Or my personal favourite:

I'm a little teapot
Short and stout
Here's my handle
Here's my spout
When I get my steam up
Hear me shout!
Tip me up
And pour me out

Somehow I always feel a personal connection to this one....

Or a nice gentle one for nyannie:

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream..........

Watching 60yrs anniversary from Westminster Abbey yesterday made me wonder if anyone on here can remember the day. I was a little kid at junior school, I remember bringing home my coronation mug that we were all given. Dad had brought home a comemerative teapot that played God Save The Queen and a surprise TV set (a Murphy) It was a really happy family day, neighbours from the next two houses came in to watch the proceedings. We all sat round mesmerized by this little black and white picture. The lady from next door brought a brilliant sponge cake she had made from one of those round cake tins with a hole in the centre to represent the crown. It was decorated with butter icing and little coloured jelly pastilles to represent the jewels. another friend brought shortbread she had made in the shape of crowns and a homemade savory flan . In the evening some more friends came round and we all settled down to watch the highlights and the fireworks.

Good morning, another lovely sunny day hooray!!

I won't sing as you'll all regret it.

Sending lots of good wishes nyannie's way, keep resting those feet. Watch some tennis (I could have cried yesterday, Federer just looked out of sorts), read a book or soak up some sun.

Re Federer, I was watching the highlights late last night and Jim Courier was saying that Roger has set his sights on competing at the Olympics in Rio, so he's not planning to give up tennis just yet. That thought brightened my day.

I find it really hard to get into Womens tennis now. I watched some of the Serena Williams match. It's just slug the ball as hard as you can and grunt as loud as possible.

Is it only me that misses the grace of Chris Evert, Evonne Goolagong et al?

What wonderful memories diane Thanks for sharing such a vivid account of the day

I must be just a couple of years younger than you, because I can just remember that there was a fuss going on about something, and being shown the black and white TV on which something important had been watched.....a bit nebulous, that!

What I do remember is the street party and parade. There is a photo of me dressed as a little jockey (for some reason). I think fancy dress was all the rage.

Wish I could remember more, but it's just outside my reach. I just knew that everyone was very happy about something

I was sorry to read you had a difficult day yesterday Nyannie and hope you are feeling more comfortable this morning.
Perhaps you will watch the tennis while your resting.I think Federer is playing today, lets hope he has a good game and gets through. It would be nice to see him win the title. I watched some highlights last night and seen the unexpected win of a French player I can't recall his name, I hope I am correct saying he was French. Diane

No, it's not just you Lena. I think something has been lost from the women's game. No point in trying to play the men at their own game, as it were. We have our own grace and athleticism .......well, some people do, not me!

Good morning diane, how's South Ayrshire this morning?
What a very busy life you've had, definately time to kick back and enjoy some time for yourself.

Amazing memories of such a special day. Do you still have your coronation mug? I wonder if children will be given a mug when the next coronation comes around, I hope so.

I'm afraid I don't remember the coronation, but I remember Princess Ann's wedding when we went to a friends house to watch on their colour tv. It was my first real experience of the amazing pageantry that we enjoy in this country.

Saw a little of the coverage yesterday, thought the Queen looked very well. The Duke is looking very frail these days, he has always been a constant by her side. I remember thinking how strange it seemed to see the Queen alone last year during the jubilee celebrations when he was ill.

Not a huge fan of Camilla, but she wears some stunning hats. and Kate looked stunning as usual.

Anymore news from John? Nothing on twitter?

Lovely day in Ayrshire, just been watching baby Eider ducks swimming in the sea with their mothers t
they are so tiny the sad thing is so many of them get eaten by the gulls ,nature can be so cruel.

Not a fan of the Charles/Camilla situation. Its not that I'm against remarriage at all, but in their case I feel Diana had such a raw deal and was used for one reason .

I wonder if John still has his two dogs . Am I correct in saying he had two.

Afternoon all. Many thanks for your good wishes. They have made me feel much better.

Georgy - I too had an altercation with private health provider. We have to go through a 'case manager' who has been subcontracted by the company. Anyway, he had to get 'authorization' from the insurance company to approve my private consultation. When I asked why he was actually involved he couldn't answer. Needless to say I have written a letter to my husband's MD asking why we are paying for coverage we have to spend 20 minutes - and altercations - to get. Waste of money.

I am watching the tennis too. Nothing much else to do having to put my feet up.

