You do need to be sensible. Good luck in your new closer to home job.

I wish we had Sky to watch Game of Thrones. First series was on a Freeview Channel but I came in mid-way through the series. I am now addicted to Border Control/Security - very interesting - Australia and Canada seem much tougher than the UK.

Morning all.

Hope everyone is well.

Have cancelled my trip to London tomorrow. Don't want the hassle of trying to get places. Will have lunch with a friend and then go to the garden centre with her.

We have an Arts Trail this weekend so will be going with a friend. Hopefully my o/h will want to go to the Glassblowers on Sunday.

Well, must get going. Taking another friend out to lunch for her birthday and must do some housework before I go.

To be honest, sometimes I wish I were working!

Very misty here.

Fun day ahead - washing floors, sorting out info for will and trying to get a roofer.

Have a good day all

so i,m going to read back
but might have to rush away
if youngest starts puking again

Sorry to hear about your buckets. They are the new thing and they can be used for all sorts of things in addition to using for sickness - floor washing, catching drips, soaking filthy clothes, using for bread to prove, planting tulips and broad beans, emptying bath water etc etc. The list goes on.

Ginger beer or ginger cubes (with sugar) in the baking section of supermarket are great for bad tummies - as is mint! Also rice with a little of the water left in it (old remedies which have worked for me).

Hope everyone feels better soon

Lots of lovexxxx

Absolutely agree with you - it took my neighbour 2 hours to walk to work from the train station - she couldn't get on a bus and she couldn't get a cab. Glad I cancelled. She is now walking back to the train station and I am off to feed her dog as she doesn't know what time she will get home. . .

The difficulty is that this may start a precedent and other houses will be able to extend increasing plot density.

Think you and your neighbours should make pains of yourself and call the council and the HSE (dust and noise). You must keep a diary of start and stop times. You must also complain (both by telephone and in writing) to the council about the dust - it can exacerbate asthma etc. When we had a huge development being built my asthma got so bad I was hospitalized twice. I got compensation and the builders had to do special measures to minimize dust. It was a nightmare.

I wish you luck - and do find out the working hours.

One final thing - did anyone object to the development?”

They have boarded the whole plot up, no real objections to the development, we are a private road, and they have followed all planning and road rules,

the house will look nice and sit well in a very large plot, its just the working hours
the road committee has had a word with them, but i think i will keep a record as you suggested, they seem to be stretching the times, that they are allowed to work a bit
and you were right they can only work until 1 on a Sat, still not ideal, but so
much better than all day.

thanks for you help nyannie

Sickness can be horrible, hope you all end up feeling ok...

I don't know how I feel about the tube strikes.....luckily it doesn't affect me, and I don't really know why they are doing it in any case?

Was it a beautiful sunny day where you were? It was here and its amazing how sunshine can lift your spirits...

You are very welcome. I still can't believe that they can start work at 7 am though. They are also not allowed to work Bank Holidays.

Very good idea to keep a diary. Even if it is 5 minutes longer, you should complain. Also monitor dust etc. My asthma was so bad during the building works across the road - I got compensation. Go straight to your district/borough council as parish councils can't do anything about it.

Off to see Nether Winchendon today - have to catch a train a bit later.

Have a lovely day all.

so we are back to the rain....well the garden was getting just a little bit dry!!

I see the forecast is miserable for the entire weekend? We wanted to go out to Kentwell Hall at the weekend, we will just have to see what the weather is like.

The gas fireplace man is due to come tomorrow to discuss replacing the gas fire....how much will this cost us? I hope you get the roofers sorted out ok nyannie.

So somehow Peaches Geldof seems to have been just like her mum and died from some kind of heroin overdose/complications...which is just so dreadfully sad. I used to really like Paula Yates, who was so funny on TV and the Big Breakfast, and thought she died far too young. addiction/recreational drugs are just so scary....

Morning augusta, yes I'm looking forward to the bank holiday, o/h has four days off instead of his usual three day weekends.

The only downside is that everyone seems to go mad in the supermarkets - went shopping at 1pm yesterday and there was hardly anything left in the fresh departments or the soft drinks and snacks.

I imagine a rugby scrum at 7am when the doors open is the only answer.

Hope the weather is ok wherever you all are this weekend, sun is shining down here barely a cloud in the sky.

Have a good one everybody.

Hope you're all feeling better now georgy and you can put those buckets to good use elsewhere.

So sorry about Liverpool, I'm still routing for them.
I couldn't bear it to see that smug Mourinho win the premiership, he is such an arrogant ****.

Afternoon all.

Just got back from the local Arts Trail - so many talented people. Weather glorious so my friend and I had a cup of tea in an artist's garden. Fabulous.

Need to pot up some plants that just arrived - and plant out some new ones. Also need to sort out wills and tidy up the study - which looks like a hurricane hit it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I know what you mean Lena about the supermarket. A friend and I decided to go yesterday morning so we wouldn't have to go in the afternoon. Well, after circling the car park for over 20 minutes we decided to give it a miss. Went in the afternoon with my o/h and NO ONE was there! What I did notice is that people were buying enough to outlast a siege for over a year. Could not believe it - the supermarkets are open every day throughout the holiday!!!!

its odd how the siege mentality seems to hit at bank holidays........I need to really reduce the amount I buy at the shops, I go through phases.......at times I can be quite sensible and just buy what I need, and then at other times, I tend to be the one buying things just in case and ending up with far too much food, which I then end up just throwing out...

its ridiculous

We went to see a local theatre version of Blood brothers , yesterday with most of the cast from the west end show, and it was brilliant, however a bit spoilt by the sound quality. Ipswich Regent theatre is in an old converted cinema, and the sound quality isn't that good in there, the building itself tends to distort everything....

and I think I have found out, after grass cutting, that I have become increasing allergic to grass, my arms where I emptied out the grass box are covered in a rash......not much fun.....I think I need a special lotion?

have a lovely weekend everyone xx

I never understand this shopping for the bank holiday thing,
all going mad
and that goes with Christmas to really,
the shops stay open most of the time now
i think Christmas day is the only day they are not open.

As for food, we go through so much and waste a lot also,
i,m always buying yogurt the muller ones at least 30 a week and as for fruit

not sure i can help with the rash except for a antihistamine cream, but nyannie will have
the answer, but a freshly mowed lawn is a wonderful thing, the smell and all neat
and trim

have a good day Augusta x
