Morning. Trying to get some housework done before it gets too hot.
Really fed up with the heat. Haven't been able to get a decent night's sleep in ages. Keep cool everyone. . . and Lindy, STOP working til all hours - it isn't good for you. Where is georgy? Hope she hasn't melted in this heat. ![]() I'm the opposite way round, I can't cope with the cold and sunless days. I thrive in the sunshine but know I'm fortunate as we always get at least a little breeze when the tide turns. ![]() We have the landing window open at the back and the bedroom windows open at the front which gets the air flowing through the upstairs in the evening. Boiling up there at the moment though as the sun is full on the front of the house till around 7pm. I must admit I'm not even attempting the ironing till it's dark! Hope you're all taking care of yourselves in the heat though, keep up the fluids.

Hi everyone
![]() The heat seems to be the topic of the day. I too find it very difficult and have just ordered two fans from Amazon....one for the sitting room, one for my office upstairs. Hope they will make at least some difference ![]() Can't imagine watching On Demand at the moment.....I just want to sit outside with a cool drink Still, maybe in the winter we'll find it useful. Speaking of which, I have also signed up for BT Sport (free for a year) .....I seem to be wanting to get organised! ![]() The SATS tests sound awful Augusta. I remember being told at some point by a well- meaning teacher that our daughter (then primary school age) was level 2 - 3 "and was fine". It look us a year or two to realise that level 4 or 5 would have been more appropriate (then), and that she needed a bit of help. So even apparently useful information isn't always that useful...... ![]() Ironing?? What's that? I really can't be doing with it in this weather I'm afraid Though hubby will be running out of work shirts soon if I'm not careful........![]() Anyway I'm off to get that cool drink. Keep well everyone, keep up the fluids and enjoy the weather if you can

Morning all!
Greetings from 'Molehill central'. Windows on sunny side of the house have the shades drawn and windows closed. The exercise will be repeated in about an hour on other side of the street. I am drinking so much water I feel like a reservoir! Seeing consultant this afternoon and much as I want to save money, I cannot get public transport - so very expensive taxi has been booked. Test at Lords begins today - wonder how the Brits will do in all this heat!!! Well, must wash the floors so I will go - see you later - and keep cool!!! |

Somehow I feel a bit 'in limbo', just waiting for cooler weather. I could enjoy it if i were on holiday, but when there's work to be done, it's another thing entirely......Hope everyone's okay ![]() Are you out there somewhere, Georgy? Hope you and your family are okay xx |

I too hope everyone is OK. I am worried about georgy though.
I have a torn tendon with lots of inflammation and fluid around it. I now have to wear a brace for any substantial amount of walking. Not looking forward to it. It is either that or an operation!!!! FED UP!!!!!! Hope the weather breaks soon - at least go down to the mid 20s. Don't know how much more of this 30 degree heat I can stand. Have a nice evening. |

And its so hard to assess kids accurately, as what might be a good effort and good standard for one child, might not actually be the right one for another..... ![]() And to me there was a massive gap between primary school, where the school did almost know my daughter...and secondary, where the oldest was too quiet and shy, and kept getting overlooked....(even to the extent of being taken from the top sets and put in the lower sets, until I made a massive fuss, and got a very unhappy child moved back, after a parents evening where a staff member asked why on earth she was in the lower sets when her work overall was so high!!!, ) The problem had come from her maths, where she had been taught by 3 years worth of supply teachers, and lost any confidence, so she was deemed low ability, as she had stopped working and learning anything in maths. ![]() ![]() any interesting news today? Any John sightings yet? Both our daughters were quiet at school, and I felt were overlooked, especially at secondary school The teachers couldn't do everything, and seemed to end up by concentrating either on those with particular needs, or the very bright ones. If you were somewhere in the middle, and no trouble to anyone, it quite literally seemed that no-one knew your name I found it especially sad because, by contrast, I had loved my schooldays ![]() Ah well, all done and dusted for them now, and they've turned out okay I think, but I still think our education system is just that......too systematic and not sufficiently personal ! Sorry to hear about your ankle nyannie, but glad you may not have to have an operation ![]() Anyway, the house has cooled down a bit now so I need to get some rest while I can ![]() Sleep tight JJAT :sleep::sleep: Lindy x |

