my tumble dryer is singing ....you turn it on and it sounds like you are making that sound with a glass full of water.....O/H says the bearing has gone....and needs replacing...a spare part is on its way from amazon...

Me again! Hope you've all had a good day. I am gradually getting back into the swing of things after our break in Kent and also of course, the major decision we made about not moving house. OH says I look like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders

Mum is still no better (well, she won't be ) but at least with no house move to contend with, I can focus my attention on her a bit more. We did a crossword today from a cheap Tesco book, and sadly she could barely get 4 or 5 out of the 25 clues. Not like mum at all , but I do enjoy spending time with her and getting what quality of life we can

Hope the job hunting and jewellery making are going well Augusta, and that OH is recovering well Georgy. And that you are feeling better nyannie

Hope everyone is having a good day. Was supposed to go out today but had to cancel as the washing machine repairman is coming - hate it when they tell you anytime between 8 am and 2 pm!

Must get going as need to clear out utility room so that when repair people are finished I can wash the floor! Such an exciting life I lead

oh lindy you sound so much more cheerful... Life has a habit of throwing so much at us at times. !!

I have had a catch up day again......visiting mum and dad, shopping, cleaning etc....


And the highlight of the day was seeing the heavens open and sheet rain fall down for half an hour or so.......fascinating.......but I was glad I wasn't walking in it..!!

Well, washer/dryer has packed up and repair will be almost £200! O/H of course thinks repairman is diddling us. Well, I am NOT going to wash his shirts by hand so he can run out of clothes. We don't have a clothes line or anything outside so washing sheets makes it very difficult by hand or without a drying element. He will NOT let us order the part and I can't afford it on my own.

To cap it off, our windows are now requiring more work so it will be about £1000 a window.

I want to move back to a flat in London where I didn't have to worry about repairs etc.

FED UP!!!!!!

At least I am going to London with a friend tomorrow.

Hi to one and all, trust you are all well and enjoying some fine weather at last.

Last Friday turned out to be an eventful day down here.

First I reminded o/h that our changeover day for fibre optic broadband was Wednesday (today) and that we still hadn't received the router. Thought it was getting a bit close especially as it was unlikely to arrive over the weekend, so he rang BT.

He rang them only to be told that HE HAD cancelled the order!! This of course he hotly disputed, they said they hadn't received the MAC number and so therefore it had been cancelled. He had actually rung it through and spoken to someone on Easter Saturday. He spent an hour on the phone being passed from one idiot to another, having to repeat the whole story four times until he was so furious he told them he'd had enough. Needless to say there is now a letter on it's way to the Chief Exec's office. If some pi**ock at BT suddenly discovers our MAC number today and uses it, resulting in our Sky broadband being disconnected I will not be responsible for my actions. In the meantime we are checking out Sky's fibre optic to see what they can offer.

It's been very windy down here and as a result nearly got decapitated on Friday when the hatch on the car came down across the back of my neck as we were putting the shopping in the boot. It was a double whammy, the outside hit my neck and the inside bit whacked me on the side of my head. Good job I've got a hard noggin no damage done - well not to me anyway lol.

My son has spent the last seven months restoring and rebuilding a VW camper, including everything under the bonnet (or in this case the boot as the engine is in the back) . He booked it into diesel specialists for it's MOT and also asked them to check it over as it was running a bit lumpy.

He drove it there Friday morning (first time off the drive in seven months) and left it with them to collect it on Monday. He got a call just after five - "It's not good news I'm afraid." Bracing himself he asked what was the problem? "Our mechanics took it out for a test run on the dual carriage way and some idiot in a white van came straight out of a junction and hit your van!"

He's been to see it, damage is fairly superficial, bumper, lights and panels on passenger front side all bent and broken right up to the windscreen and the door won't open, but main structure is thankfully ok. Biggest problem is whether the idiot's insurance company will decide the cost is prohibitve and want to write it off. He's already been on ebay, sourced and bought a panel that is no longer available. He's going to ring the garage in a minute to get an update.

