I enjoyed Broadchurch very much, beautifully acted. Sadly I was right about the Miller family. As soon as Ellie asked the question, "How could you not know?" I knew it would come back to bite her.

I too was a little disappointed. For some reason that I couldn't put my finger on I picked Joe as the killer by the second episode. I couldn't get over how they never really questioned the son (who supposedly was the dead boys best friend) and unless I was asleep never really queried where the £500 had come from or the fact he had two mobile phones.

I know it made good tv but would they really allow the boys father to speak to the killer whilst in police custody? I think not.

Did you know Lindy that there's an extra scene of Danny's wake floating around on YouTube? Seems a strange thing to do, unless it's a bit that hit the cutting room floor.

Intrigued there's a second series, presumably with new police officers.

If nothing else the series has done wonders for tourism in the area apparently.

Absolutely loving Endeavour, that hasn't disappointed yet.

Wonder how nyannie is? I hope she's having a terrific time.

I'm sorry to have been disappointed by Broadchurch. I do feel let down.....and I deliberately avoided the clip of the wake...I felt that was a bit tricksy, to be honest

I don't think there was enough explanation / portrayal of the Joe / Danny relationship. And there were very few clues that it could be Joe, until that give-away remark last week, the 'How could you not know?' one We weren't shown anything of them together, we didn't know how Joe had a key to the hut, etc.
Still, the acting was amazing (it had to be to cover the script). I don't think I'd have watched it had Olivia Coleman and David Tennant not been in it. Thought Joe and Mark were excellent last night too ...

Anyway, rant over Beautiful acting and scenery, passable script, might sum it up.

Hope nyannie is enjoying Paris - how could she not be?

1st BIB You didn't miss much, it was a real mish mash as if they were trying to tie up loose ends. If it was originally filmed for the final episode I'm not surprised it was cut.

My nephew and his little family are sunning themselves in Barbados at the moment (not that I'm jealous or anything) he posted a pic of the view of the ocean from their bedroom window on fb...absolutely stunning. I would never come home.

Off to search the net for a new dvd recorder as my one's become temperamental in it's old age.....a bit like its owner.

Im just back from the dentist, sore but .....im sure it all will be worth it in the end.

After a shaky start it has been a lovely day here, and its amazing how much sun seems to lift everyones spirits and cheer everything up.


only one more day to go until the weekend. Thats when I will be dipping into the wine, I bought a lovely bottle of Rose today.

But it is nice to hear what everyone else is up to.

It's a nice sunny day here I must remember to get out more and soak up the rays even though I've always been an indoors-y sort of person

Not long now til the weekend.....

So.....the possibility of a new job has come up. Just 16 hours a week, working from home, with lots of outreach work......but only approx £10 per hour. The work I do now is better paid, but less routine..... So the question is, have I reached a point where I should just go for a 'little job' that would net about £500 a month, or do I still have the energy and enthusiasm to carry on what I'm doing now??

Will draw up the usual pros and cons list over the weekend.....

b) feeling my age, so I would go for the part time job... Unless you really need the money?

Talking of money....which I kind of was, I have almost got enough money to start to get my teeth fixed and some of the gaps filled in, Caused by only having baby teeth and having really soft teeth, and not looking after them properly as a child...

But it is going to be an expensive business, and Im a bit scared about spending that amount of money on myself when there are other things we or my kids need.


I hadnt realised how dental charges had crept up so much. I remember being at uni and being astonished at the teeth of a fellow student who had got married and lived in eastern europe. Her teeth were awful. But I can see the same kind of thing happening here, with so few national health dentists.

How are we all today? Shame the sun hasn't lasted into the weekend.

O/h is in garden brandishing a concrete breaker, bemoaning at how well he put the fence post in over twenty years ago.
The strong winds we had before christmas sheared the metal holder it was in at ground level. At least it gives us a chance to replace the rest of the fence with featherboard instead of the panels.

I shall cheer him up with his favourite cheese on toast and OK fruity sauce for lunch. Might even indulge in some of that myself.

I echo augusta Lindy, I thought you were supposed to be retired. Part time sounds like a good idea to me too.

O/h asked at work yesterday about going part time. Has to fill in a form and they take it from there. Time scale seems to be around christmas, hope for our sanity it's before then.

Still searching for a dvd recorder as I want one that can be unlocked so it plays multi region discs. I have quite a few discs from the US which are region 1.

