Good morning, very, very, very long time no see. Hope you are all well.
![]() Things are slightly mad here and so far I'm struggling to find any positives in 2016. ![]() January saw the boiler and the car break down. ![]() February our enormous 8'x10' pergola with it's 5" posts did a bit of a shimmy in the storm before collapsing elegantly to the ground ![]() February also saw an incident involving a fire engine, ambulance and mother in law which we are not supposed to know anything about, except the family forget we live in spitting distance of her bungalow and when the trees are bare we have a perfect view of all the comings and goings. Not to mention our bedroom was filled with flashing blue lights!! It would seem we are officially out of the 'loop' because they know my o/h feels she should be in care. We've joined 'the dark side'. Oh and I got my regulation winter cold. March has seen my sister in hospital with pneumonia and a raft of tests and lung biopsies. She spent the first night on a bench in a mixed ward of dementia patients without a pillow or bedding!!! Are we living in the third world??? She was allowed home at Easter with strict instructions to rest. My son also saw the secure printing firm he works for issue redundancy notices to their staff on the printing side, they are currently in the final period of consultation with union and workers. He's pretty sure he's 'on the list', not least because they're axing the night shift. Now April and my sister was readmitted to hospital at the weekend with the diagnosis of a fungal infection in the lungs. She's currently being pumped with drugs via IV twice a day which takes three hours a time to go through. She's bored witless and been subjected to several rounds of musical beds. Apparently there are no TV's in hospital these days!!! There's the possibility she may be allowed home on Friday, I'm guessing that's emptying the place for the weekend. Am I getting even more cynical in my old age? ![]() On a positive note, it's less than five weeks to Il Divo concert. Yay!! I've been entertaining myself with Youtube clips from the first leg of the tour in Central and South America. Here's a little taster from the guys themselves, Il Divo as you've never seen them before! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXsUlS_mxZs

oh lena...your life sounds ......unenviable....
what a crazy series of events.....you somehow need to keep positive. there are so many awkward things happening at the moment, aging relatives, and hospitals forgetting how to care. ![]() I find the way time just disappears hard to cope with. And things like my darling dalmation has been diagnosed with some kind of kidney condition, we are awaiting the final diagnosis from the vets, but he has been put on a special diet and now needs an ultrasound scan. He seem perfectly fine, Im sure they can do incredible things, but...the cost....this food is 27 pounds for 12 cans and he has 2 a day. Its not a fortune, but...its not cheap either! What funny things can we look forwards to to take our minds off it all?

Oh Lena and augusta
What a catalogue of misfortune! What can I tell you to cheer you up - well, it is Spring and wonderful flowers and plants are sprouting, we have all lived through another day? There is going to be another series of GRANTCHESTER? Hmm Lena, I really hope everything becomes better. How awful about your sister. Let us hope they have now found the cause and are treating her so she will get well very soon. Your son sounds very versatile so I am sure he will find another job very very soon. I have neglected almost everyone but my O/H - been absorbed not only with my course, but with a planning appeal for the field next to us. Sly developer wants to put 25 houses at a time so he doesn't have to build social housing. I am just about finished so hope to get back to dealing with everyday matters. No news of John I see, but there you go. Will be back soon. In the meantime, try to keep positive! |

lets think about being positive.....
we are going to see the film Eddie the Eagle tonight, which should be fun, and its nice and warm and non muddy indoors. ..Im just back from the woods, which was very muddy and rainy, so its nice to be back indoors. So frustrating about the houses near you nyannie, at times there just doesn't seem to be that much logic to it. Yes we probably do need more houses for young people in their early 20s, but brand new houses in the countryside are probably way out of their league, and too expensive for the majority of them. We are also technically part of the London commute, and developers want to build houses near us mainly for this purpose, (which then in turn drives up the price of houses in London itself or in towns like Chelmsford or Brentwood, ) but its not actually that close, the A12 is a nightmare of a road to drive on, its just too busy so the roads are full of cars and lorries, all going too fast and this means far too many accidents which end up closing the road. and the cost of getting a season ticket is horrendous. its a strange world at times!! |

what beautiful day it has been here...so hot and sunny, just faintly surreal, the tulips are still out, its only may with blossom on the trees, and it feels like midsummer.....What else is the weather going to do this year??
are we going to have an early summer, and then august will be rainy..........I wonder what anyone else thinks? And if you get a chance to see the Jungle book....do so , its an impressive film...xxxx |

