Evening all.
Just had a lovely lunch with some friends. We have planned a trip to London and a really good lunch!!!!! My sinuses are really playing up and I have had a headache for three days. The medication prescribed brought me out in a rash. Will have to go back and get referred to ENT. What a performance. Augusta, your mother's present sounds beautiful. I am sure she will love it. I have been amusing myself looking at photos which others have posted for our high-school reunion. Really wish I were going. Have made a ribolatta for dinner which really tastes good if I have to say so myself. Have a lovely evening. I know what you mean about long lasting headaches, not much fun at all.. I love working, but still have to get used to lazy days at the start of the week and then busy busy busy at the end....xxx |

Morning all
How are we all? Just off to the gym and yipee I won't have to take a bus home. O/H is home and is going to do the carpet washing. I spent yesterday scrubbing floors, cooker and bathrooms, looks great but I know I will h ave to do it all over again. I liked your story about Christopher georgy. I really hate intolerance of any kind. I grew up in NYC until I was 10 and then we moved to a very small village. We had black, white, chinese children and loads of different religions, yet we all played together and were friends. Never thought about colour or religion. We are friends to this day. Anyway, Have a good day and see you later and thats the way it should be, all playing together , growing up in NY must of been amazing, such a fantastic city ![]() been so busy , people have been in and out of the house, the gardeners are trimming the hedges and getting the garden put to bed for the winter ![]() have also tried my hand at a little bit of decorating, just the wash room, so i can't do to much damage, with my paint brush ![]() hope you are well

that is such a sad story, I much prefer the idea of children from all backgrounds being encouraged to play together, there are some lovely ideas from organisations like the United Nations to encourage children to understand what the lives of other children around the world are like.
There are some lovely multicultural schools in some of the big cities, but its so difficult at times to balance the needs for multiculturalism with the desire for academic success. ![]() I keep hearing such ....biased views of the political situation in the middle east, It seems very difficult to discuss this completely rationally or fairly. So its easier to avoid it on the news. War and death are never easy to discuss. ![]() I think older daughter might have got a job back where she went to uni, so she might get to go and move out . It will be lovely for her, I want her to be able to move on, but its just so difficult to achieve, I don't mind her living here in some ways, previous generations and communities manage mixed ages and multi-generational families, but it requires a level of compromise and co operation that isn't normal in todays generally selfish society!! Hope your daughter gets the job, i think its also hard for them to move back, they just get use to doing their own thing, then they have to remember to show consideration, or to ring if they want feeding or that they're not coming home and are out for the night

It is hard to know what to get as a present isn't it, I have made my mum a brooch from silver, it has a fish on it, for a specific reason, I had great fun making it, I will try and take a photo of it, but im finding it difficult to take a decent photo of jewellery as its so small, I don't know how they do it for magazines etc, or at least I do know in theory, a special camera, loads of lights and so on. but I don't really have this!
My mums birthday is on Monday!! ![]() a lot of the jewellery catalogues we receive, the jewellery is photographed on a black or white surface, but it is so hard to get the true beauty of the pieces, the shine and sparkle

evening all, daughter did get the job, only issue is that now, its not going to be quite enough of a salary to easily afford rent. So she still wants a bit of extra support.
Its so hard, cos im so torn, she should be by now able to stand on her own feet, but it is so expensive and so difficult for kids today, when on earth is it going to end? lovely family birthday meal today, I think it went well......but I am now cross after a row with OH on the way home, why do some days end like this? I think the trouble is I am tired and not that tolerant, and just wanted to be able to park my car, easily. but his car was parked too far over and I couldn't get mine in. And his response was to tell me to learn to park better....not a good answer !!!!!

That really sounds like a nasty reaction to your medication, hope you get it sorted
soon. Pleased you had a lovely lunch and what is a ribolatta, i think google is about to be my friend, of to look it up ![]() Check out Food Network UK, Barefoot Contessa/Ina Garten and look at her recipe for ribolatta. I use the Knorr Stock capsules which are really good and intense. I didn't have croutons, but crusty walnut bread with butter. It is great and you can chuck in lots of leftover veg. I also use her Italian wedding soup and leek and potato soup (I use vegetable stock). Let me know how you get on. |

Evening all
What a journey!!!! Went to London to meet a friend for lunch. Four hour delays on my usual line so had to schlepp to the Waterloo line which cost a fortune in cab fares and took an hour to get to Richmond where I had to change for the tube. Got home about an hour ago and am I glad! Why oh why are there so many signal problems on First Great Western Lines. Off to have a cup of tea! Lamb cutlets tonight with dauphinoise potatoes, carrots vichy and beans! I am NOT cooking!!!! |

