which I fill with geraniums, pelargoniums and trailing plants.

Your right though I'm sure we were planting out by this time last year. The birds seem to have spring fever so maybe spring is just around the corner.

So sorry to hear that you're ill Nyannie, and hope you feel much better soon. Maybe spring will finally arrive and perk you up - here's hoping.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome home. I'll try to get some of the more exciting moments of the 'Plague, Pestilence and Contusions Tour' written very soon - yep - it was - er - interesting at times

At the moment, I'm trying to catch up with all sorts of crisis that seem to have happened in my time away, including playing with the insurance company and the police as my house was burgled when I was away. The diamonds, the rubies, emeralds, sapphires - the ropes of pearls - the Patek Phillippe watch collection - none of them were here when I got home. Yeah, OK - they weren't here when I left either...
More nuisance than life-shattering - just jewellery targeted, and I didn't have all that much. A fair bit of damage was caused by the break-in though - it seems my locks were too good (!) so door and window frames were mangled when they attempted to force them. Oh well, the insurance guys seem to be very willing to carry out the repairs, so I'm hoping for the best. Might invest in an alarm though. Yeah - I know - stable door -bolted horse. Oh- and take photos of valuable jewellery,

I'm glad the cat was safe in the cattery - she'd have been terrified if I'd left her in with a friend doing the necessary for her. And she'd have got out through the forced window. So it could have been worse

Oh - have you noticed there's a 'Hottest BB Housemate poll going on on the main forum? - I think they need to get the correct result this time...

Can't sleep so thought I'd look at the thread.

So sorry Giddy about the burglary. I wonder if they had been watching the house. It is horrible to realize that someone has been through your personal space and property.

Like you I don't have much jewellery, but each piece means something to me. Horrible.

Hope everything gets sorted soon and that we will hear about Giddy's Adventures in the Big Easy. Look forward to it.

but apart from all that.... was the holiday worth it?

Actually its quite scary to hear of something like that, I do wonder how they knew that you were away, to force all the locks and doors? They must have caused quite a bit of damage.

The basic tidy of the garden is done, but its bitterly cold here again today, with flecks of snow in the air. Ive got daffodils and crocus trying to flower. If spring is 6 weeks behind, how is this going to affect summer and autumn flowers and the crops? Everything is going to end up all higgledy piggledy. :If Autumn comes early and hard we arent going to have any good weather at all....

I need to go and find a geography book to find out what the weather is like with a continental climate.

We watched Jonathan Creek on iplayer last night. what a clever and enjoyable story.....somewhat implausible .....but then they often are.

It was a relief from the LOTR saga. whose clever idea was it to schedule it over the entire easter break???

Any luck with the flat hunting Georgy?

Morning all. Still can't sleep.

Now I have conjunctivitis! Just what I need. Will call the Dr this morning for an appt this afternoon or a telephone call to confirm. I really don't need this! Sorry, I'm feeling sorry for myself.

Did anyone else have snow showers yesterday? Doesn't look like it is going to get much warmer anytime soon.

Wonder how John is adjusting to his winter.

Afternoon nyannie

You fire away and feel sorry for yourself, I think you're entitled to! I feel much the same myself. My knee is very painful today - and what's worse, has that horrible feeling of being about to give way - so I think we're both entitled, really!

I just had to phone mum and tell her I can't get her shopping today, which felt awful, although I know that OH or daughter will take up the slack.......

Anyway had a great night out last night (hanging on to OH for support ). Had fish and chips in a private dining room in one of the colleges, to celebrate someone's retirement.....very enjoyable

Hope everyone's okay.

Have a good day all

Afternoon all....

well its cold but no snow flurries today...thankfully. Ive been cooking, trying to make an aubergine dish, and only managed to find aubergines at the last minute , on the market. Im not a great cook, so was feeling pretty worried that my main ingredient was going to be unavailable.!!! Im trying aubergines in a tomato sauce topped by cheese. plus of course sausages and mash for the non vegetarians.

Yesterday I made a cheesecake, im almost impressing myself !! Although it takes a lot of time and effort to do this cookery . I think I prefer eating out...

how is everyone feeling today?

Hi guys, hope you're all good in the hood.
I don't know about anyone else, but I for one am falling apart. Not viral laryngitis but some kind of a nose, ear, throat and chest infection. Oh yes, and conjunctivitis. I am now in bed reading the papers and my books and trying to recover in time for my dental appt on Monday. Only good thing is that I have time to recover in time for my trip to Paris!

Hope everyone else is enjoying this gorgeous sunny day.

Can I echo Lindy's suggestion that you come and meet us on the 1 June bblover, we meet for lunch and are usually in the same restaurant for tea. We have a great time too. We would love to meet you in person!

I love cheesecake! Was it baked? Love the aubergine dish too. I found a recipe for the Spanish kind. The Italians use mozarella cheese which makes it extra yummy.

Wish you were closer. My o/h is also not well - thank goodness for the freezer. Think we will have the last of the casserole and vegetable soup I made

Actually, augusta, I too prefer to eat out but both of us look a mess!

morning all.....yes the cheesecake was baked and was lovely, but a lot of work.....

I dont mind gardening, or cleaning, but have never been that keen on cookery.... I spose its good we are all so different.

bblover its lovely to see you around, how is everything going?

Its a beautiful sunny day here, and im just back from the famous Jimmys farm. which is near us.....Its good to see the occasional success story, I just love the irony that he has a farm to save Essex rare breed pigs, in Suffolk.

Sounds wonderfully relaxing Augusta!

I'd love to live either by the sea, or in a city.......small towns just don't inspire me at all

I'm reading Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler.....massively character driven, really enjoying it so far
