Nyannie, I think that Brown has a Jamaican father and a German mother - sorry! He registered to play as a Jamaican but switched to German nationality as he said there was little support from Jamaica. For example, I read that for years he didn't have a coach, and drove himself around Europe in a camper van for tournaments! I noticed he had a coach today though, so hopefully things have looked up for him

Good luck with your appointment tomorrow

So it's being dubbed "Black Wednesday" at Wimbledon.

Tsonga has also retired making that seven withdrawals in one day, the highest ever number in all four major tournaments.

Yes, you're rigjht Lindy.

His parents bought him the campervan to save on travel and hotel expenses.

I loved the commentators during the match as they tried to put a name to some of his unbelievable shots.

The Confederations Cup match ended Italy 4 Japan 3, one of the most thrilling matches I've ever seen.
We had it all.....blatent penalties not given, penalty that shouldn't have been (the ball hit the defenders leg, bounced and hit his arm which was behind his body) , balls bouncing off woodwork, goal disallowed.....
I was exhausted by the end of it and that finished way after midnight too.

Wimbledon update: Sharipova has been beaten and is not happy about the courts.

Am taking sneaky peeks at the Murray / Lu match which I (obviously) want Murray to win

Do wish he's lighten up a bit though. You can feel the pressure he's under, though he claims to be dealing with it. It must take the enjoyment out of it for him

Oh, I'm sorry I missed that. Sounds like I'd have been jumping up and down and shouting at the screen!

And another top seed bites the dust! I like it really, it makes it a more open competition. Do hope they don't have a point when they're complaining about the state of the courts, though - what are they saying could / should have been done differently?

Don't talk to me about the bliddy red button!!!

Was watching the Hewitt/Brown match on BBC1 then switched to red button because the news came on.
Thoroughly enjoying the match, 3rd set tie break, first point played......and then they stick a scoreboard over the picture and announce this match is now on BBC1!!!!

Talk about shocking timing, they seriously need to sort themselves out.

Sorrry had to pinch nearly ALL your smilies to vent my feelings.
Me and the BBC are no longer friends
i missed the whole of the third set
due to the red button not working
stupid bl88dy thing

but i can,t believe, they did that in the tie break

The guy has never made much money out of tennis, nor been famous (until now). You really felt he was playing for the love of the game. Great stuff !!

I know!! I am still in shock

And beaten by someone else I'll have to look up and find out about It's all very exciting, really, I think

Sorry to say, more exciting than the football tonight, which apparently has been like watching paint dry (according to Hansen )

Morning all.

Surprised I don't have a headache after all the champagne, but I did drink gallons of water when I left.

How are we all?

I've put a couple of bottles of fizz in the thread fridge and a few sandwiches so help yourselves.

Friends coming for the weekend so today is big cleaning day. Having my hair done on Friday so I won't look like an old crone. Then a further clean-up. I love having friends come to stay but it is always so much work!!!!

See you all later

I hope you have a lovely weekend,......thank you for the lovely sandwiches and fizz........

cleaning is .........boring.........I did that today in the gap between getting in, grabbing some tea....and dashing out again, I try to have some kind of routine....weds is bathrooms day.......at least that stops everything ending up needed to be done on the same day...

Ive come in and am starting to dye my hair...I hate the grey bits.......but it is a bit late...!!!!!! maybe I can catch up on the tennis, while it dries....??

see you all tomorrow....

Morning all!!!!

What a shocking day! I wonder if there is a bug going around.

I cannot believe Federer lost. I really hope he retires before he goes out again. What with Nadal, Hewitt and now Federer, the tournament has lost its gloss. I'm not bothered now who wins - really hope it is some unknown!

Morning from me

Got to work today but should be back about 5 so am hoping to catch some more great tennis!

It's sad when someone you support goes out - I know all about that! - but in sporting terms I think it's great the way the draw has opened up. Gives everyone more of a chance and hopefully we will see some great matches in the next few days

Have a good day everyone and good luck nyannie xx

Afternoon all!

Just saw the consultant and have to have an MRI and possibly surgery to fix the tendon. I remember the last time I couldn't weight bear and I sunk into deep - and I do mean - deep depression.

In any case I will have to wear a brace on holiday.

Watching a chick-flick - cannot bear to watch Wimbledon now that Federer, Tsonga and Cilic and Nadal out. . .

Well I think after yesterday I'm completely shell shocked.

Like you nyannie, I was very sad to see Roger Federer go out. He looked devastated.
If someone had told me that we'd have Wimbledon without Federer or Nadal in the second week I'd have laughed out loud.

Roger did say a little while back that he'd set his sights on competing in Rio Olympics. I don't think we should right him off just yet.

With all the injuries being sustained and shock results I'm beginning to wonder whether they're all playing far too many tournaments. They seem to play all year round with barely a break.
I saw an interview recently with Lleyton Hewitt, who said if he'd realised what a toll it would take on his body he'd have competed in fewer tournaments when he was younger.

I spoke to my sis yesterday who's a huge Murray fan, and I said this is the best chance he'll ever have of winning Wimbledon. "He's got to beat Djokovic yet," she replied.
Well the way the Championship's going so far, who's to say he'll still be there?

I shall look forward now to watching the giant killers, I can't wait to see Dustin Brown play again. He brought the biggest smile to my face yesterday.

Today, my second favourite aussie has announced his retirement from F1 at the end of the season.
Mark Webber will be sorely missed. A top driver who's not afraid to tell it like it is, and who has the respect of the grid with the exception of his obnoxious team mate.

I understand Kimi Raikkonen is a possibility for his seat....now that will be worth watching.
A repeat of Malaysia would I suggest end in a very different way.

Boris Becker about Federer on the BBC website. He comments that Federer took eight weeks off earlier this year, and then played as follows before Wimbledon:

"You cannot question the decision-making of Federer, but he was out for a long time and then came back in Madrid and lost in the first round. He reached the final at Rome, got to the quarters at the French and then won in Halle so that looked all good. But losing today was definitely not on the agenda, and he will have to digest that now".

So maybe not quite such a shock that he lost yesterday? Food for thought, anyway........

They do seem to be playing quite a few matches, over the year.....has it always been quite so busy? Or is this just a relatively recent thing?

it does seem an amazing year for so many people to have lost in quick succession.....

can we blame it on anything else? We don't have anyone suspicious around do we?

Im suffering from some kind of summer cold.....my ears are all blocked up, I m blaming the weather, I always tend to get a cold when the weather changes......so this year its been almost constant. Its horrid , im all headachey and feeling giddy... But at least the reports are all written now.

I'm starting to plan the summer break and think where I can go and what I can do. Is anything good happening? Any good exhibitions or days out ?

Sorry to hear you have a cold Augusta, hope it stays just that and doesn't turn into anything nastier

I too am starting to think about things to do in August......but for the moment, there is so much sport to occupy me, I can't think when I'd fit things in... There's Wimbledon of course, and the Athletics Grand Prix in Birmingham on Sunday (BBC1 2pm to 5pm), to name but two. Plus the usual activities of life, eg tomorrow I'm running a stand at our local FE college, promoting courses for young carers......there's always something else to do

Daughter no 2 is at Glastonbury I waved her off at 3am on Wednesday morning / night, weighed down with backpack, wellies, and cereal bars and had the most strange feeling, almost as though I could touch my own youth And that doesn't happen very often these days, I can tell you!

I think I must need some rest or I'll start to hallucinate

So it's goodnight JJAT, sleep well all
