Julianne Margolis - who plays Alesha comes from the village next to mine in NY. She is much prettier now than she was in ER although I loved her in that. I too love Nashville a bit more than The Good Wife but adore Thursdays as both are on.

What did Mr Parton tweet? I'm not on Twitter so missed it.

Just put my central heating back on - 4 degrees when I got up and it is only 6 degrees now. Think I will have to dig out my winter coat too!

Not quite sure what that tweet is meant to show....but...

is it serious or a wind up of some kind?..

cos im not sure if Is John saying he is the same as that kid who holds a party, without telling his parents... and isn't really that sorry afterwards for all the chaos and expense he has caused....

so that he is referring to himself as the one who everyone loves for holding an amazing and memorable street party,

or is he referring to someone else?

or maybe it is just funny, cos the 16 year old kid is such a fool.........and looks ridiculous in his sunglasses and yellow wig...

Personally, I think it is just funny. I never can figure out John's tweets!

morning....now is it going to be warm enough to put my geraniums out? I put them out a few weeks ago clearing off the window sill where they usually over winter. but had to bring them in again...Its a beautiful day ...maybe its safe to put them out again?

what is everyone up to?

We are due to go to Hampton court tomorrow....hope it doesn't rain too much. The Tudors and Ann Boleyn seem very popular at the moment as there is a series about them all on BBC2...It is a fascinating period, but the more I learn about it , the more variations of the story I find..

Good afternoon

Lovely day, and I'm just getting over my tummy bug too

I wanted to watch the Tudors / Thomas Cromwell programme, but the girls were home, so I ended up watching old Friends one night, and Big Bang Theory the next I'm getting to be quite a fan of the latter, as it happens!

Have a great day all

Hi Georgy

Would that be Ladies Day at Epsom? I expect you do need a new hat.......a lady's got to feel like a lady, after all!

I am feeling a lot better today, thanks, even planted up my little patio wall with antirrhinum s and lobelia. Stopped while I was ahead though, and have left the petunias etc for another day.

Looking forward to the docu about Australia tonight.....daughters both have interests there

Morning all.

I like wide-brimmed hats georgy - not so sure about feathers but I do like some of them that have things sticking out. Last time I wore a hat was when I got married. I love big hats. Hope you have a lovely time.

We went to Epsom and Ascot years ago. Remember picnics in the car park and seeing the Queen at Ascot. We even had good weather!

I've been watching Case Histories (taped the Scapegoat last night) and then saw a dramatization of the Nuremberg Trials. Very interesting. Nice to see Alec Baldwin in a serious part.

Anyone watching the French Open? Should be interesting today as Nadal and Djokovic take to the courts. Federer and Serena Williams demolished their opponents and poor old Leyton Hewitt is out in a very good match.

Well, must get washing and ironing. No rest for the wicked!

so daughters computer is now fixed.......

lindy I hope you are feeling much better ....its miserable when you don't feel well, although this sun does have the effect of cheering me up .......

Hampton court was interesting, but a long long way away, Its such a different world, the world of the Tudors, isn't it. And its so fascinating to see how Ann Boleyn and Thomas Cromwell are having their stories reinterpreted for a modern age.

Henry V111, was such a fascinating king, but this succession problem caused so much grief, although im not sure if this was the only reason, for the 6 wives.

Im still waiting now for the reinterpretation of Shakespeare's Othello, which I had to study for 6th form, and disliked ......Desdemona and Othello seemed to me to be fools for believing stories based on little or no substantial evidence. My favourite character was Iago, even though I knew it shouldn't be. I think reading Tudor novels that Iago was based on Walsingham and his spies, feeding knowledge to Elizabeth and her advisors...

So the play isn't just about Romantic love....its also about how a spy network can influence decisions based on some pretty slender evidence...And about how we shouldn't just take things on face value....But maybe that is just me, and my interpretation.

I do think its a shame we are introduced to books as things like A level texts, before we really have the skills or knowledge to understand them. A Passage to India and A room with a view are fantastic books to read as an adult, and they make a lot more sense, than they did when I was 17, and you have to remember I'm an August birthday so did my A levels just before my 18th birthday.