I don't remember the Coronation at all although I did watch the service yesterday. Beautiful except for that last piece of music by Walton which I didn't care for.

I do however, remember where I was when JFK was elected and when he was assassinated.

I'm not sure about the number of dogs John had. I thought one might have been his mother's.

I agree with you about Charles/Camilla. I really hope he sticks to his promise that she won't be queen.

Lovely day here too, but I can't hobble out - have to keep my foot elevated!

you seem happy today....

I love this little poem as well....it has a real feel good factor.....and its a beautiful sunny day here as well

im going to have to go out and water the garden in an hour or so.....

nyannie how are your feet and enforced rest and relaxation working out? Hope you end up feeling better in a few days.

Its so miserable being ill or under the weather. Can you sit in the garden and sketch or just and watch birds etc?

I finished an absolutely amazing ring....its real sparkly bling...with a massive orangey red stone......(cubic zircona of some description) I don't think Ill ever wear it....but it just looks like the archetypal ''ring'' with a big stone on a band. The idea is if I practice on a bigger stone, I will learn how to fasten a stone onto a ring, and then can learn how to make a smaller one, when I know the technique better.

I had a gap.....where a tooth had lost its crown and fallen out years ago....so I was meant to have a bridge fitted across the gap, but ....when the bridge came back, there was a tiny silver section that hadn't been covered over with the white veneer...So my dentist and I decided it needed to be sent back......

and fitted next week.......

Once this bridge is done, then Im going to probably have an implant in the other side of my mouth...Its like a screw fitting drilled into my gum, then a tooth will be attatched into the fitting when the implant has settled down.

I had the choice of this, or another bridge or a denture...The bridge I was worried about, cos as all my teeth are dreadful, I was worried that another bridge would damage the strength of my surrounding teeth.

And I don't think I could cope with a denture......The back of my mouth is fairly narrow...and I almost gag cleaning my teeth..and im scared a denture would irritate me....cos I would constantly be aware it was there.....

Like when I was pregnant, I couldn't bear anything tight around my waist...and I cant wear headbands..cos they give me a headache.....

I just wish it wasn't going to cost so much to fix.. unfortunately .our health insurance doesn't cover specific work on teeth, it covers extracting teeth and painful teeth....but not actually fixing them.......and im not an NHS patient...

As an NHS patient, I think my only option would be dentures of some kind though.....

Hope the foot problem can get sorted Nyannie - sounds so painful, and it must stop you doing things you like.

And this thread is responsible for me arranging my check up with the dentist - months overdue - and it's not even that I'm nervous - just put things off now and then! So thank you threadlings. Oh and thanks to John, of course, for inspiring the thread. (see what I did then to pretend we're always on topic )

Now can someone please inspire me to make a hair appointment? - much scarier than the dentist...

I remember the Coronation - one of the best days of my life. I was 11 years old and I was sat with thousands of other school children on the Embankment. I was enthralled from start to finish - and I still have my cup saucer and plate that we were all given. I cannot believe it was 60 years ago as surely I am not THAT old

Afternoon all.

How are we all? Lovely sunshine. Still resting my feet - now bad one feels like it is burning and I can't tell if injected foot is any better.

Have been going through files and watching some of the tennis. Have turned off the Sharapova match - too much grunting! Really ruins things for me.

Well, back to the tennis. Hopefully see you all tomorrow.

You were lucky getting cup, saucer and plate we only had a mug which I still have, I sort of remember we also had a little booklet about the event but I cant just be sure. There was so much happiness and community love about everyone felt like one big happy family, it was very special.

John would have enjoyed a day like that ,he's very patriotic

I'm off to watch four in a bed on channel 4. If you've never seen it it's not what you would expect from the name. I enjoy it because of the work I did.

Ive seen it....its a B+ B competition isn't it.....I enjoyed it when ive watched it.

Evening all....

sad news , my beloved ancient Fiesta is not well.....It started making a horrendous grinding engine noise today...and the garage reckons its not worth fixing....

Cars are lovely when they work...but not so lovely when they don't. And as I need the car to get to work, its going to have to be replaced fairly swiftly....

how is your foot Nyannie?

Sad to say, I watch Four in a Bed too. Some of the owners really are bitchy to say the least - and looking at some of the places, I wouldn't want to stay in some of them.

We love to stay in B&Bs but I always stay in ones recommended by the Tourist Board. We stayed in a great place in Newark. The owner was terrific and very helpful.