Morning all.
See you are still burning the midnight oil Lindy - don't know how you do it. Well, I've been up since 5 - done some ironing, watered the pot plants, made the beds and vacuumed the sitting room. Need to strip the beds but o/h still sleeping so will wait a while. Not good news from consultant I'm afraid. I have to wear a brace to protect the tendon from rupturing - I will really look great on holiday. If that doesn't help, have to have an op - last time I had one I couldn't weight bear and I was almost suicidal from not being able to do things. Really fed up with getting old and my hypermobility!!!!!! |

its been a week of running around sorting everything out...just 3 more days at work, till the summer holidays...
I cant wait, I have so many plans for this holiday, and most involve the excitement of housework!!! with this cold there has been so much I've been leaving, and hopefully this summer, I will get a massive chance for a clear out. Both me and my OH are massive hoarders, and we have amassed so much junk/useful stuff. When the cupboards are full, I think its time for drastic measures!!! This heat is draining, but just think of my daughters away at latitude , in this heat, I hope they don't get heatstroke and melt. Im finding the best things to wear are things like maxi dresses, long and loose and cool......how is everyone else coping? |

I did loads when I 'retired' last year and the junk is already building up again . And as for 'non-urgent' paperwork ...well I find if you leave it long enough, it either becomes totally irrelevant....or really urgent ![]() Speaking of which, yes, I agree, maxi dresses are great. Also I tend not to wear shoes unless I have to (a la Clegg!) I'm moving even more slowly than usual, pacing myself and also having the occasional ice cream. The Italians didn't invent gelato for nothing ![]() Cheers everyone xx |

Morning all. Just been through the routine of opening doors, pulling down shades.
Glad to see you back georgy, I for one was getting very worried. Where is your aunt from in the States? augusta - I am not coping at all well in the heat. I am always tired and grumpy and getting fed up not being able to go outside. We did go out for a curry last night (air conditioned) - and I was falling asleep over my meal. I will watch the cricket highlights. The team are doing so well. Couldn't believe the bowling attack! Sorry to hear about your daughter Lindy - no fun in this heat. Hope she is back to normal Bought the insurance for our holiday and I am going to start to tackle my tax return later. Hope everyone keeps cool - and remember to drink lots of water. |

Hi all
![]() Been out most of the day, first of all to an outdoor production of Taming of the Shrew by the Globe Theatre touring company. Lovely occasion but the play is really not my thing......I found it quite offensive in parts Anyway we were very lucky that it was a bit cooler today, and also that our seats just happened to be in shade. Phew! That was a relief We were with a group, one of whom had actually fainted - gone out cold - while queuing for something in town yesterday. She was sporting a black eye and other bruises - brave lady though, she stepped out again today ![]() Then on with the group to a pre-booked meal - gazpacho soup, salmon en croute and strawberry pavlova. Yum! ![]() Back home now to find a note from daughter, who will be bringing two friends back with her later tonight. Despite myself, found myself rushing around emptying bins and making beds at 11pm ![]() Now off to bed after a long day. Sleep well JJAT xx :sleep::sleep: |

Afternoon all.
An England win looks good - if only they can get the remaining wickets. Really want it to finish today as it is going to be hot, hot, hot tomorrow. Just made some limeade - very refreshing. We have lamb slow cooking and have to have the door closed as it SMELLS!!!! Reading Sovereign, the next book after DARK FIRE which we read last year. Very very good. Also have Rembrandt's Eye by Simon Schama on the list for the summer - and Romola by George Eliot. Need something very light. Well, hope everyone is having a lovely day. |
