Hello everyone hope things are ok with you all. Sorry that some of you are taking the unexpected departure of top tennis players so hard.I understand that after looking forward to the event and then that happens in the first week it does take the icing off the cake big time.

I was driving home yesterday and walking down the middle of the road was an Eider Duck with her two tiny ducklings I tried to get them to the side for safety and left them to continue on their way .I turned and went up and down the road a few times passing them to see if they continued on their journey then I phoned the wild life sanctuary for advice as I knew they would be trying to reach the coast and that was a good two miles away the other side of town. She said the mother duck would find the direction but it was concerning they were heading for a built up area , they could come and try to catch the babies but then the mother would fly off so she decided it better to let them carry on their way as nesting about two miles from the shore was normal for them .She felt that as they have big families as a rule 8 - 10 ducklings some of them may have been lost already as the mother is unable to protect them all from danger. This is the sad thing about nature we want to help but are unable to do so.

Must remember this is John's appreciation thread, I wonder if he is watching Big Brother.

Hi Diane

That is so interesting about the ducks. We used to live by a river and we had a mallard and his mate come up to our window where we used to feed them bread. One year they brought their ducklings up to the window. The next year we didn't see them and thought something had happened. Nature is beautiful but it can be very very cruel.

I think John would have helped the ducklings - he has a very sweet nature I think.

Rain coming again and it is very very very humid. Glad I'm indoors!!!!

Have a lovely evening everyone.

nature is beautiful but cruel............Did you see that there is some success with the campaigns to help bees survive before they all die out?

Its a good sign, but the weather this year must have been brutal for loads of wildlife out there...

We live near a swan feeding station on the River...and the swans are so numerous they take over and stop the cars going past on the road, while they cross from one side to another. Its so funny to watch the cars waiting for them as they stroll across the road. They are beautiful in the river, but quite ferocious at times on the banks..

I hope Glastonbury is good this year. Part of me has always wanted to do the festival thing....but....I don't do bad weather or nasty toilets.....I might have done years ago...but now....Im not sure. I would like to see the bands and soak up the atmosphere, but not...the camping.
It was this sort of time last year OH went to the Isle of wight festival and got thoroughly soaked. I was an experience, but not perhaps one he wants to repeat......

Well......where is everyone?

Watching tennis maybe? I caught some of Laura Robson's match, boy did she leave it late before coming through in the third! Good to hear the crowd right behind her

Off for dinner now, may even have a drink in the garden. Could it be summer?

Anyone see the Rolling Stones from Glastonbury tonight? I thought they were great

Wonder whether Mick Jagger has a Volterol rub when he goes off? I reckon they're pretty good for pensioners - I really enjoyed it, and they seemed to as well I was quite touched when they all took a bow together at the end

Time for a quiet read now...

Afternoon all!

Just saw the consultant and have to have an MRI and possibly surgery to fix the tendon. I remember the last time I couldn't weight bear and I sunk into deep - and I do mean - deep depression.

In any case I will have to wear a brace on holiday.

Watching a chick-flick - cannot bear to watch Wimbledon now that Federer, Tsonga and Cilic and Nadal out. . .
oh nyannie
this is not sounding good, will you have to wait long for the
scan. Sending good wishes

it has been a very strange Wimbledon,
going into the second week, and i don,t know half of the players, but at least Murray and Robson are still there

They do seem to be playing quite a few matches, over the year.....has it always been quite so busy? Or is this just a relatively recent thing?

it does seem an amazing year for so many people to have lost in quick succession.....

can we blame it on anything else? We don't have anyone suspicious around do we?

Im suffering from some kind of summer cold.....my ears are all blocked up, I m blaming the weather, I always tend to get a cold when the weather changes......so this year its been almost constant. Its horrid , im all headachey and feeling giddy... But at least the reports are all written now.

I'm starting to plan the summer break and think where I can go and what I can do. Is anything good happening? Any good exhibitions or days out ?
Do blame the weather,
never know what we are going to get,
from one morning to the next,
hope you are feeling better now
The lovely summer break,
let me know what you find
i've got to try and keep my youngest busy

I think we are going to go out for a drive and coffee this afternoon,

Hope you sort out your issues with the awkward family member....

Hi everyone hope you all had a good weekend.

Yes I did watch the stones last night ,amazing and as the full set lasted over two hours we only seen ten of the songs but they were speaking about it on radio today and said in total they sang twenty songs and were not allowed to film the whole thing as that was special for those there in person, its incredible Jagger can still do a set that long because he moves the whole time with moves of a much younger man, you have to admire them. I have never seen them in person.

Did anyone watch" the cube" tonight ? Johns friend JJ was there supporting his friend Lewis the olympic medalist for gymnastics who won strictly come dancing last year , he went away with £50,000. JJ was giving advice when asked because he had done it himself in the past , I think I'm right in saying it was before he went in big brother.

I LOVED the Stones! They give me hope for eternal youth. Love Kenny Rogers but his voice really isn't what it was!

Don't watch the cube, but you are right about JJ.

Good to see you. How are things?

Can't speak for anyone else but I like sunny weather as long as it isn't too hot - just can't cope when it is warmer than 25/26 degrees.

Hi to all, hope you're all enjoying the sunny weather.
O/h had a few days off work last week so we enjoyed some much needed 'down' time.
He went back to work today, so I've been catching up with house things.
He starts his four day weeks today, so it's long weekends every week from now.

Weaned myself off the laptop for a few days but can't last any longer.

I have a lot to catch up on, been watching Murray as I wander past tv. Sis keeps texting - she's having the usual heart failure she always suffers whilst watching him.

What a heck of a Wimbledon this is turning out to be - Serena Williams OUT!

Morning all.

By my reckoning only about 10 days before John graces the UK with his presence. Wonder if we will get news of him.

I couldn't believe Serena is out. She just seemed to have lost her fizz. Best match for me was Tomic/Berdych although I am getting really fed up with the BBC changing channels to fit in other matches they think more important!!!

Knee getting better but I am completely fed up with the constant feet problems.

Hope everyone is keeping well and cool.

I know the feeling nyannie! The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.......

Glad your knee's getting better. Keep on doing whatever you're doing......

I'm afraid I'll miss most of the tennis today, as am working Still, I've caught quite a bit so far.

Enjoy your day all