Evening all.
Just took me 10 minutes to log into DS. Don't know what the problem was. Quiet day spent cooking and reminiscing with old classmates about Woodstock! I really wish I could go to my reunion. Still, one of my classmates who lives in Switzerland may be coming over to London in early December. Have a good evening all. |

Georgy I love the idea of using old fashioned cleaning things, I love things like Ajax, which must be similar, only trouble is getting hold of the ingredients.
did you just mix everything into a paste, baking soda, lemon and vinegar? and then dilute it with water or use it neat? If you have natural materials I think they are brilliant. So who is ready for the bake off final tonight? I m looking forwards to it. strange windy and rainy day here, autumn weather has hit with a vengeance. |

Hello dear JJAT, I am back from hols
![]() Glad to see everyone seems okay ( from a quick skim, that is). Very sad story about your son on the plane, Georgy And yes, I was furious about that Everton goal! ( I am like the official sports reporter on hols, always checking my phone for results and letting everyone know how the football / Andy Murray / F1 etc are going.... )We had a great time by the way, walked more than I thought I could !!! And saw lots of art, architecture, etc, ate good food and relaxed by the sea ![]() Got back late on Monday and on Tuesday spent all day celebrating mum's 93rd birthday ( coffee morning in her sheltered housing, lunch out, etc) Then today another resident was 100 years old so that was another party! Wonderful elderly lady, never married, very sharp mentally, and she coped with all the fuss admirably. The most tear- jerking part was when approx 80 children came in from the local primary school to sing to her and to clap out 100, followed by cheers. There wasn't a dry eye in the house! ![]() So, now back to what passes for real life.....got a flu jab on Saturday, dinner out on Friday, and a huge list of chores to be completed!! I may be gone some time.....![]() All the best everyone ![]() Lindy xx |

Less abrasive than silver polish. Make sure you wash your silver in warm water with a drop or two of Fairy Liquid and use a very soft cloth to dry it. I also use soda crystals in my drains once a month - makes everything nice and fresh. Thanks for your recipe. I have been using vinegar to clean kettles and take limescale off our taps. Terrific! What did you think of Bake Off? Last edited by nyannie : 09-10-2014 at 14:19. Reason: don't want my name on the thread |

Enjoyed Bake Off and thought the right person won. When I asked myself, "if I had to eat only one person's baking for a year, whose would it be?", the answer was definitely the person who won ( not putting the name in case anyone hasn't seen it yet
) xx

) xxI loved bake off as well, and agree the best person won. Werent the viewing figures amazing. so many people watched, maybe we all just want a bit more gentle light entertainment? I think my favourite part was the way the winner was almost a surprise, they filmed it in such a way that it was wide open, even though looking back she was the best cook almost every week. |

Oh georgy, hope you are back soon. We had one enormous bolt of lightning last night - we'd gone to next door for a curry delivery. O/H thought it was an artillery shot. We quickly turned everything off. Never have heard anything like it!
Been busy looking at email bios from all my high-school classmates. Every time I open my email there is another bio. Really sad I couldn't attend it. I just hope we keep in touch after this. Unlike the rest of you I wanted Luis or Richard to win Bake-Off. Why bother with all the eliminations if the result was only based on the final tests? It should have been cumulative. You don't graduate university or school just based on one set of exams? Anyway, hope everyone has a good weekend. |

how was your holiday Lindy?
Hope you get your phone sorted out georgy I thought that actually Nancy did pretty well in a lot of the bake off challenges, she was someone who on a couple of occasions I thought was under marked, she consistently was in the top 3 for most challenges, Richard was the best baker, but she was one of the best at making cakes, but she was usually picked out for silly mistakes like rising the bread in the microwave, and her triumphs were glossed over. I think this was partly deliberate to make it more of a competition. As I watched I remember I ended up wondering why the pretty and flamboyant ones were mentioned, when she wasn't? Especially during the challenge where Richard copied her completely for a technical! Any how........Just back from a showing of the film Gone Girl , what a fascinating film, the book was brilliant, full of twists and turns and the film was good as well. |

Afternoon all.
I'm really happy! George Clooney and his wife are living about a kilometre away from me! Cannot believe it. Neighbours saw him in the pub and other neighbours saw him at the petrol station which is at the top of our road (OK you have to turn right and walk a bit). Even better - Roger Federer won the Shanghai Open. Unbelievable!!!! Must go as I am making an apple pie with both Granny Smiths and eating apples. Thank goodness for frozen pastry. Afraid I'm no Master Baker. Have a good day all. |