I guess intrigue and whispers were things that were common in the Tudor period. I really enjoyed both the programmes about Anne Boleyn and Thomas Cromwell. Really gave a different perspective on them I thought.

I had an inspired teachers for English and as I was in the advanced stream I read The Canterbury Tales, Beowulf and some of Shakespeare's tragedies as well as some wonderful modern poetry. Very blessed. I read Passage to India when I was 15 (for English) and some George Eliot and Jane Austen as well as some American writers. Don't like Victorian literature at all. Too verbose for me. Having said that I love Thomas Hardy and the Romantic Poets. Just started re-reading T S Eliot's FOUR QUARTETS. Thought I'd give him another chance as didn't like THE WASTELAND much.

Hope everyone has had a great Bank Holiday. We've been to the Garden centre - bought more compost and more plants - need to do my patio so I have some colour now that the tulips are gone.

Just finished watching the Nadal match. Think ITV has done a great job with the commentating. Really interesting matches - and they are showing some people I never heard of. Wish Laura Robson had won. She just didn't seem to have her mind on the game at times.

Anyway, no news from our favourite Aussie?

See you all tomorrow.

morning....I don't think there is any more news...unfortunately.

w had a wonderful weekend with beautiful weather, only trouble is ...it looks like rain today. Watched the Fall, and the Thomas Cromwell programme last night. Its so interesting to see how history can be reinvestigated. And also how Essex has always been downmarket !!!!!!

Hi all

Just a quick missive before I hit the hay . Glad to hear that we all seem to have had a good weekend. We finished off yesterday by going to a barbecue in the village where we used to live Met some people I hadn't seen for a while and also managed to catch the Flower Festival in the local church. I do love flower arrangements. Anyone with a long memory may remember that one of the first things I did after I allegedly 'retired' was to make a Christmas decoration with holly and wild greenery....sort of similar, I guess.
We are off to Paris for four days soon so I have downloaded the Paris metro map to my iPad and have been studying it intently. We have a very busy day the day we get there (by Eurostar). We've been invited out to dinner by some French friends so it'll be a quick turn around in the hotel and then a journey of over an hour to their house on the edge of the city. I don't think I'll be doing much the next day. Oh wait.....our Canadian friends are arriving then. Why is it always all or nothing?

Anyway best get some rest. Work again tomorrow.

Sleep tight all

Morning all.

Download a bus map Lindy. The buses are really easy to use and you don't have so many steps to walk up and down. We found them really easy and convenient to use. You can get discounted tickets or the stops tell you in English how much you need to pay for single trips. Taxis are also pretty convenient but if you are staying in the Latin Quarter (5th) you can walk to Notre Dame, the Cluny Museum, the Concergiere and St Chapelle. Only about a 5 to 10 minute walk.I wish I was back in Paris, I so enjoyed it.

Morning again.

I will be sending those of us who are meeting on Saturday a PM just to remind you all.

I am so glad England won the test series - from the highlights show it did seem England swamped NZ. I am surprised though that test series have been decreased to the best of three. Thought it was best of five matches. What do I know?

Looks like more rain today. Went out to lunch with a friend yesterday and someone splashed us. I was so wet I had to change when I got home. Really annoyed as he was going too fast and he was turning into the pub car park.

No news of John? Hopefully it won't be long before we do hear something.

Have a good day everyone.

oh lindy that sounds lovely.. I love flowers , Ive started to try and keep a bunch of flowers on my kitchen window....so far mostly from the garden, but I had to buy a bunch yesterday. They really cheer the kitchen up.

It took me ages to find a spot to put them though. In the living room, if I put flowers on the coffee table, we cant see through them to watch TV...They look pretty in the fireplace, but not if we need to light it....

it was a long time ago that you were meant to retire Lindy

Georgy I have a wonderful mental image now of you trying different hats on..... I love hats of any kind, but my family usually laugh when I try them on...I love ones with enormous brims especially in summer, but I spose they don't go with everything....

Its pouring again here.....I know the flowers and crops need it......but...do they need quite so much??
