My course on the British Empire is fascinating.- and the comments terrific. Really learning lots - and it only takes a few hours a week. I have also started reading some of the recommended reading.

Went to London to do some Christmas shopping at Selfridges. Not crazy about the windows though. Off to London again tomorrow to see Photograph 51 with Nicole Kidman. Debating whether to take binoculars.

Well, best get going. Hope we hear or have a sighting of John. In the meantime, have a lovely day and keep warm and dry!”

Pleased you had a good time in Wales

Thanks for asking about my Mum, Nyannie
She hasn't been good, really unwell, which is why i haven,t been around much.
Looks like she has picked up a very nasty virus, but they are still waiting on some results,
she has picked up Today, but i've been spending a lot of time with her and keeping a watch on Dad. Hope the worst is over now, keeping fingers crossed xxx

p.s how was Nicole Kidman in Photograph 51 , i've heard mixed reviews from Friends

so it was an absolutely dreadful Friday 13th, those poor people in paris, absolutely no warning.

and the weather has been awful....there must be some good news somewhere!

Georgy I hope your mum is feeling better. its not much fun when people you care about are ill. .

Nyannie I hope the theatre was entertaining, you will have to tell us all about it. I have a delay on here at the moment, its odd I type at a normal speed, then have to wait a few minutes for it to appear onscreen, a bit like the old fashioned typewriters! So I need to log off now before it drives me to distraction!

Have a good weekend everyone. And maybe we will hear more a bout John James ...hopefully ...something nice to think about.

Photograph 51 was terrific. Nicole Kidman really should do more theatre. Rosalind Franklin is one of my scientific heroes. It was small-mindedness and selfishness - imo - why she wasn't a joint recipient of the Nobel Prize. If it hadn't been for her work, the structure of DNA might have taken many more years to be found.

I cannot believe the carnage in Paris. Truly unspeakable! Think the borders will be closed - or at least very much stricter - in the future.

May all those who perished, rest in peace.

Hope your mother makes a speedy recovery. I haven't felt right since I had my flu jab - achey, hot and cold and tired!!!!

Nicole Kidman was fantastic and the play very good and pacey. The cast got a 10 minute standing ovation!

Hi to everyone, I'm sitting here listening to the wind swirling round the house. The sound of the wind howling through the trees up on the ridge above us is deafening.
Hope you're all safe and secure where you are.

What terrible events in Paris, so very sad. The loss of all those poor innocent people so hard to comprehend. May they rest in peace.

It's time to put border controls back in place. I find it incredible that you can wander freely from country to country without any form of checks.

Just going to read back........

Good to hear you enjoyed yourself in Wales nyannie, shame about the weather.
It rained the entire week when we went there in October many years ago on a big family holiday.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling the best since your flu jab. I'm afraid a few people have told me they'll never have it again after it made them feel really rough, said they'd rather take the risk.
Your course sounds really interesting. I had a quick look .... quite fancy some of the environmental ones....just need some time to be able to do it.

So sorry to hear your Mum's been so poorly georgy, hopefully she's now on the mend.
How's Jurgen Klopp working out for you?? Did I see something about Owen returning, or was that just a rumour?
I actually will be relieved when Arsenal don't make it out of the group stages of the Champions League as they can then concentrate on the Premiership.

Your wish is my command augusta (wearing fairy godmother wings and waving magic wand) ...........had a look at John's twitter and apart from posting several 'arty' pics of himself (wonder who his photographer is) he's been on a road trip to NSW, posted another soundcloud and the big news.........he's on his way to the UK.

On that note I'm off to bed......night, night.

I,m liking Klopp, he makes me laugh , and i think we are playing better, which is something

I hope you're not right about Owen, i'd like him sacked from BT, what a boring commentator, his voice does my head in

Yep need to get knocked out of Champions league, i think you have real chance at taking the title this year

Morning! We didn't have snow, but we did have very heavy rain and lots of wind. Now we have sunshine and lots of wind.

Spent the morning doing my course - and an essay. In two minds as to whether to do it as we have had no input from the course organizers. Going to do one on Art Theft in February.

Still battling a cold. Taking it very easy but I've an ironing mountain to tackle so best go.

Have a good weekend everyone.

im here, wow this thread is still going on!! Its impressive after such a long time,

It would be great to see John again...so I hope we do find out more about him and his visit.

Work just seems to have been taking over at the moment, im almost enjoying it, except there is such a big disconnect between what is expected and what the children are actually capable of doing! I was talking to my supply agency who want me to work more sessions than I am, as there is such a massive shortage of teachers out there, willing to work.

I think maybe someone needs to take a reality check, and think, if the kids are over stressed and the teachers are overstressed and leaving the profession in droves, could there perhaps be something wrong?

Its like the junior doctors, its all very well to be told everything is absolutely fine, but it cant be if people are this upset about what it going on!!

So is everyone well under way with xmas preparations? I am trying so hard this year to be sensible, we are going to decorate after the 12th December. Usually I let the excited kid side of myself have full sway at xmas, especially when it comes to buying stocking bits for my girls, but... I have now realised their rooms are full of all sorts of useless bits and bobs that now need to go to a car boot sale or similar, so maybe I should just get one or two precious things they really want!

Christmas is such a strange time of year!!

To much stress on all concerned in the teaching profession , poor kids..... testing in nursery, junior , middle and senior....... when my two first went to school, the only thing i wanted to know was, did they play happily with others , were they polite and well mannered and happy to go, now it test .. test ...test ........ childhood is lost

I'm getting there now with Christmas, was so far behind, with mum being unwell, looking
forward to it now
I have not stopped shopping in the last few days, also had to help son with the girlfriends
gift ....... he wanted to get her a designer handbag .... and i know a lot about them

Morning!

We've had the saga of the washing machine too - had the repairman/engineer in 4 times. O/H then did a test and discovered we needed a new pump - for £10! Thank goodness he is handy. We could have bought a new machine for what the call-out charges were.

Look up FutureLearn. Loads of interesting things to study.

Well, that is the last Xmas present wrapped and posted. Cards ready and waiting to be posted on Monday.

I've just taken down the decorations and started to put them up.

Have a hospital appointment today for new orthotics! The clinic is so far behind that they are having a couple of Saturday clinics. Monday it is the rheumatologist. Then osteopath, then dentist - what a Xmas build-up!

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.