Hi everyone, I hope you are all ok whatever you may be doing.
![]() I have sadly neglected this thread with everything that has been going on. ![]() Latest news is that MiL was admitted to hospital three weeks ago, things looked bad initially. As my o/h and his elder brother have power of attorney they were asked about resuscitation. Anyway, true to form she's fought the infection but she's very up and down. She's eating and drinking very little and a little confused. She made her ninety sixth birthday three days ago which I'll be honest I didn't think she'd see. Where we go from here is unclear at the moment but I doubt she'll return home. My son is now officially redundant, well actually he volunteered as he felt he couldn't accept the new terms, hours and conditions (33% loss of salary is pretty hard to swallow) and it was time to move on. So now he's bought into a franchise (after a LOT of research), in the motor industry which has always been his first love. Van and equipment is on order, vat registered, his training is due to begin soon.......quite exciting really.....and he's champing at the bit. (Little horsey term there for georgy) ![]() My sister is also recovering well from her lung infection although it's going to be a long haul and they're concerned her immune system has not kicked in properly, she's beginning to feel like a pin cushion she's had so many blood tests. She's now my little 'skinny minnie' she's lost so much weight and at 4' 10" she's like a little doll. I feel like 'Miranda' compared to her, even though I'm only 5' 2". It's official by the way my rear is closer to the floor, I've shrunk 1.5" so now my 27" inside leg trousers drag on the floor! Now for the BIG news.......We went and saw Il Divo a couple of weeks ago and had the time of our lives!! ![]() I have all the CD's and DVD's but absolutely nothing prepares you for them LIVE!!! The sound was incredible as the orchestra started and played the overture you could feel it through the floor and then they appeared silhouetted against a flaming backdrop and Carlos with his rich baritone sang the opening lines of Besame Mucho and it literally reverberated through your seat. When he's in full throttle it's something to behold. Not gonna lie, if we were smitten kittens before it's full on love now. ![]() ![]() It was a fabulous show. Singing, dancing, playing instruments (Carlos and Seb on piano, Seb and Urs with guitars and David who learned the bandoneon especially for the tour) and lots and lots of humour. Pick-up lines, flirting with the audience, being single, getting old....they were hilarious. But the solos were something very special indeed. They chose songs that had special significance for them personally. Urs with his beautiful lyrical voice, sang Dein ist mein ganzes herz. Who knew he had such a powerful voice? Then Carlos (Mr Showman, he's been singing professionally since he was eight) got everyone clapping and swaying along to New York, New York (which he took from his one-man Vegas style show which he does when not with Il Divo) complete with dancing girls. Seb sang Edith Piaf's Hymne a l'amour while playing piano and to a backdrop of scenes from Paris, which had people in tears. I've heard Josh Groban sing this, but Seb was just incredible. But it was David that brought the auditorium to it's feet with Nessun Dorma (he comes from a purely opera background), there were tears and cheers in equal measure and he had a three minutre standing ovation! It was an amazing show (over two hours on stage), we had great seats (you could see the whites of their eyes) and I wish I could see it again. Just hoping they bring out a DVD of it (they say they're discussing it) so that we can re-live it all again. There are some great videos on Youtube so we're making do with that for now.

I too have neglected the thread but we've had health scares which never seem to go away and we've had a new en suite installed.
The en suite is beautiful but needs to be painted by o/h so I'm not holding my breath. US presidential candidates are dire - a madman or a crook. Think I will be writing someone in. On the positive side I've had lunch at the Ritz which was an experience - vintage cocktails which cost £250 and overpriced, mediocre food! Amazing experience though. Had afternoon tea at the Goring Hotel on Thursday which was wonderful. I so enjoyed it and saw a friend I hadn't seen in a while. Want to go again when I can afford it. Lena, Il Divo looked wonderful - I managed to see a couple of clips on YouTube. My Shakespeare course is wonderful and I want to do another. Hope everyone keeps well and happy. |

its good to hear from you nyannie and Lena.
Lena I can see why your year sounds awful....I hope things improve. I hope your sons business goes well. Its a strange time for work, especially for the younger generation. Where is the stability? The chance for a future career? The chance to buy a home and live comfortably? I spose it was ever thus, but.... growing up I hoped for a better future. I left university with the world at my feet, I could travel, work in a wide variety of jobs, without needing a 3 year degree to even enter them, and yet know if it all went wrong, there were benefits and council housing as a safety net there to use as well as the support of my parents. One of my daughters works in a shop and struggles...and unless she does something drastic this is what her life is always going to be like. My other daughter has a good job but is going to have big issues and huge expenses if she ever wants to own her own place. Their horizons are so much more constrained than mine ever were. It just feels such a shame. Money has become such an issue. As a child growing up the idea of the Good life or living off the grid, was a reality, I had friends who lived in squats as a temporary measure, and although I never did it, you could live comfortably for 6 months in London between jobs, before walking into another one. And the jobs weren't just in catering! The kind of student lifestyle portrayed in something like Rik Mayall and the Young ones. Where they were all independent of their parents, and the bank of mum and dad. Maybe its just my age, but I don't see that many young people being able to do that now. My dad is 81, and in and out of hospital constantly, he is strong and holding on...but at what cost? I really wouldnt want to get old like this. There are so many positives around me, its just hard at times as the negatives tend to drown everything else out! |

I hope they do manage a friendship. I think their friendship in the house was genuine , they certainly shared a similar sense of humour. I think they both faced a very stressful confusing and intense six months after leaving, I doubt many relationships could have survived the pressure.ni think they both reacted to their break up badly, and sadly often in social media. However I think they have both learned from that, they have both moved on and seem happy . I wish them both well

Agree with you Muggins - he does look good with his own hair. Don't know what he is doing now. I just watched the clip from Metro. Hope somebody puts it up on YouTube. Hope we now learn more about him. |