Is it nyannie's last day in Paris today? I hope she's had a lovely time. Looking forward to hearing all about her trip.

My teeth are a constant battle too augusta. When my second teeth came through the front ones only had patchy enamel on them. By the time I was seventeen the front four were crowned and eight years ago I had the canines done too. My original ones were lovely, porcelain with gold backing, done by my boss at the time. No one believed they crowns they were so natural looking. Sadly they had to be replaced about eight years ago (done on the nhs) and they're not nearly as nice.
I would love to have them replaced again by my lovely private dentist I have now, but I'm not sure I could face all those hours in the chair again and I dread to think what the cost would be.
I do have insurance which helps towards the bills each year, just as well as some of my old fillings are coming to the end of their shelf life so to speak.

I guess the issue is that the less routine work is not only better paid, it's more interesting I have been a workaholic all my life and stopping now feels a bit like no longer being myself Even though I know it makes sense really.....

Wish I were an academic, it would probably be easier to carry on work like writing.....

I think im going to have to look into this insurance business. I do have a basic policy that covers check up etc, but im not sure what else might be covered? It might be worth checking it out.

Its a beautful sunny day here, maybe I should be out in the garden clearing out the weeds.....I dont think theres much point planting anything much out yet, as we are still getting frost in the mornings.

My husband and my dad were total workaholics .......dad did manage to cope eventually with being retired.


I think perhaps this is part of the reason why im not !!! Ive always thought its important to get a good balance between work and home life, and to remember its not only about paid work......Half of my life seems to be taken up with household chores, cleaning and food shopping, Which is hard if I work full time. My life couldnt cope with 2 workaholics in it !!


I can see what you mean about doing something you are interested in,.........a lot of people dont seem to be retiring at all now.

Supposed to be doing MiL online supermarket shop, but thought I'd just pop in to see if there was any news.

Caught up on Ben Fogle's new series today, about leaving the rat race and living in remote places. The first one was about a business man that lost his 6.5million fortune in one day during the crash back in the 80's. He went to live on a remote island with only his dog for company near the Great Barrier Reef and now all these years later faces eviction. Fascinating story and the setting simply breathtaking.

Off to sort out that shopping list and then catch Il Divo in concert on Sky Arts. My guilty pleasure.

My dad was a workaholic too. My husband definitely isn't, which of course enables me to be one . I agree that a balance is needed, both for individuals and within a family....it's getting that balance right that I find difficult. I really find it hard to keep calm...for instance I just heard a news item about Iain Duncan-Smith suggesting that well-off pensioners return their benefits, and have winged off an email to him expressing my views

Actually if I were really well off and not just comfortable (and grateful for it), I'd become one of those people who 'works' more or or less full time in a voluntary capacity. Does that count as work??

Anyway, enough of that. Am really looking forward to nyannie's return and hearing all about her adventures. Hope she had a fantastic time

Had a fabulous time in Paris - but very very very expensive!!! Our hotel was so handy to everything but try as we might it was impossible to get into Notre Dame - queues were ENORMOUS - even at 8 am. We did see two very interesting churches, one near the Luxembourg Gardens where the Da Vinci Code was filmed and St Cecilia near the Pantheon where Blaise Pascal was buried.

I could go on and on but let's just say I want to go back. Giverny was sensational!

I see everyone has been busy. Lindy, why not take 6 months off and then decide what you want to do. I have had these 15 hour a week jobs which turn into more like 30. Personally I think you should take a break - travel, read, take care of yourself - for 6 months and then decide what you want to do. You could take a course , learn a new skill - and just spend some quality time with your nearest and dearest. I am usually so busy I don't have time to indulge.

No news from John I see. We met loads of Aussies - most of them from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Most were travelling for about 3 to 6 months and we met two couples who were living in the UK.

I also came back with yet another cold so I'm going back to bed.

Just had a browse to see the top ten most expensive cities in the world for 2013. The study showed the cost of living relative to New York. Paris came in 8th, beaten by Melbourne and Sydney which came in 4th and 3rd respectively. Japan was the most expensive. Interesting to note that NY and London didn't make the top ten.

Wonder how much you earn working in a surf shop? I know my niece and nephew stock up on clothes when they visit here from Melbourne, especially my niece who comes with only half a case of clothes.

Off to put another load of washing out on the line. This sun is turning into a bit of a novelty.