Then finally just to finish the end of a perfect day (oh how I miss the 'rolls eyes' smilie) my laptop has eaten yet another battery and the red cross has appeared and it no longer holds it's charge. I'm not buying another for a bit I'll just have to plug it in. I use the Kindle now for a lot of stuff anyway.

Now I've got that lot off my chest I shall have a look back on what I've missed.

Nyannie I hope you had a good day up in London. I feel for you re repairs for white goods....I am helpless without my OH, and he can be so frustrating at times. Im sure your windows/roof will get sorted eventually.... There has to be someone out there that can do it.

lena, your poor son, after all that effort, but there must be different rules for classic cars surely, or some of the really old ones couldn't be on the road? I love the early VW cars and camper vans, the guy who designed them had a real sense of style. Classic styling somehow appeals almost universally. maybe it mirrors something natural in some way?


I must find out whether I am a night owl or a lark.....I used to be a night owl...now I just need loads of sleep!!!

But its SATS week and we were talking today about how many 11 years olds are now stressing over these tests, and of course their teachers and schools. What are we doing with our schools.?

Its not as if in the long term there are even that many interesting and reasonably well paid jobs out there for kids to do when they come out of school...So what difference do all these grades make? wouldn't it be better to support happy and well adjusted kids who enjoy life, rather than kids who are unhappy if they don't achieve a level 4 when they are 11,

What an awful couple of days!!! Hope everything is sorted out asap for you. My mother used to say every knock is a boost, but there comes a time when you can't take any more knocks.

Thank goodness you are OK and that no one was hurt in your son's car. I cannot imagine how he feels - all that work. . .

London was great except that I think it is time to see Orthopaedic Surgeon again. The pain in my right ankle is excruciating every time I put weight on it and I am still wearing the ankle brace when I have to do a lot of walking. Whoever said getting old was the golden years must have been very young indeed. I hate it!!!

Well, I have had laundry soaking in Biotex since last night so best get it washed. O/H still refuses to get the part for the washing machine - tomorrow launderette - towels, sheets and jeans. Don't want to impose on neighbours.

Sorry your ankle is bad, it's so annoying when your body won't keep up with your brain, isn't it? ( I have had some of that, too, as you know). I comfort myself by keeping my brain as active as possible ( as you do), so then I can hope at least one part of me may work!!!

Re the washing machine......could OH do his own laundry, as he won't buy the part?

I know augusta, but it gets to be slanging matches - he is an 'engineer' as he never ceases to tell me so he has to have a look at it before he convinces himself he can't fix it. In the meantime, my cousin and her husband are coming to stay and I will have lots of sheets and towels to wash and dry. We don't have a clothes line and my little dryer (the one you get in Robert Dyas) is now full of socks and undies and three of loathesome other half's shirts.

Really fed up. I really am in a lot of pain at the moment but I get no sympathy - all I get is 'it is your own fault, it is the way you walk. . .'

Well, frustrating day. O/H seems to be right about washing machine - solenoid valve (whatever that is) isn't working. He is trying to fix it now.

Think I told you that my foot was bothering me. Well, after 3 1/2 hrs on the phone - nothing has progressed. Evidently Aviva has now added another layer of bureaucracy and instead of giving the patient the OK to see approved physios - you now have to call Nuffield Clinics (another person to talk to). Well, instead of being able to see the physio I used 7 months ago who I have confidence in - they have offered the physio whose manipulation was so aggressive I was in pain for 3 weeks - she had manipulated me so that I was crooked. She actually admitted she was too aggressive. So will go and see the Dr for a referral.

Really fed up. We pay a fortune for the private health insurance and it has become more and more bureaucratic - seems like we are paying for a administration rather than actual care. No flexibility at all.

oh nyannie how frustrating about your foot. they keep telling us we should have a choice, then they cant meet their promises.

tonight is my dads birthday so we are going out for a special meal...the only problem is I need to think of a token present for him......next stop... the shops.... I have no real idea what I am going to get him...but I don't think he is really that bothered..
